Senate President, Bukola Saraki, on Tuesday revealed that the Senate has started the process of amending the Constitution to allow for the creation of state and community Police.

Saraki made the revelation via his verified Twitter handle, while details were provided on the Medium page of the Senate President.

He also listed the key actions the Nigerian Senate is currently focusing:

1)Constitutional amendment for State and community police.

2)Passage of police reform Bill.

3)Confirmation of new police service commission members

4)Consideration of security summit report.

5)Constitutional review as it relates to role of national security agencies coordination

These cameras helped to identify Offa Bank Robbery suspects that has the police investigating the links the Senate President might or might not have to those arrested instead of what happened here.

State police is a step in the right direction. It is one of de centralizing power. People are better secured when they protect themselves than when someone is hired to do so.

just re-introduce peace cops bill and make sure it get ascented to this time. peace cops will be co-sponsors by UN and nigeria government which will make them perform well more like military.

State police is the way to go. Laws can be put in place to prevent governors from high jacking it for their political wimps. However the benefits of state police far outweighs the percieved the demerits of it.

State police I can understand but Community police no way! If you know the type of rubbish all these community touts who call themselves community youth do to people’s lives, business and properties in Delta State, especially Warri and it’s environ eh! Giving them legal power in form of police, that means Jesus Christ has already come down from above, took his righteous people away.

When I was in Nigeria, my sister, a lady, was asked to sit down on the road, because she wore a camo trousers. But, here its common thing to wear it. I rarely see military officers self.
