Mr Shehu should stop boasting...and for once be honest. Nigeria needs billions of US dollars to fix power. Most of thise billions are going to come from our pockets. It does not win elections, but it is honesty.

Govt better find the $300bn ($900bn according to some experts) needed to fix light...and bills have to be raised. (Our foreign reserve is just under $45 billion, and was once at $60billion. You see the problem).

12000 MW is enough to just give Nigerians CURRENTLY CONNECTED TO THE GRID (Minus those who are not lgally connected to the gird) 10 hours of light daily.

I think it is a good idea we have an idea of the problem before we solve it. Truth is, since I was very young, I have always blamed government for not doing something about power....until my eyes were opened in 2014...during the DISCO process, and I saw that it was going to cost us lots to fix power.

South Africa has good power supply because

1.) They get part of their pwoer from nuclear energy...5000MW to be precise.

2.They have good maintenance culture.

3.They pay their bills.

4.They export power for revenue...to at least 6 other countries...who also pay bills.

We can get there...problem is, we need the investment , hence DISCOS and GENCOS.

2.Nigeria's problems have a lot to do with poor equipment, and poor generation capacity.

Anyway, according to Reuters, South Africa's energy company ESKOM says there won't be power cuts this year.

Slightly off topic...but for us to get to SA's 40000mw...we need hundreds of billions of dollars US .

My focus is on how we can get the money to get to that region, and for now...raising bills is the way forward...(we don't have $100billion needed to fix transmission alone)

Nigeria's electricity demand is a lil bit below 20,000mw, majority of SA's electricity is channelled to mining, mining alone takes about 3/4 of their electrical output, if not, a country like Egypt that produced 24,000mw has 24hrs power supply to almost 100m people and still have 8000mw as excess but same can not be said of SA with 40,000mw for 55m people. 3,000mw is enough for Lagos but Lagos is gunning for 4,000mw.

At most, Nigeria will need 30,000mw to meet demand and for industrialization and not 80,000mw.

Since the Aso Rock is given 24hr. supply and has no knowledge of the usage of power for industrial development. I recall during Abarcha looter regime the NEPA Union officials were said to have gone to him to complain about the need to release money to repair some of the faulty power stations but because Aso Rock is on 24hr supply he was said shouted on them " Quiariam you are all thieves no be light be this ok
go and give them N200m to go and chop thinking as light is on 24hr supply in Aso Rock so it is all over the country.
Similarly Babangida from his Aso Rock sleeping room in 1994 accused 11NEPA men of treason and jail them life whish was later reduced to 10 years for leading NEPA staff to go on strike over non payment of workers salary and the bad situation of power supplies in the country for his non releasing fund to repair many of the faulty power stations.
