Exactly. 1 month in advance makes sense. Even 3 months makes sense too. Government should not allow landlords to demand 1 year rent in advance, except for commercial properties.
But government should make it easier for landlords to eject a tenant. Government should also make mortgage loans easily accessible at affordable interest rate.
So did Fashola consider these points before his suggestion

One question to Fashola.

Have they paid for helicopters?

When will they be delivered.

Why were they given a payment deadlines
What other conditions e.g our engineers cannot open or service the engines/electronics

Have they paid or will they pay in arrears.

If those helicopters were still on sale at Onitsha International market the largest in Africa we would have gone there.
Problem? Yes.. What? Supply
Entrepreneurs take advantage of it and this happens with food, drink, footballers, transport medicines, whatever.
Housing is no different but because of the social value of housing government must subsidize but do so in a planned way and diiscourage urban migration to city slums .
Taking mob action against landlords by any subtle form of appropriating their assets or price control is antimarket.

The issue is housing supply. In Nigeria we need to build a lot of houses and we must also imrove the way we look after what we have
Government needs to look at our interest rates.Housing needs long term financing at low interest. I am talking 30 year loan at less than 5% guaranteed by government. That is how rich countries improve their housiing stock.

The other thing is the building code. There is areason why in some countries all the houses in an area are the same design. They are built by the same guys at the same time and often jointly funded. This makes it easier to register title to value and to sell and so houses change hands more often in some countries than do brand new cars in Nigeria.
Government must lead from the front on this one

Different product/service different market. In some bars you pay BEFORE you drink not after, each time every single drink. No time for counting bottles no arguments lower wage bill.

In which United States of America does the government build houses and give out? Big, fat lie. What the US government does is to provide easily accessible mortgage loans at low interest rate.

I guess he meant to say United Kingdom because the United States government will not lay a single brick for anybody.

The same way I will leave my house empty than to rent to the afonjas

You are absolutely right. Am talking out of experience. They will default in rent payment and worst of all they will spoil and deface the house. To get them out of the house, is a tug of war. Honestly am having it terribly bad over here. Why now Afonja? Why identify yourself in that manner? Mtcheewww.
