Honestly to people complaining about power in Nigeria, they don't know how much effort the federal goverent is making. When I was lucky to intern at NNPC a year ago I attended some conferences where I actually learned a lot of new things about the power situation in Nigeria.

If people don't pay their bills, there isn't going to be power. President Buhari's admin has already struck a deal with most of the discos on how they're going to provide bailout funds for them (to the gencos) because a lot of them are heavily in debt- partly due to the fact that Nigerians don't pay their bills. In my part of Lagos, a lot of the houses use prepaid meters and we have 18 hours of power EVERY DAY, believe it or not. The more interesting thing about this is that the power goes off at specific times. We actually know when exactly we're not going to have power and when we will- and it's always accurate with an error of 5 minutes (maximum). There was a time heavy rains made something stop working and we didn't have power for a whole day, we actually went to complain to their office and it was resolved within two days (which is quite long but impressive for Nigeria). I believe strongly that we have all these benefits because everyone pays their bills. And, in case you were wondering, this is somehwere in Ikorodu, Lagos. Its not a place where "the rich alone" live. PHCN was government-run so everyone could do whatever nonsense they wanted but these discos are here to make their profit and they can't do that if you don't pay your bills.

See let me tell you,
That is some part of Lagos. In my area for the past 2 days no light and we don't even no when it will come back.

The way they give us light is 1 week and some days to the day of disconnections after that na till the day they will share their bill. Nothing is wrong with wire, nothing is wrong with pole, nothing is wrong with transformer and nothing is wrong with their office. So tell me why we no come get light. The day they will bring the light just keep an eye on your time, cos the will take it at any given minute maybe even 2 minutes. Should I continue paying them for that?

For almost 1 year our transformer had issues, those guys never brought us bill and the never thought of fixing it. We contributed cash to fix it, they requested cash for them to approve the testing and installation. Just imagine.

Now they are suppose to balance the transformer to avoid it from crashing again but they are still waiting for us to come and beg them.

Over here if the high tension wire that was used to in light into a community is faulty, you will write a letter, you will pay some cash and after everything you will pay your bill.

This is becoming too lengthy. I will stop here
Just for get it this country is a waste!

The most annoying part now is that their marketers are now professional debt collectors grin

We don't have steady light somewhere around ojo area too and the terrible part is that just streets away we have those who are connected to the so called federal abi it's Agbara line, they have light almost everytime and they even bill us more than them (my parents home are on that line). They said our own is state line

When it gets to between 13th -20th they supply electricity steady, if there's a fault you won't see the marketer around, for like 2weeks there may not be light but they will ensure they repair it towards that their bill payment week. The man willl now come with his bald head and big Tommy and be going house to house for payment after they bring the light for 2days.

If you say you have not paid he will tell you to bring the money and the bill, the dude will go to the office pay it and return the bill back grin grin If you say you don't have now he will ask you when you will pay and it's certain you will see him knock if you have not paid by that time they are that desperate to meet their target.

The question still remains why should I pay for what I am not using at least those on the federal line are using the electricity, we don't have supply up to half of what they get so why should I pay an exorbitant bill. Meter they didn't supply. Na real wa.

They should just reset all our bills to #0.00, may be we will consider them for 2019. Person never chop you say make e pay bills, honestly what they can do is to share meters for pre paid, I tell you some people will use 1k light for one year.

If all infrastructures were well put together for the masses. Steady electricity, prepaid meters. That public begging won't be necessary.

I will tell u something. Some years ago. My town does not enjoy electricity well.

But when Nicholas ukachukwu built a factory in my town. I don't know where that man got his own electricity from. But it's from PHCN. But for some reasons best known to him, the factory was closed down, so my town tapped the light from his factory, I mean the high tension. Bros, for years, we can have uninterrupted power 2weeks on, ( I mean, it will not blink). Others days where it goes off might be as a result to heavy storm, fall of electric poles or minor repairs from the transformer. My question is this, how and where did Nichus company got the light from?

2ndly, as a student in unizik back in the days. There used to be epileptic power supply, but it was improved that see light for weeks without interruption ( that was in ifite Awka ). And I asked again, how was that possible?

In a Ago palace in Lagos, almost every house has its prepaid meters. As such no one begs u to pay up, if u don't pay, u won't see light. And if there is no light, IKEJA DC won't make profits from AGO PALACE axis. It is that simply.

Provide steady light, put prepaid meters in all homes, and u will be marveled that we don't consume much of electricity.

The govt started the waste, the masses only helped them to waste it well, who awoof no de sweet?

Now that is what they should have done all over naija. Install prepaid meters everywhere.

When they bought over the company from govt , they sure knew the responsibility ahead.

Those areas where there are prepaid meters will always enjoy electricity because if u don't give them light, u won't be paid and if u don't get paid, u won't be able to make profits and if u don't make profits, then why are u in the business?

It is simple.

Can u imagine mtn rolling out very poor network? That making calls will be hard, browning the internet will also be hard too. Do u think they will make enough sales? No.

Same should apply to DISCOs. We don't consume much, but we waste too much.

In my house in Awka, everyone living in the same yard( 16 flats) all of them use energy bulbs, once ur freezer is well blocked, u switch of, u don't switch on the fans when u don't need them, likewise AC, no one taught them how to manage power properly, they learnt it themselves because if not, na them go suffer am.

But come down to my town, and see 100 to 200 watts of bulbs will be switched on from morning till night. Why? because they don't feel the pain of paying for it.it there were meters, u will sure get value for what u paid for. And the excess power will go round.

Take electricity to everywhere, provide transformers , install prepaid meters all over. And u will see them smiling home with the profits they deserved.

In Awka, for 6 weeks now, I am still using 4000 I subscribed in a 2 bedroom flats , I think I still have up to 23 units.

But in my hometown obosi. I pay 12k per month. Have u seen why they don't want to install prepaid meters? because they make so much which is always un accounted for on estimated bills.

Bros, these people are not bankrupt, they are just greedy and wicked that's all.
