Stop been over patriotic dude; the Nigerian military and defense industry started making significant impart from early 2000, likewise other sectors. Following the fall of the Derg regime on May 28, 1991 through the arduous struggle, Ethiopians shifted their full attention to install peace, democracy and development. As a result, the nation enormously reduced its military expenditure for the sake of development and to get rid of poverty. Some examples of the existing Ethiopian defense industry capability are: Hibret Machine Tools: Produces medium weapons for the Ethiopian National Defense Force. Its civilian output includes hand tools, hospital beds, aluminum saddles, and household and office furniture. Gafat Armament Engineering Complex: Produces a wide range of infantry equipment that meet the requirement of the Ethiopian National Defense Force. Homicho Ammunition Engineering Complex: Produces a wide range of ammunition ranging from light weapons to heavy mortars and artillery. It also produces various metal products that are inputs to civil industries. Bishoftu Motorization Engineering Complex: production, Repair and overhaul center for heavy armament, tanks and military vehicles. Dejen Aviation Engineering Complex (DAVEC): Center for overhauling and upgrading military aircraft. Nazareth Canvas and Garment Factory: Produces and supplies military uniforms, canvas, leather and strap products to the Ethiopian National Defense Force. Metals & Engineering Corp., an Ethiopian military-run corporation, planned to partner with more foreign companies as it spearheaded a government-drive to develop industries in Africa’s second-most populous nation. MetEC is engaged in the design, manufacturing, upgrading and maintenance of different products and services of the defense industry including upgrading combat aircraft and helicopters, tanks, vehicles and weapons. METEC was established in June 2010 with 10 billion birr of capital by grouping nine businesses previously owned by the Defense Ministry, including Dejen Aviation Industry and Gafat Armament Industry, Six other industries, including plastic, tractor and vehicle spare-parts manufacturers, were transferred to METEC from the privatization agency and it now operates as many as 75 factories nationwide. The public manufacturing enterprises which are under the control of MetEC, include Dejen Aviation, Bishoftu Automotive and Locomotive, Hibret Machine Tools Engineering Complex, Homicho Ammunition Engineering Complex, Gafat Armament Engineering Complex, Power Engineering, Hitech Industry, Metal and Fabrication Industry, Adama Garment Industry, Ethiopia Plastic SC, and Nazareth Tractor Assembly Plant. By 2013 METEC, as it’s known, was working with companies including Alstom SA, Europe’s second-largest power-equipment maker, U.S.-based solar-panel manufacturer Spire Corp. (SPIR) and China Poly Group Corp. on engineering and manufacturing projects. Some of the company’s budding industries, like vehicle-assembly and engineering businesses, may generate more than 20 billion birr ($1.1 billion) of revenue a year. By 2013 MetEC – the misleadingly named Ethiopian Metal and Engineering Corporation - had come to dominate the Ethiopian economy in less than one year. It had its fingers in everything from the so-called Grand Renaissance Dam to arms factories, to a spanking new fertilizer factory, to ten sugar factories. It entrenched a patronage system that gave a larger stake to the military while guaranteeing the survival of the regime. Henry240: 2 Likes |

Continuation Aviation industry; the Ethiopian airways rank top best in Africa unfortunately for us; ours is said to be resourcitated in December, All thanks to the present Government and let's hope it happens Ethiopian Airlines is a wholly-government owned airlines and serves as the country’s flag carrier. Headquartered in Bole International Airport, Ethiopian Airlines is listed as second in the top ten safest airlines in Africa ranking. A proud member of the Star alliance since December, 2011, Ethiopian Airlines operates with a fleet of 42 passenger and 6 freighter planes and offers services to 62 international and 17 domestic destinations. In 2010, Ethiopian Airlines was named Africa’s most profitable airline by Air Transport World. Although Ethiopia’s flag carrier recently announced it is cutting cost so it can save up to one billion birr to ward of operational difficulties accruing from an increase in expenditure. It also announced record operating revenues registering a growth of 50.4%. The airline has 3 stars from a five-star ranking criteria by Skytrax. To even show how strong they are; they now operate in Nigeria. They have office in Lagod & Enugu; Ethiopian Airlines And British Airways Grab Largest Volume Of Nigeria's Air Traffic - Report, http://saharareporters.com/2018/01/31/ethiopian-airlines-and-british-airways-grab-largest-volume-nigerias-air-traffic-report. Don't forget that the 1st set of NAF pilots where trained in Ethiopia. They even have a maintenance facility that takes care of there commercial aircraft; Ethiopian MRO Services is a division of Ethiopian and is established in 1957 to provide MRO services for aircraft, engines and components of Ethiopian and third party customers. https://www.ethiopianairlines.com/corporate/group/mro/base-maintenance

More... Agriculture; Food drives the world; apart from clean water, access to adequate food is the primary concern for most people on earth. This makes agriculture one of the largest and most significant industries in the world; agricultural productivity is important not only for a country's balance of trade, but the security and health of its population as well. With that in mind, which countries produce the most agricultural products, which countries export the most, and what are countries around the world doing to increase their production levels? Countries like America, China, Germany, france and Brazil are top producer & exporter. In Africa it's Ethiopia, Cote d'Ivoire, Tanzania and tiny Rwanda. Where is Nigeria with our population who needs serious Agriculture. Thank God for the present government that has seen that agriculture is the way forward, now Nigeria is currently the largest rice producing country in Africa. Probably in few years we take over cocoa, coffee and palm oil. https://newtelegraphonline.com/2018/02/nigeria-among-16-top-rice-producers/ |

Nigeria still has some few upper hands over Ethiopia... I:e Top African Countries with the Biggest Economy/GDP Per Capita Nigeria rates number 1. https://howafrica.com/top-20-largest-economies-in-africa-2018-african-biggest-economy-so-far/?amp https://www.google.com/amp/s/answersafrica.com/largest-economies-africa.html/amp http://www.worldstopexports.com/top-african-export-countries/ All thanks to our oil/other oil products & mineral resources which holds 80%-90% of what we export. Exports of commodities (oil and natural gas) is the main factor behind Nigeria's growth and accounts for more than 91% of total exports. Sadly all these capital made from exporting are indirectly imputed into importation. |

How come another metrix or indices failed to pick up Nigeria´s innovative prowess ten years later but did tiny Rwanda? So every thing fell apart. You see when I talk I´m not surprised some of you cant undertsand cos your thought processes have been programmed that it is inacapable of critical independent thinking like the one telling us Ethiopia is better in all sectors than Nigeria of course because of what he reads online. bidexiii: Henry is an intelligent man. He is civilised. He is not patronizing like most of you here especially you. He is bold in his original thought and questions what beggars belief. But he doesnt speak for me. We dont even agree on a lot of things but we see eye to eye in sensible reasoning. Not so you whose brain can be turned whither wheresoever for lack of original thinking. That you didnt bother to ask what books i might be recommending tells already the average intellectual your disposition to pride and lack of knowledge thereof which is evident for all to see. I recommend you start reading in earnest to cure you of ignorance and help you with some common sense. The onus is on you to respond to his assertions that Nigeria is significantly ahead of Ethiopia. Thats the point of reference to Henry not measuring d.icks. Patriotism dont blind me to critical reasoning. I praise Nigeria and I also bash Nigeria all constructively. bidexiii: Your Level of ignorance is alarming. Nigeria, despite having a smaller land area hold almost twice the population of Ethiopia. On this small area of land we have highest farm out from several crops in Africa. It will be stupid to compare Nigeria's agricultural export with that of Ethiopia with far less population and larger landmark. Most of the food produced in Nigeria are consumed in Nigeria. A simple google search is enough to tell you Nigeria is the largest producer of several agricultural product in Africa. Some of these include: Yam Millet Rice Cassava Groundnuts Soybeans Melon Banana (one of the highest producer) Cocoa (one of the highest producer) Beans Sorghum Palm oil Groundnut oil Ginger Sweet potato Okra Peanut Seanut Cashew but Etc. Google is your friend bidexiii. You people should stop your ignorance. Largest exporter doesn't mean largest producer. There are more produce I can't remember. 1 Like |

Re: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by bidexiii: 11:16am On Jul 13, 2018 |
iblawi: How many of them did you export, you can't even produce for your growing population. Nigerian just started doing well in the area of rice production. Few years back will still import rice, vegetable oil etc. The cocoa you are mentioning was Nigerians backbone and coffee, palm oil etc before the advent of black oil. Dude you are talking of the past glory go check your facts right. The cocoa house in Ibadan, oyo state was built by cocoa money. The present government it's trying it's best reviving agricultural sector i:e; Ede Cocoa Processing Plant, Osun State is the only attracting cocoa factory for Nigeria’s remaining five cocoa processing factories to tap export demand for butter, cake and powder. Ede Cocoa Processing Plant has no debt burden and it is now producing Nigeria’s cocoa cake, powder, chocolate and butter. This makes it easy for Nigeria’s processed cocoa to compete favourably. Ede Cocoa plant remains one of the fastest selling and most desirable agricultural commodities in the international market due to the rapid growth and expansion of chocolate confectioneries and other products. Cashew nuts & ground nut are also been exported but not as in the 60s, 70s & early 80s. The same Google you don't know to use well to get yourselves informed. Don't come here and start displaying your ignorance Calm your nerves down and stop ranting. |
