– Two Nigerian lesbians tie the knot at private wedding in Canada

Two Nigerian Lesbians have successfully tied the knot to become ‘husband and wife’ in Canada in the presence of some friends and loved ones from Nigeria , Usa and Canada. According to a report sighted by 1960ng.com , the couple, Diana and Teresa Akpeyi, decided to get married in Canada. It is purported that their decision to get married in a foreign country was because the Homophopic laws of Nigeria denied them that right.

In recounting the love story, the couple revealed that they were very happy together and glad they could finally tie the knot. For Diana and Teresa in Canada, their wedding was not too loud, and was limited to a few trusted family and friends.

Reports have it that a number of gays and lesbians living in Ghana ‘flee’ the country to get married abroad due to the uncertainty with which their relationship would be treated. In December 2017, another lesbian couple were reported to have tied the knot in Holland and their pictures went viral on social media.

The story of an Alumnus of Achimota school (’91 Year Group), Stephen Akpan Caesar, also went viral when it was reported that he had tied the knot with his male partner, Ryan Lathrum, at Sonoma Valley in America. Nigeria’s Homophopic laws currently do not allow for gays and lesbian to get married or have sexual relationship . Many calls have been made on past and the previous government to legalize same gender marriage and sex but the issue is still not being attended to and seems like it will never be attended to . For fear of abuse or persecution, many gays and lesbians leave Nigeria for other countries that have a flexible laws that allow same gender marriage.
