Emmanuel Okolo a Lagos based Doctor has appeared before Epe Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State after he allegedly slapped and flogged a nurse that works at his Hospital.

The 35-year-old doctor was arrested on June 20th after he slapped Dorcas Adeyera, 23, for admitting accident victim without his consent.

The police charged Okolo with a one-count charge of assault. Moses Oyekanmi the Police prosecutor told the court the accused committed at about 2 am, at Awoyaya Hospital in Ibeju-Lekki.

Okolo was said to have initially summoned Adeyera into his office and ordered her to kneel down. When she refused, the doctor was alleged to have dealt her several slaps and also flogged her with a belt.

The nurse, in her report to the medical director of the hospital, said she was humiliated by Okolo. “My Lord, the accused caused bodily injury to the complainant. .

He slapped her just because she worked for him. He should be punished for it,” prosecutor Oyekanmi said.
The offence contravenes Section 172 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. (Revised) .

After pleading not guilty, Magistrate O. A. Fowowe-Erusiafe admitted him to bail at N50,000. Fowowe-Erusiafe adjourned the case till August 19 for trial.

He's not the owner of the hospital ? Why was he angry to the extent of assaulting a female staff. Why tell your staff to kneel down. ( an adult )


Also why did the nurse admit a patient without the doctors input. What gave her such boldness?

Finally he shouldn't have assaulted her, just report to the owner of the hospital. Now he's up the creek without a paddle.

He said the truth and you know it. My wife is a doctor, she's a very gentle woman and yet even in her, I see this disdain doctors have for nurses as if they are somewhat inferior human beings. I've been at a hospital and a doctor was threatening a nurse that he would slap her, I had to personally intervene and tell him off. Merely looking at the pompous and egoistic manner the idiot was talking and the way the nurse was cowering before him, I could easily tell it wasn't a one off incident. Well at least on that day I wasn't going to let him get away with that.

In the UK within the last month we heard of doctor misconduct from the UK. There are countless examples of sexual misbehaviour, criminal prescribing and even murder. Ever heard of a doctor called Harold Shipman??
Education has little to do with morality.
Many of our greatgrandparents never went to any school and were not touts or thuugs

When some very few individuals act in a bad manner, we call them bad eggs, of which they are everywhere. But when a greater number in particular place are bad, you then don't see them as bad eggs anymore but people who are products of failed society/institutions. Now compare the percentage you have in Nigeria and then with those you mentioned oversea and see that it is as a result of failed institutions here.

Recently a youth corper bled to death cos she was not given attention at the hospital due to the fact that the doctors were requesting for police report. Where is our humanity in all this? A nurse is not subjected to a doctor, its an emergency and its the priority of every hospital to attend to every emergency and give first aid. she is trained to access emergency using triage system , she knows the status of the patient and for the hospital if they cant take an emergency case then it should be closed down.

assault on the nurse must not be handle fairly. both parties are employed under same management , they are both subjected to the boss.

When a patient is seen at A&E have they been "admitted"

There are many many World class hospitals where doctors have no gatekeeper function. Rather admission s controlled by a Bed Manager usually a senior Nurse. The best the doctor can do f they consider admission inappropriate is to discharge and then discuss at service improvement meetings not flogging the nurse
