Which between a nursing degree and medical degree from Nigeria will be easy to migrate abroad with and offer more career growth and opportunity

Regardless you may have to start over again with any of these degrees from Nigeria. Competition is tight here in the states , I know this because I work in the healthcare field. A lot of people especially Nigerians like to put out misconceptions about theses fields especially nursing.

Can you elaborate on the emboldened portion?

Nigerians in the US like to encourage people coming into the country to go for nursing because they feel like it's an easy field to get into and you will make alot of money from it . I even read a post on this forum that stated that nurses make no less than $30 per hour in the US which is not true. Some registered nurses can make low as $19 per hour so all I'm advising is that you look at different fields.

I don't think the emboldened part is true. I have not seen any registered nurse making as low as that. Even in the Midwest, talk about a state like Wyoming, where the pay is probably lowest, the average entry-level, registered nurse with an ADN working in a hospital makes no less than $26 per hour. Those who work in nursing homes even make more. Meanwhile, this is on the lowest side; there are several entry-level registered nurses that make above $30 per hour. The good thing about nursing is that it is pretty easy to get a job, so if a hospital offers a low pay, a nurse could easily apply elsewhere and receive higher pay, especially in hospitals and nursing homes with critical nursing shortage. Nursing homes pay way more, especially those in rural areas. In addition, with nursing, if you put a lot of work into research, you can easily find hospitals or nursing homes that will pay your tuition while you're working for them, or pay off your student loan if you agree to work for them for three to five years after graduating. The opportunities are endless.

It is very true, this is coming from someone working in the field so I'm able to decipher rates more easily. Wages vary from state to state and are relative to cost of living. A new nurse in tennessee for example can earn as as low late teens to early $20's per hour. A new new nurse New York or calfornia can earn upwards of $40 per hour or more but cost of living is much more . As far as tuition reimbursement, those are a few these days and most hospitals are starting to prefer bsn prepared nurses. Also loan repayment are also rare. Also new graduate rates are set in the hospital and are usually non negotiable. As far as nursing homes, I would be vary of some of them as they may cost you your license because some of them are runned very poorely. The nursing homes in my area pay less than the hospitals and I found it funny how most of them were staffed with africans. Also be wary of places offering huge sign on bonuses, some of them are badly runned. I just want to clear up misconceptions about this field and want people to think objectively when choosing a field. There is a reason why they always need nurses , the field has alot of turn over rate to it because it's very stressful and alot politics involved.

The difference is LPN and BSN.
LPNs do not require as much education. They are the ones in the $19 range.
Hospitals and most mid to large companies do offer tuition reimbursement. You have to commit to work for them and pay it first yourself.
It was my understanding that Obama instituted student loan forgiveness for public servants. That would include nursing.
People recommend nursing because the opportunities are almost limitless. Going from working the unit to administration to advanced practicioner licenses.
How long have you been in the US?

Both of the last two posters are right in their points.Nursing is overpopulated. The schools are very competitive to be accepted. Some people wait for years to get in. I have never heard of a registered nurse making $19. That does not make any sense. Lpns maybe but not RNS. Im in the healthcare industry also.

Yes I'm talking bsn registered nurses , yes that rate is very low but it happens . Most new grad pay rates is in the $20 something per hour range. That why you see alot of nurses working overtime. I have been in the us for over a decade.

Yes they are student loan forgiveness programs but it's not that easy. You have to think about what your giving away and what your taking . Some times you lose alot of potential earning income because you have to work at an approved facility that usually pays you than less market rate.

Not True bro, an RN Cant be making $19 an hour in this world and the next world to come... So far so good with what i have seen IT is the most lucrative field in the US right now.. six figures is guaranteed, depending on what aspect of IT.. I know of two of my friends who rakes in more than $700k a year, some are making $300k..The Nursing field is over populated.

Lol Nigerians, they like to over exaggerate, I'm not saying $19 is the norm but pay can be low as that. As for those your friends, they may be at the top scale of their field and live in high cost of living if that income is actually true.. The average american family of four make about $55,000 per year. Six figure income salary is not the norm for majority of nurses in the US but nurses in the California expect to make that much because they cost of living is high. All I'm saying that Nigerians need to face the reality and stop spreading lies about this country. I been here for over a decade , so I know the good and the bad. Do you live in the country or back home? The reason I ask is because it very easy for people here deceive people back home.

Are you meaning Naira or US dollars? That income amount in dollars is astronomically high.
IT is not guarranteed 6 figures in US dollars. I know plenty of IT consultants and they would laugh in your face for saying that.

Ok, but you are leading people to believe that you can make $1 million by taking 1 random IT job, when it is in fact a combination of jobs and a very specific path. Ive no problem celebrating someone else' s success but lets be forthcoming on how to get there, ok.

People just go on the internet and start misleading others with gross exaggeration. One funny thing I have seen on NL is how everyone likes to use the line "one of my friends does this or that.." It's always some unverifiable friends doing this and that. Highest paid IT gurus are in the Bay Area working for companies like Google, Facebook, Apple, etc. Despite how extremely difficult it is to get jobs in these fields, no one makes anywhere near $700K a year. In fact, it is extremely difficult to get into these companies if you are not American and did not attend any of the Ivy Leagues or other non-Ivy Leagues like MIT, Caltech, or Stanford. Mark Zuckerberg was recently slammed for hiring only of 2% of the entire employees at Facebook as balcks. Now, someone somewhere in Nigeria is reading this thread thinking you can just venture into IT and start earning six figures when you graduate. They say Nursing is overpopulated; is IT not more overpopulated than Nursing? Count the number of Indians and Chinese venturing into IT. How many of them get jobs at Goldman Sachs or Yahoo? How about the very many IT graduates working in banks or schools? Even as a surgeon, you will need to work very many hours to make anywhere close to $700K. And people don't even mention the amount of taxes (may be as high as 40%) that will be taken out.

Having said that,

"The average annual pay for a Splunk Architect in the United States is $142,000 a year.

A Splunk Architect annual salary ranges from $119,000 to $158,000 nationally. This small spread of $39,000 indicates Splunk Architect salaries are seeing little change across the country.

To estimate the most accurate annual salary range for Splunk Architect jobs, ZipRecruiter continuously scans its database of millions of active jobs published locally throughout America."

https://www.ziprecruiter.com/Salaries/Splunk-Architect-Salary

The medical field pays the highest, and you should not imagine earning six figures immediately you graduate in IT, unless you get an offer from companies such as the ones I mentioned above. People should be wary about all these faceless forums information.

What kind of job are you doing ? It's not impossible to make six figures , like I said, there are different factors that affect pay. You don't have to be here for 20 years to make six figures but don't expect to make that fresh out the boat.

If you can get your BSN from the get go, as more hospitals are leaning towards BSN prepared nurses. If it's going to cost you too much money for the bsn right now or the wait list is too long then you can do the ADN programs and then do a RN- BSN program later. Research the job market for your location as well, some are very tough to get into with just an ADN like California.

I made six figures fresh out the boat, it all boils down to how you package yourself and the years of experience you put on your resume, if you can defend it 6 figures is not far fetched.. I am also in IT..

I sleep and eat ziprecruiter.com. dice.com, careerbuilder.com, monster.com none of those sites will actually give u a definite pay, they always base pay on estimates..
