Not long after his election as the governor of Lagos state, Gov. Ambode approved the installation of Wire-mesh fencing on medians of major expressways around Lagos state.

Installing Wire-mesh fences became necessary in order to ensure safety and orderliness on the roads.

With these Wire-mesh fences, hawkers no longer have a field day on Lagos highways, just as pedestrians do not cross the highway indiscriminately like before. Instead, pedestrians are left with no choice than to use the pedestrian bridges, walkways or other designated places.

Also, with the fences, pickpockets, robbers and other criminals who emerge from nowhere and snatch valuables from unsuspecting pedestrians before disappearing into their hideouts have also being prevented from operating easily.

Indeed, these fences have been proving to be useful for the purposes that they were designed to achieved.

However, the enemies of progress are at it.

Vandals have begun a gradual destruction of the fences.

The activities of these environmental offenders can be noticed at locations such as Ojota to Ketu, from Berger on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway to Ojodu Abiodun. Oshodi, Alapere and some other busy areas, which have these fences.

Sadly, there does not seem like there is any attempt by the authorities to replace the vandalized sections of the fences.

Hopefully, these wire-mesh fences will not go the same way of other public facilities in our society that ultimately suffer from lack of maintenance.

This is Nigeria.....

No maintenance culture.
The poor masses are more wicked than the elites.

Come to my area and see how they keep destroying borehole that was built by a serving State House Member.
Even Transformers are destroyed on daily bases.
It's Appalling.

People are so wicked and heartless, especially the very poor ones.

It was only a matter of time really. Lagosians like sharp sharp things, having to walk 100 metres to cross the road was seemingly inconvenient so I expected this.

We need CCTVs on our streets God knows. Imagine a control room where they are watching every pedestrians on their screens and the moment you do something criminal like this, they alert the next police vehicle around there with your pictures. Even if they can't arrest them immediately, their pictures should be shared with price tag on who can lead police to them. Fines and bail money realized from all these can be used to manage the system and pay the staff and even who knows might be a means of generating funds for the government.

Using very frail fences at bus stops was very senseless to me.

These things get touched and pushed by people every blessed day.

If you want to build a fence, there are very durable metals to use.

But then, wetin concern me?

Nigeria's major problem has always been her citizens, nothing more nothing less...
A country where people dump refuse inside gutter and still complain of flood...
Bad citizens would always become bad leaders...
Not too young to rule my foot..
The Nigerian youths are not better than the old politicians.

Ambode's wire meshed fence? does that even make sense to you?

Is it State govt property or property of the Ambode?

At what point do you outgrow this mediocrity?
