Today I heard something that tingled my ears. An elderly lady(probably in her 50's) was discussing with another close to where I was situated. I didn't know much about the scope of their discourse, but I think it had something to do with unrequited love. The first woman was like in Igbo "Woman, wetin be woman? Woman wey full everywhere?". She then added a shocker "If I were a man I won't even marry".

This came from a lady. In the real sense of it, if some women were given the chance to change their gender and become men, they won't pay much attention to their former gender-species. Maybe because they know how little they are worth within themselves.

Her statement taught me one salient lesson- no matter how we look at it, a man is doing a woman a favour by marrying her. I know feminists would attack this view in counter-arguments, which is okay. But how I wish they can counter this argument with actions-in paying their own bills without depending on any male and in building a career solely on their strength and ideas. Otherwise they are still making this old lady seem correct in her statement.

Here on Nairaland, we have evening newspapers of over 35 prowling the Romance section advising married women yet they are single and frustrated.

They know everything a woman should do to a man in marriage yet they are single.

For over 5 years now, pocohantas, biacan, shugavee, cococandy, safiaa, ladyhippolyta88 et al have been on Nairaland and their fellow women are getting married every weekend yet they remain single after 5 years of active Advisory roles. I wnder why they can't apply their own "tried & tested" methods to hold down a man & build their own homes.
