Hello wonderful people I greet you all. My particular greetings to Robonski15 who created this thread. I have been on it for days now and I am already feeling like a catfish farmer. Each time I read through the questions and answers I hardly have time to attend to anything else; it is more like an encyclopedia. Thanks so much.
Now I have this burning desire to start my own catfish farm in Udi Enugu state but I need answers to these following questions
1. Do we have any known catfish farm in Enugu that I can visit for information or mentoring?
2. What is the correct PH for water to be used for spawning or rearing of juveniles?
Please I need urgent answers to these questions so I can take off now that the zeal is fresh. Thanks to our contributors as I continue to read and gather more knowledge. thanks.

for question 1, I don't live in Enugu..but a water pH of between 7 to 8.5 is better for spawning...

20 feet by 25feets is way enough for 1500 fish fingerlins.. That is 6meters by 7.5meter by 1.5 meters depth.. 67,500 litres space.. 20litres/ fish to table size is ideal...

Sometimes else must be the reason.. Not space.. Just an engineer view..

Good dsy house, i have been following this thread since last month, and i have really learnt alot. Prior took joining this forum i had bought a tarpaulin pond and ordered for fingerlings through the man i got the pond for. I paid him for 1500 1500 fingerlings at 15naira, since he offered to put me through in the biz as a first timer. But wat he delivered doesn't look like 1500,and when i tried to relate my dissatisfaction with him he blocked me from calling him. All this led me to finding this thread on nairaland so i could get advices from my seniors in the business. My fingerlings are 3days old from stocking. And from my analysis i have only recorded one death since i stocked which was on the day they were stocked. Please i also need like 500 more fingerlings to add to my stock to make up for the incomplete fingerlings that was sold to me. Please anyone with a good stock should please contact me urgently on 08102194949 so that they would all grow uniformly.

Fish farming is not all 1+1=2, so many variables, this was just one of your experience, you will meet more along the way, please don't buy more, though I have to sell but my advice to you is to take good care of the once you have already and learn along the way, managing tarpaulin pond is not easy as ABC, remember to take record of expenditure, no one get it right on first try, you have to master the art, look for ways to improve. One more thing, even the fingerlings you have will not grow uniformly, some will outgrown the others, please learn from this
