Hello house, pls I need more clarifications on electrically inclined jobs in Sk as we are planning to move next month.
Cc:salford

Thanks
There are jobs in Automation if you are skilled in programing PLCs, especially Allen Bradley and Siemens products.

For Telecoms, SaskTel is the dominant player in Saskatchewan. Getting a job with SaskTel could be challenging because it's a crown cooperation, but you could still get in if are well prepared with a little bit of luck.

This is a loaded post that should have been spread out. To begin with I hate Quebec/French so my opinions will be very bias. Don't come to Gatineau to tune your French, you better know your French or you can get frustrated or annoyed. Since your studies will most likely be in English (I'm assuming) you'll be going to a University in Ottawa. Either Ottawa U or Carleton U. Your husband who I'm assuming can't speak French, will most likely get a job and be working on the Ottawa side. Since all your business will be on the Ontario side, why do you want to go to the Quebec side ? Ottawa is a small city so commute time isn't a big issue (with a car) regardless of where you live. If you want to live in the suburbs, there are a few nice suburbs in Ottawa with decent rent and house prices for when you're ready to buy. Google Orleans, Kanata and Barhaven, all nice little suburbs in Ottawa. Kanata is too far for me though.

Living on the Quebec side while working in Ottawa you'd have to adjust your taxes come tax season so you don't get double taxed. I know the city of Ottawa and Gatineau has a merging bus service for the downtown core in Ottawa due to a lot of government workers. But if you live in Quebec and have business in the west end of Ottawa, do they have a merging bus service ? Would you have to buy a bus pass for Ottawa and Gatineau ? I don't know. If you decide to take some sort of student loan which is administered by the provincial government, you'd probably have to take one through the Quebec government. But going to school in Ontario would you be considered an out of province student ? You see how things can start to get a little complicated living outside the province ? Though these issues can be negated, but why even have them ? Ottawa is still a very French/bilingual city with a few French schools. Even English schools have advance French classes. You and the kids can learn French on the Ontario side if you want, no need to head to Quebec. My 2 cents.
A million thanks for your very informative response.I can see how things can get complicated especially for a jjc lol.I will look at these areas u suggested.

Perfect! I won't mind that at all, that is the renting company's info.
We are both doctors.

I will be most grateful.

You can find decent places anywhere. As long as you mind yourself, nobody will disturb you. Or maybe he just wants you guys to be around newer developments ? Any way I know someone who rented a 3 bedroom in the NW, close to west Edmonton mall (google it) with lots of amentias. She pays 1200-1300 per month with everything included except hydro (neppa). She says it's a great place if you have kids. It's a renters market, and she got 2 month free rent, and free cable and internet for free for 1 year. You'd have to negotiate since you don't want a 1 year lease and have no credit history. Perhaps I can get the renting companies info for you ? Also what's your line of work, just curious.
Re: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant by Akingsqueen: 3:30am On Jul 30, 2018
Well we are just curious and anxious JJC's who made enquiry on the place we intend to move to and were given information, perhaps based on the knowledge of the adviser.
That is exactly why I came here. Who wants to throw away money that he doesn't have much of.
Please I am also open to your own suggestions too if there are any so that I can explore all options.

^^^nice one.

It is always nice to have an open mind when relocating. New immigrants are told to avoid some areas, yet these areas are much better than the VI's of Lagos and Asokoros of Abuja, Nigeria.

In my opinion, it's a good idea for new migrants to save as much as possible by having an open mind about areas they choose to live aslong as it is close to shopping centres and maybe kid's schools. However, anyone that decides to lands in choice areas should also be willing to pay premium, and I trust my Nigerian folks are capable smiley

Hello good people of naira land! Arrived in Ottawa last week, landed in 2016. Flew Royal air maroc and I'm shocked at the negative reviews I read online before I set out. Crew members were polite, plane was comfortable, didn't have the latest movies on their entertainment systems but too busy with the kids to even watch anything. Was a bit annoying that they kept seating hubby away from us but wasn't so bad ultimately. The layover at casablanca was just over 7 hours and they provided a nice lounge with free food. The only downside was the super stinky toilets! We ended up using the toilets near the cafeteria which were super clean.

Oh back in naija, Naija immigration threw out our palm oil sad then agriculture said it's now legally required that we pay 2k per bag for every bag containing foodstuff. We had 3 =6k. We gave them 4k.

Where was I? ... landed in montreal, RAM forgot one of our bags, filled a form, arrived the next day. We left montreal to ottawa by train, the luggage train was cancelled so we had to lug all 8 of our 23kg bags onto the train with our 3 kids - nightmare!

Okay so now in ottawa house hunting. Ottawa people what is happening with 3 bedroom rentals biko? Prices we are seeing are from $1900 to $2200 for 3 bed houses -townhouse, detached, terraced etc. Ogini? On top of that getting a place for August 1st has proved challenging so far. Many landlords say they have more than 1 application for a rental. I've checked kijiji ceaselessly, somebody, ANYBODY please help a sister on info on how to find an AFFORDABLE 3bed house in OTTAWA for AUGUST 1st.

Thanks!

Nice city, I think 5th largest in Alberta and officially the sunniest place in Canada, followed closely by Lethbridge and Calgary. MH is 3hrs drive SE of Calgary. I have driven past Medicine Hat probably over 80 times in the last 1 to 2 years. I usually stop at MH to take a break from driving, refuel and dine. It's sort off a gateway city when leaving Alberta via Highway 1/TransCanada heading East. Also lots of Alberta Sherrif cops around that area. Hmmm, I got my first speeding ticket as a jjc in Canada at Medicine Hat. I have been told that there are some Nigerians in the city too and a RCCG parish is present.

I am not sure why you want info on MH, but you might find it boring if you are a "big city" person though, especially if you love Nigerian parapo associations.

Plese can we have the contact of this other 'contact'?
Thanks

40manlappy:

Apparently, he has "opened eye" like @koonlay5 noted. Got this man's contact from an acquaintance who processed hers in March 2018. He did not ask for a dime; merely asked her to send 2k for courier and forwarded the letter to her destination. I was so impressed that I felt obligated to share the information here for the benefit of others. In my opinion then, it was cheaper than Ottawa's $50, especially for someone who is still in the country. Maybe you should explore @studyexec's suggestion since the man has decided to go the typical "Naija" way....

The POF that you present with your application is funds that you are expected to come to Canada with. You are required to have funds that would cover 6 months worth of expenses in case you are unable to get a job immediately. That said, please be informed that the cost of your flight is not to be sourced from your POF. While you are to use your POF to pay for rent in Canada, you are not encouraged to pay for your rent from outside Canada. Aren't you supposed to inspect the house you want to pay for and read the lease agreement you would be signing? Given, someone can inspect the house for you, but I don't know if someone can sign a lease for you. I stand to be corrected.
Long story short, have the required POF for your family size with you whether in cash or evidenced by bank statements or cash in card when you land. You may or may not be required to show it at the port of entry.

Hello @40manlappy, did u finally settle in Gattineau? I am expecting copr and hoping to land in September with my family of 5.I am looking at settling in Gattineau because it is ranked high on the places to live and close to Ottawa.I also love the bilingualism and see it as an opportunity to fine-tune my French.I have a Delf B2 in French but my skills have gone rusty as I had no one to talk with when I finished my French studies.
Anyone else with info on the area can also enlighten me.I am also open to other regions just that for now Gattineau is the first choice but it is not cast in stone.
Hubby works in the bank back home and I was in Hr/admin until I commenced master of research studies last year.I will do a short landing, finish my program around July 2019 and return finally to join my family in Canada.I have been in contact with some schools in Canada about transferring my studies but they responded I will apply to start afresh and some of the coursework component might be waived for me.Because of the hassles,i have decided to finish my current program and then commence PhD studies next year in Canada.
Given that I want a new career in research/academia,I want a suburb that has an easy commute to place of work for hubby(no job yet though but we think it might be in Ontario) and I when I commence studies/work though I have not gotten a school yet but my research shows most of the unis are in Ontario too.
Thanks for the anticipated responses.

Apologies for the delayed response. If I may ask, is your hubby a fluent French speaker? If not, Quebec may limit his chances. Ottawa is bilingual city too, so you may also take that into consideration though there are jobs that do not require French. Depending on what he does in Nigeria and his career aspirations for Canada, I suggest you take a look at GTA and surrounding cities IF Ontario is your choice. Since you are short-landing to return in July 2019, his potential for getting a job in his desired field is a factor you should seriously consider.

Note that varying levels of language proficiency are required for some roles. As @maternal noted, you do not need to come to Quebec to fine-tune your French. There are Francophone communities all over Ontario. You/hubby may stand out and have better chances with your "rusty" French outside Quebec/other parts of Ontario/Canada than compete with native/fluent speakers of the language.

How old are your kids? From my experience, if they are older than 4, there may be a challenge with catching up with French language. It maybe easier if they are younger than that age.

Also, you need an Ontario address to enjoy settlement/services in Ontario upon landing-I recommend this for your hubby. Usually, this has to be evidenced by lease agreement or bank statement. Regarding taxation, to the best of my knowledge, your residence as at December 31 of every year will determine which provincial tax will apply.

Note that almost everything in Quebec is different (taxation, sales tax, car registration etc) and to some extent, the province is more accepting if you speak French. To be fair, Gatineau/Quebec has cheaper accommodation, car insurance, childcare costs but overall, I suggest you look at where your family would have better opportunities. Should you decide on Ottawa, I can link you up with a small "e-community" of Nigerians there.

Power Systems is good. The grid and T/D network is managed by the government, but there are several contractors managing the networks.
All are not as buoyant as Alberta and Ontario which are diversified. However, the pay is higher for Power jobs in Sask than in Alberta and fewer competition for the same jobs.

Good people, i need your kind and urgent response on this.

My younger sister (17years) got admitted to a college in ontario and at the point of entry, the visa officer inadvertently forgot to issue a study permit. All effort to reach CIC to issue a permit for her interland had been abortive.

Seniors in the house, @blackbuddy,@vcole, @salford, @maternal, kindly help with directions or suggestions on how to tackle this.
I am very open to any info from anyone who may have gone through this before.
I look forward to your kind advices and suggestions. Many thanks.

Hi,
I believe she can go to the nearest International Airport(with a CIC department) or the closest Land Border to where she lives to get it resolved. Both options seem to be the most efficient way of resolving this kind of issue from what I have heard so far.
