There are certain individuals I have refused to respond to. Consider it a sign that my posts are not meant for you, but people in possession of a few more IQ points.

Please don't do that.

I am old enough, and posess enough soundness of mind to recognize where I have erred, and to do the needful. Your attempt at being gentlemanly risks undermining a very important discussion.

As I have said, posterity will judge not only the guilty, but the insouciant. Don't be insouciant to the manace of tribalism because of perceived more urgent Fulani threats.

You opined earlier that I was just being politically correct. I let it slide then because, contrary to the impression given by my creating a Monday morning post, I am indeed busy, and responding selectively to posts.

I am not being PC. I maintain that despite the obvious inter-tribal differences and competition, the narative of wholesale hate is one that should not be allowed to take hold. Some of my best friends growing up were Igbo. Some of the smartest people I personaly know are Igbo. I have Igbo kinsmen by marriage. At this very instant, I am giving multiple opportunities to Igbos at the expense of Yorubas. These are but personaly examples from an ocean of examples I can personally attest to. Why should we then allow the propagation of a narrative of wholesale hate just because some imbeciles on Nairaland got a few MB of data?

Posterity demands that we have this conversation. This may not be the best forum or time, but one can only try. I have a thick enough skin to ignore most of the predictably stupid responses. I look forward to more measured and reasonable posts, and if they are not forthcoming, we all go on with our lives.

But if I ever get challenged at some distant date, I can point to my efforts to defuse the situation.

You have a point. But we cannot roll back the many years of hate and animosity between both tribes just by creating threads that selectively blames one tribe for bigotry. This is because they would refute your assertions—just as igbos have done on this thread— and you would have lost the opportunity to have a meaningful discussion before it even starts. Where do we start from? We have been at each others throat for almost 7 decades, we only thank God we have not fought ourselves at anytime in history. The best advice i can give is to leave things as they are between both tribes as any effort to reconcile both will be thwarted by hardliners from both tribes. Like i said before, i used to try to reason with igbos too—but i saw that i failed each time i tried. And since then, i have left them alone. I advice you to let things lie. Posterity has and will judge you right in the future for trying to smoothen relations between both tribes. Cheers.

op you're even worst, you address hatred of another tribe but turn a blind eye towards your own tribe,in your attempt to address the issue of tribalism and hatred you ended up as promoter of it,not that am supporting it but is your tribe free to hate and another not?

Chief, no tribe is free of hate, and if you use your "search" button, you should find situations where I took Yorubas to task for their posts. I opened this thread because of an observation I have made over time about the imbalance in how either side treats tribalism. If you are confident that my observation is incorrect, please say so, but do be kind enough to provide some attempt at an evidence.

For those acusing me of hypocrisy, it's a fair accusation. In response, I need you to do something for me. Pick 10 examples of threads that became war zones in terms of tribe-bashing. Use the three metrics I suggested above (the questions) to assess them.

If, after that exercise, you still feel I am a hypocrite, I will respond more directly tp the allegation.

you are a bloody hypocrite....if you are for peace, you won't completely be for one and thrash the other...Yorubas are as much as guilty as the igbos and you should have address both rather than conveniently sticking your boot in to one...

And for the avoidance of doubt, I am 100% in support of Biafra, if that is what the majority of Igbos want. The fact that Igbos have not been able to actualize the dream (again: IF THIS IS INDEED WHAT THE MAJORITY OF IGBOS WANT) has less to do with Yorubas, and alot more to do with a need for ndi'gbo to re-write their political playbook.

Just for this statement ....u have my full support to write whatever u want to write in this thread...just write....write on......anyone trying to stop this youngman from writing....will have to battle me from now on....

If i could just say one thing in response to the Op, it will be: Igbos are not to be taken very seriously. They have huge inferiority complex issues nobody can remedy in Nigeria. You would do well to ignore them because you cannot stop them from hating others. That is who they are.

OP, Igbos will frustrate you with more hate than you ever imagined. They are built to hate, forget about their insults jareeeee.

They will roll into this thread with waves of insults like a tsunami and completely your thread. Igbos are easily the most hateful people in Nigeria.

But other than that, they are largely harmless. Its better you do something better with your time than try to reason with igbos oooo.

Idiot;...and this is one example Igbos curse your kind all the time. The most fateful tribe in Nigeria act out or should I say express their hate on other Nigerians by killing their fellow Nigerians, but the most ugliest Nigerians(both inside/outside who supposedly rush on to marry women from the side they dimmed the most hateful tribe in Nigeria) from the west side, out of envy and HATE will still describe the Igbos as the most hateful tribe in Nigeria. Your blindfold miss characterization of Igbos in Nigeria out of hate and envy thankfully have dragged Nigeria down to become the # 1 poverty capital of the world....pls continue!!.

I'll respond to you only because you claim to be Yoruba, which may draw less attention to the high horse you'r riding.

First, I have had exchanges with bigots from either tribe multiple times. Over time, I came to notice a worrisome pattern. If you care to, you can find my previous posts on the subject, each time making the same point. You will also find where I challenged Yorubas who stepped out of line.

I created this thread not to "trash" any tribe, but simply to give a wider platform to air an observation I have made multiple times in the past.

What is hypocritical about this, or do you need me to give you a link to an online dictionary?

I don't know why it is only igbos that are not allowed to hate in Nigeria, you hate me but when I display that same hatred towards you it becomes a big problem, whenever election is around the corner Igbo's outside east are not save, I had to relocate to east before last general election, imagine people discussing on how to kill you if election didn't turnout how they expect it to be because you're igbo.

I still blame the OP for creating this thread as it has not solved the problem it sought to. Rather, it has exacerbated the fissures we have in Igbo–Yoruba relations by giving the usual suspects—Igbos—the opportunity to propagate more hate. You can see them coming out in droves to attack the Op and other Yorubas on this thread. It is always better to avoid online skirmishes with the Igbos because their persecution complex and generationally inculcated hate will always come to fore to blur the lines of meaningful discussion.

This thread is a perfect example of rapprochement gone wrong.

Reconcile firstly by atonement by your tribe to acknowledge your partaking in genocide against the Igbos, followed by overwhelming Yoruba support for complete restructuring of Nigeria, otherwise, we will go from # 1 poverty capital of the world to something like somali/south Sudan. Politics of tribe, religion & regions over the decades breed backwardness, underdevelopment and poverty.

proffemi,
I have read your submissions with rapt attention, and will only respond to you because you have shown high maturity and civility.
Your submission on this topic is noteworthy but I will appeal that you forget this data thing that you are peddling...
You did not seek to ask the problem, you attempted to be the judge and jury by already staying on one side of the fence.....both parties are as guilty as the other...I have been on Nairaland so long enough to even lose count...
Your aspersion of data is annoying and nauseating and is responsible for the way this supposed beautiful thread should have gone. Please,if you can open another thread and be more unbiased, especially with some paragraphs yanked off...
During the biafra/ipob saga, were you on Nairaland? You will not be on Nairaland, and tell me this 'data' thing you are positing....
The trolling here is like saying who is older between the egg and the hen?
Today, once you oppose Buhari, you are ipob and Igbo
Once you support him,you are a Muslim fundamentalist...and so on
I have cautioned some Igbos who have even called me an ewedu man, afonja and the rest but I laugh it off...
Surprisingly, a lot of threads have been opened for this...that's why am taking aback at resurgent2019's submissions here....to say the least I am dismayed at his comments here...this is not his first moniker. He was one of the leading lights of this tribal ish,he repented, changed monikers, brought up threads like you have done for peace sake, but he was the 2nd person to comment and you just feel like he is a different person.........I have seen his fellow Yorubas here malign him and even call him ipob and the rest...he doesn't attack them or call them names,he doesn't generalise them the way he generalises the Igbos that calls him names,is he then not part of the problem he seeks to solve?
I will not try to exonerate the Igbos,I read some of their comments and I get embarrassed.....it's even worse when you try to talk to them personally....but I am proud to be one...
I had my education here in the west and know some Yorubas that hate anything Igbo, should I now call them enemies because a few of them are enemies to themselves? Absolutely not....
Please, the owner of this forum thrives in this adversity, otherwise he knows what to do,it's more money in his pocket.....So proffemi, please attempt to be disinterested based on the way you started the thread,it will set some pace for proper issues devoid of the bashing that it has taken now....Thank you...

My beef is with situations where tribal posts emerge on threads that should elicit empathy or sympathy. My intention was never to be politically correct, just as it was never to denigrate any tribe. I merely make an observation from the POV of my observations/data over time.

I have repented from propagating hate against the igbos—and that is the reason why most of fellow Yoruba brothers now hate me. But I don’t care what they say. With regards to OP, I feel he was wrong to have opened this thread at all. We all know igbos and Yorubas are like cat and mouse online and no matter the rapprochement, peace will continue to be elusive. I however stand by my statement that Igbos have more hate in them, maybe due to the stories told to them by their parents about the civil war. This is a trite point that most Nigerians accept as true. The fact that I make that assertion doesn’t mean I hate igbos, it means it is a conclusion that I have arrived at after evaluating the empirical evidence at my disposal. I obtained inference from the facts, and arrived at my personal conclusion.

Having said that, we need not argue amongst ourselves over who is right or who is wrong going forward, but accept the peace of the grave yard we have between both tribes and seek to make the best use of it. Arguing further will only deepen the animosity between both tribes. Besides, I have repented from anti Igbo hate because it is a battle I have realized I can’t win.

Peace.

I just visited that thread. This is the first overtly tribal post (in response to a particular post):

It has 5 likes.
Compare this with the two examples I presented.

You think data is for only theses? My brother, that is why the "oyinbos" have left us far behind. Data /evidence should inform everything we say or do. The laziness/reluctance to obtain these, while still maintaining a stubborn position, is the black man's bane.

2. You keep saying you have been purged of anti-Igbo sentiments, but if I were an unbiased Igbo man, I would find some of your choice of words insulting.

You (or anyone else) are free to accuse me of bias for apparently making this thread one-sided, but you cannot accuse me of being insulting of Igbos. I wish you could go through your posts again and say the same!

ref:
Igbos are not to be taken very seriously. They have huge inferiority complex issues nobody can remedy in Nigeria. You would do well to ignore them because you cannot stop them from hating others. That is who they are.

OP, Igbos will frustrate you with more hate than you ever imagined. They are built to hate, forget about their insults jareeeee.

With regards to my referenced statement on the front page, I stand by them since they are my personal opinion. Even the igbos here know that that is the opinion I hold of them. The fact I don’t engage in online hate anymore doesn’t mean I have changed my opinion.

Even this thread has proven me right. You have not made Head way in your rapprochement effort with the igbos.

My core point is that the igbos should be left alone to do what they please online. Nobody can change their feelings towards other Nigerians—especially Yorubas.

That’s all.

Peace.
Well,I will not come here to change your thoughts on who has more hate,Igbo or Yoruba?,because that is your personal opinion and one you are rightly to make....
In my sojourn in life....I have met good and bad people from different tribes...that means, the hate is not in the tribe but in the MAN........And i also think all tribes have this "disaffection" about one another....in all my years in the West,if I scale what every Yoruba man says,I will term them Lucifers.....then I went to the east, and discovered it was a general wahala......but educated minds like you should learn to restrain from some banters...you just scroll over and smile....
Tribes don't hate,individuals do..
Bless up

I just visited that thread. This is the first overtly tribal post (in response to a particular post):

Compare this with the two examples I presented.

You think data is for only theses? My brother, that is why the "oyinbos" have left us far behind. Data /evidence should inform everything we say or do. The laziness/reluctance to obtain these, while still maintaining a stubborn position, is the black man's bane.
Go down more,I don't need to call their monikers here,
I have had a hard time with them in the past because of this 'ish....

I will leave you to your belief....
I believe we all made salient points, and some sense in our nonsense, that anyone could pick from.....
For me
Data or no data
Grammar or no grammar
Pretence or no pretence
Mod or no mod

What is happening in Nairaland today is pathetic, especially from the so-called "educated tribes".
I will leave it at that.........
Have a nice day,prof
