you are very good at what you do,seems you use polythene mulch...this post is very helpful
jasper7:
Okay my soil experience. Now, the young cucumber seedling needs a strong boost of soil nutrient for rapid early growth. Very important.
How do you enhance their nutrient at early stage? By doing top dressing before planting. What is top dressing? No be wearing of cloth o or shirt o. cheesy. It's the application of manure/fertilizer to the top soil before planting. It's very vital that this is done. To guarantee healthy seedling like mine in the pics grin

A SOLID AND HEALTHY INVESTMENT IN AGRICULTURE

In general, to invest is to allocate money (or sometimes another resource, such as time) in the expectation of some benefit in the future – for example, investment in durable goods, in real estate by the service industry, in factories for manufacturing, in product development, and in research and development. However, this article focuses specifically on investment in agribusiness

In agribusiness, the benefit from investment is called a return. The return in agribusiness may consist of capital gains or investment income, including dividends, interest, rental income etc., or a combination of the two. The projected economic return is the appropriately discounted value of the future returns. The historic return comprises the actual capital gain (or loss) or income (or both) over a period of time. I don't know why people are afraid of investing their money in agribusiness but we are not afraid of doing online businesses that's not physical. No need to be afraid of us because it is what you are going to see yourself, we will invite you to come down to our farm to see how your money is been run. Who is fooling who in this country, when our so called government are not ready to do anything about the rate of unemployment in this country, by the year 2050, Nigeria will be the third most populous country in the whole world with 400,000million people, who will feed this people.... The only way out is AGRICULTURE... We have everything to feed our nation and we have everything for our economy to boom. If you can't farm, we will farm for you and you get your return on investment back after the harvesting. No cause for alarm, your investment is legally and genuinely secured.

Did you plant and abandon?

Did weed overtake the cucumbers?

Where did you get your seeds?

These are what you need to provide info to before you can be advised.

It's a fungal disease tho, which could have been prevented if you didn't use an infested soil.

There is no cure. Pull out the infected plant and burn it. Wash your hands and any tools use in removing the diseased cucumber plant with disinfectant thereafter.

Pray your other cucumbers didn't get the infection.

Did you plant and abandon? No. Its just a little area in my compound.

Did weed overtake the cucumbers? Not at all. The weeds are uprooted almost daily

Where did you get your seeds? Bought seeds from Shoprite just to try it out. They are "Starke Ayres" seeds

These are what you need to provide info to before you can be advised.

Hey Buddy, Nice cucumber experiment... You should continue to grow...
Generally, I don't like using chemicals on vegetables so we spray with neem oil (dogonyaro extract). If you use this early in the plant life you are very unlikely to develop any future infections. But the infection on your crop looks like it was caused by excess water. The excess water and the extreme heat during the day is a breading ground for fungals... So in future only water very early in the morning and make sure the plant doesn't get wet... You should also try and prune the plant so can produce for longer... Check out this instruction video on how to prune cucumbers...

Ok. But they look like they too have Downey mildew. Are you taking care of pests? You should consider spraying neem oil on them.

Hope you applied fertilizers after 2 weeks of planting?

Those yellow leaves seem like they are begging for nutrients. Lol.

P.s Which of the Starke Aryes varieties did you plant?

Well, I have been postponing this for a while, just because I dont believe in "internet farming". But I feel the need to encourage other Nigerian youths out there who want to venture into agribusiness. Came back to Nigeria after University studies to invest in my country, it has not been easy so far to farm in Nigeria. The challenges have been enormous but *in Lil Wayne's voice* "we doing aite".
If I start my story, the epistle will be too long, so... I'll just get straight to the point.

I am a vegetable farmer. And farm majorly cucumber. I am pro-organic farming (it's very expensive in Nigeria). I employ technologies from around the world (especially thailand) that suit our climate and culture. I've been into this for quite a while now.

Decided to upload pictures of how I plant and the agronomy I employ in my cucumber farming. To get more ideas from the pros here and to excite the intending farmers. Just follow up
Hello sir, I would need your help to get started with cucumber farming. I need an estimate to kick start this project. I intend to get grants to help me start this.
