The Chinese investors that started the project are not leaving until they are done. Watch out soon for the next update beyond the site clearing and excavation. Follow me for any update from the Anambra State Government. Thank you all.

I wouldn't say deceive but over ambitious. He has the will to do it but lets be honest Anambra do not have the financial strength to tackles all the infrastructural needs of the state. We need to increase taxes, that's the only way out. Our people don't want to pay taxes. There is no way a shop owner in main market should not pay up to 20,000 naira in revenue, monthly. These citizens are robbing the state.

The Chinese company and other stakeholders were going to spend 2 billion dollars on that airport, don't you think it would have been better to use that money to build a thermal power plant or assist century power to complete their 2,000mw power plant in Okija, at least, Anambra has gas deposits. Anambra can also invest in a 500mw wind power plant which will not even cost as much as 2 bn dollars.

Yes

Dat is good news.

The watch word should be Big investments by Multi-Nationals partnering Anambra State.

This is the best way to generate revenue for State project.

We are not against taxing Ndi-Anambra but Government should not depend on Ndi-Anambra tax or over- burden Ndi- Anambra tax payers.

The Gov should be incorporated with Big Business and heavily involved in joint ventures and having Anambra State business portfolio.

When you dont over burden the people with Tax, they will have money to spend on Big Business investing in the state.

e.g.

Shoprite wont have customers if Ndi Anambra dont have extra money to spend due to over taxation.

Shoprite will go into liquidation and close down.

The trickle down effect is more people become unemployed and unable to pay tax to government.

There are vital infrastructure that a state requires for success.

Cargo airport and passenger airport is such infrastructure.

We need operational Riverport and a Deep seaport either in Akwa Ibom or Bonny/Opobo Rivers.

Alongside good road networks/railway, u will discover that investors will even build your power plants once the area is accessible.

How can people just come out here and be talking trash. How will you be talking about reduction in the price of land in order to aid development. So, is land in Abuja, Lagos, PortHarcourt cheap? Why are they developing? My dear, if you don't have money for land, go and make money or you go to those places where they sell 70k and buy your so called cheap land. The high cost of land in Anambra is because of development and the price is still rising.

Abuja is the seat of power, it has something to offer. Portharcourt is the oil and gas hub of Nigeria, it has something to offer. Lagos is the business capital of Nigeria, it has something to offer. What has Anambra got offer investors? Nothing but average population size at best.

Like the Singaporeans did, lure the investors with little or no tax, when they get comfortable, do whatever you like because they can run no more.

Great idea but the over technicality that shrouds the Nigeria power sector probably makes it unattractive for the Chinese investors. Moreover, the Chinese rarely believe in partnership, they want absolute control. They would rather build a privately owned power project.

Anambra doesn't use its gas. Anambra doesn't have the biggest crude reserve in Nigeria. Other states also have human capital. Anambra state only has a retail market which many states also have.

You have to do more of rebranding the region to be economically viable for investors.

The gas is there whether being used or not. The world economy is going towards NATURAL GAS.

Anambra has the largest market in West Africa. There's no part of Nigeria with such concentration of human and material resources like the Main market Onitsha.

I never said Anambra has the largest oil reserve but Anambra has oil wells.

You don't have to devalue your land just because you want anyhow investors if not herdsmen will come in and buy the lands and turn it to cattle colony.

Yet Anambra revenue is far better than Osun State.

One thing you have to realise is that SW benefit from the proximity to Lagos and of course the oil revenue going round in Nigeria.

Today, 90% of all investment in Anambra are owned by Ndi Anambra and this includes the industry.

How many of the businesses and industry in Ogun are owned by Ogun people?

This is how we measure development.

Why have the same investors refused to build power plants in Lagos, Ogun, Rivers and Abuja? If Anambra state generates 2000 MW all for itself today, Anambra will receive more investors than the entire country in just 2 years. Do you know the number of small scale industries that will grow at a fast rate because of constant power? Thank God the Onitsha port will become functional this year. Never compare the benefits of constant power supply to airports in Nigeria.

I am of the opinion that Power station should be built to serve Business zone.

Geometric power plants not state wide power generation.

Anything being built should be with investors in mind becos that is where the state will eventually generate revenue.

Nice one. If Anambra state introduces a tax policy of 2 year free tax for foreign investors and 3 year free tax for indigenous investors, this will improve the ease of doing business in Anambra and it will bring about a massive rise in small and medium scale industries and draw in many foreign investors. Another thing that should be done is that the Anambra state government should give certificate of occupancy to land buyers at a fast rate.

Century power is owned by OnyeAnambra, if century power comes together with Orient petroleum, Anambra state government and other investors like capital oil, Enugu distribution company, seplat oil, atlas oranto etc, we will definitely achieve 2,000 MW in 3 to 4 years.

U touched on something that we have mentioned so many times on this site and got tired.

Y is it that Big business men in Igboland find it difficult to diverge into other equally profitable sector via joint partnership.

is it that they cannot work together?

You guys should stop differentiating between foreign investors and indigenous investors. The most popular tech and manufacturing companies that produce a wide variety of products in China are not owned by the Chinese such as Toshiba, Nokia, Samsung, Sony etc. The South west is enjoying influx of investments from investors because the region has been recorded to be the must productive and friendly region in Nigeria, they have Lagos state which brings the popularity for the SW.
Other regions have to revive their images most especially the east and the north. Most people believe that the east is insecure that is why its natives do not invest there even though statistics have shown that the east is the most peaceful region in Nigeria, that is why I said we need to revive our image.

Indigenous investors are far better than foreign investors.

Take IVM for example, he is prepared to bend over backwards and even reorganize his whole operation just to deliver Anambra specification for that unique anambra need.

No foreign investor will do that.

Foreign investors should be focused in areas of technological exchange, that is areas we dont have the technical know how expertise.

Constant power supply in Anambra and a power generation of 2000 MW will lead to the growth of every single business in Anambra from the pure water seller to the pure water manufacturer to every other big industry in the state. In fact, you will not believe the rate at which the Anambra state economy will grow within a short time, no wonder Century power is planning to build a 2000 MW power plant in Okija to serve the entire Anambra because Obi Jackson knows how much he will generate in return and how much it will boost the state's economy.

I agree but we must learn to distinguish fantasy from reality.

If we are talking power generation for the whole Anambra, the question is wat is the best means of generation sufficient power state wide?

Is it solar, wind, gas, biofuel, waste to energy conversion or building dam somewhere along the River Niger?

That is a major challenge, so we prioritise and focus on industrial areas for a start.

Development is a slow process wen u are short of funds, we do wat we can at the moment to grow the economy in other to do more tomorrow.

Its just unfortunate. It only take "love for ones land" for him or her to decide to build something of economic importance for the state. Igbo men love "one man business" that is why we have thousands of medium scale industries, even I myself find it difficult to request for financial assistance from anybody who has plans to own a share of business. Century power has been working on its power plant for over 2 years now and they are at 400 MW and still heading to 2000 MW, if other companies had brought in their inputs, they would have gotten to, at least 1000MW by now.

Maybe Obiano should be thinking of creating a platform for joint-partnership.

Actually inviting them to embark on joint-venture. Perhaps Anambra state should establish financial institution or building sociaty to that effect.

The state acts as a middle man or business broker.
