So, what is the change in our cities and environments? What is our governments doing to improve the infrastructural developments in our cities and towns? Do you see positive or negative changes? Do you think we are moving in the right direction? There are about 100 pictures I am going to attach from about 5 Igbo cities to evaluate our progress, or lack of it. I covered small areas in about 5 locations, namely; 1. Asaba 2. Nsukka 3. Awka 4. Enugu 5. Onitsha These pictures are very random, and cannot cover even 5% of each location, but we start somewhere first. Please note that Imo, Ebonyi and Abia states will follow soon. Igbo Amaka. Thanks. 7 Likes 1 Share |

spyder880: I've always been intrigued by Asaba and its environs. Have never visited the city before. Only pass by on the expressway when travelling to my village. The only time I spent a night at Isele-Ukwu (about 12 years ago) was a period of mourning, as I lost a dear one from a car crash along that Onitsha-Asaba highway. Nevertheless, I have always wanted to feel Asaba and what its got to offer. Thanks for the exposé you're about to post. 2 Likes 1 Share |

spyder880: Nice one Spyder. As to your question of whether our cities are moving in the right direction, i'd say there is some movement alright. The question is if said movement is at the desired pace and in the desired direction we want. Presently, i'd say our cities are making baby steps when they should be on a steady brisk walk....asking for a Usain Bolt sprint at this point in time is asking for the impossible considering the restricting political-economy we're operating under. If we're to get serious, we have to admit that we need a coordinated and concerted effort targeted at our cities to provide them with the necessary WORLD-CLASS infrastructure they need (trains; adequate power supply; intra/intercity roads and highways; environmental care: ie, parks, gardens and sewage/water-treatment system; adequate healthcare; quality schools; and serviced housing estates). This would cost billions of dollars, which is not realistic for now for the reason stated above. So, yes we're seeing improvements in our cities but they're not at the pace and quality required. If we want to be honest with ourselves, in this Nigeria we're in today, our cities at best can only be considered 2nd tier cities, coming only after the likes of Lagos and Abuja have been considered. 3 Likes |

spyder880: I have come to notice something interesting. Roads in Northern cities (Nsukka, Enugu, Abakaliki) in Igbo land tends to look more stable and solid in nature. And they last longer than those in some parts of southern Igbo land such as Aba, Onitsha and Owerri. I think it has a lot to do with the nature of the soil and weather. 4 Likes 1 Share |

horsepower101:Soil texture is the main issue here. In Ebonyi, there's nothing like erosion or wasteland, the soil is strong enough to hold anything. Nothing like cut off road by erosion. 2 Likes 1 Share |

spyder880:Asaba is a beautiful city with cool weather. The little problem I observed here that red soil which should have been covered through German floor. This is where I have to commend Dave Umahi of Ebonyi state, immediately he assumed office he directed every shops that's opposite any roads in the city to do German floor up to the edge of the road or loose ur office or shop. Today, there's nothing like red earth in the major Street of Abakaliki. I wish other states governors who have not do that to emulate this gesture. Our only problem is an open gutter or sewage...
