lol.....I last updated August 5th
Today is August 17th
Thats about two weeks ago, yet if you notice no one really complained or shouted for an update...why is that?
Bro my readers Know me well, I don't starve them with updates. I think this is the only story you're following the same time i'm writing so you may not really know that about me. I used to update on a daily bro, sometimes twice a day, once its possible time wise and flow wise what is stopping me?
How can I be trying to kill a story I started instead won't I just give it any kind of ending in one update?
Lol
no worries bro, like I said these past few weeks have been something else that's why. Please stay tuned cause it will definitely get better

Kirsten finally located a tuck shop on the ground floor of the hospital.
She bought some snacks and two bottles of water and on second thought added a can of energy drink. Clyde had really looked like he could do with some energy.
She on the other hand just needed to eat. Although the snacks were cold and didn't seem fresh but it was something at least.

She was already half way back up the stairs when she remembered the taxi driver.
He may also need something to eat.
Didn't he even have a family? What kind of wife would allow her husband stay out for 24 hours without even seeing him? Or maybe they spoke on the phone. People were different.....the fact that she couldn't do that didn't mean another wife wouldn't. Not like she even had a husband yet...

At first she had thought it was all about greed and was imagining the heavy bill the driver was going to slam on them but they had forgotten all about the man with everything that had been happening and the man hadn't come forward to complain or demand money.

She walked outside with the nylon bag full of pastry snacks and little filling. The Our Lady memorial hospital was in a nice hilly spot and gave a breathtaking view of the hills in the distance. Outside was also very cold and windy.
She swept the length of the park with her gaze, searching for the cream honda that had brought them to the hospital.

The car park of the hospital was well illuminated with streetlightsand Kirsten looked about searching for the car but it was gone.
She had spent few hours asleep in the back seat of the car right there....beside that ambulance but now the car was gone. Did the driver just leave without collecting his pay?Or perhaps he went home to the wife she had imagined earlier and would still be back?

She remained standing for some seconds until the cool early morning breeze made her rub her arms and shiver. It was cold out here!

She greeted a man in a nurse's uniform standing idly by the door and headed back inside.
She had better give Clyde his meatpie and lucozade boost before he died of hunger.

:::::::::::::::::::::

"My boy what is going on! What happened!"
My father boomed as we all piled into the car.

Me, Andy Dagnett Bami rushed into the car greatfully before he had even braked to a stop.

I automatically reached for the front door but there was someone slumped in the seat staring blankly at me with defeated and almost lifeless eyes.

I couldn't really recognize the face. A lot of things were growing on it and by things I mean nasty bruises.

So I remained standing while Bami, Andy and Dagnet filed into the backseat. To be honest I wasn't sure I could open the door. Now the news of my daughter's safety had settled in and I was still filled with anticipation no doubt but the pain was back. And with a vebgeance too!
The fact remained that my hands were burnt badly. I was shirtless and had few burn marks across my chest and back from rolling round the burning room. The letters that I had almost killed myself for was still in Bami's hands thankfully although now that Emma would be safe in my burnt hands soon I couldn't care less about their existence or contents for that matter.
My priorities were drastically realigning.
1. Get my daughter
2. Go be at my wife's side
3. Hunt down the crazy bitch who shot my wife and stole my daughter

Then maybe I'd check up on the letters....
If I felt like it.

"Hey boy....don't go zoning out on me again okay?" My dad had climbed out of the car and come around to my side. He looked at me worriedly "You look terrible son, but I'm here now....we're going to find Emma I promise-"

"Dad...."
But he didn't give me chance to talk. He was on a roll "I only wish you told us when this whole thing started in the first place instead of sending Olivia to hide out in Benue with Emma, you're fond of that every time...but anyway this your agent Buzz..."

"Actually dad...."
"....took me to the house and it seems she left in a hurry, I was still there when you guys called me so its possible I missed an important clue which would point us to where she would be now, immediately I got Andy's call I headed here immediately..."

I sighed impatiently and he broke off his monologue

"what...what is it?"
he asked finally

"Emma is safe...one of the agents is with her right now, heading for our headquaters"

"What! why didn't you say so!....." he shouted at me with excitement and accusation at the same time. "Get in get in......what's the address again?" he asked and swung the door open

I was about to ask about the beat up man in the front seat. He looked awefully farmiliar but I just gestured with my hands in a 'where will I sit' kind of movement.

"Ooooh" My dad grabbed the man by the collar and pulled him out of the car. He dragged him like a sack of beans to the rear of the car and opened the booth.

"My God..." I heard Dagnet gasp from the backseat

"hehe....you don't know Alli" Andy said

I remained standing, watching my dad stuff the man into the backseat. The man(Buzz) didn't even protest. His spirit had been broken and rebroken. Alli no joy could do that to you. I mean I was a grown man over 30 but I was still secretly scared of my father. Who wouldn't?

I suddenly remembered Tonye telling me someting about Buzz helping Fome to break into the house and kidnap Emma, my brain must have been drugged and fuzzy when she told me but I could still remember something like that. I was about to ask my father but a voice shouted suddenly;
"And what is that?! You this Rex.....who is that...? you people are kidnapping someone in the presence of a police officer?! So the ritualist rumours are true?!"

It was the foolish constable Danga.

He hurried towards our car but when my dad slammed the booth shut and straightened, the man stopped and began speaking into the walkie talkie strapped on his shoulder.

"hello 10-4 do you copy....roger I have a serious situation out here sir...."

"Who is this clown?" my dad echoed my earlier question.

"He's not important. let's go dad" my body was shaking just as Emenike had been vibrating earlier before he got his 'fix'
I needed my own fix, a fix for my bruised soul;
My daughter was waiting!
My wife was waiting
!

I got into the car but my dad didn't. Instead he walked towards the police officer. "Who are you calling a ritualist?!" I heard him bark at the cop

"Shit!" Bami and Andy hurried out of the car but I remained inside. To be honest I was seriously considering driving off and leaving them to continue their drama but I wasn't sure I could handle the steering effectively.

"Relax Rex....when Sparrow called me he was still on the road, I'm sure we'll get there the same time or maybe even before him" Dagnet called from the back seat. She must have read my thoughts perfectly. It was strange that I hated her the first time I met her, it felt like ages ago....she was actually a very good person.....

Thwack!
A sharp cracking sound had me craning my neck just in time to see the constable go down from a mean right hook from my father.
I shook my head in dismay.
What was wrong with this man sef? His blood was always hot, too hot!

At the same time, the two police men ran out from the building with their guns drawn.

Immediately Andy and Bami had their pistols drawn too.

"Shit!" Dagnet rushed down from the car with her gun drawn too.

It felt like an art class suddenly...

The next few seconds was a very akward stand-off between the men of the law i.e the metro police department versus the men of......well officially we were the men of the law too, a greater degree actually but when it came right down to it, we were men of ourselves. Looking after ourselves. Bleep everything else.

I watched the standoff with disgust as both parties shouted for the other to stand down. My physical state didn't allow me do the things I wanted, like drive away, cross my hands in disgust or rest my head on my hand with my lips turned down condescendingly.
So instead I looked at the back seat and stretched gently till I grabbed the envelope. Bami had left it on the backseat when he rushed out.

I shook my head slowly in disapproval then observed the stand off still going on.
My father didn't even have a gun yet his voice was the loudest. He was shouting for the two men to put their weapons down and walk away.
Dagnet was pleading for the senior detective to comply. She kept on saying "Femi you know this is wrong...."

I ignored them and switched on the inner light.

The envelope was big and brown. Manilla type. the bottom half had been burnt completely but hopefully the content was still salvagable.

I dug into the envelope from the charred end and pulled out a single sheet of paper. It wasn't what I expected. I had expected something more bulky. It had been burnt on one end
still I could see the typed words clearly.
The message was very clear indeed.
both front and back.
SHIT!!!!

Rex Obasi is a golden fool
Rex Obasi is a golden fool
Rex Obasi is a golden fool
Rex Obasi is a golden fool
Rex Obasi is a golden fool

SHITTT!!!!

The bloody shadow must have switched the contents before he set it on fire. I could only hope the Sparrow guy was really with my daughter and it wouldn't matter that I had failed if not.....
Oh God, I was a dead man.

Bleep this rubbish!
I was about to slide into the driver seat and drive off to the agency but the back door opened and my colleagues piled in pumped with adrenaline.

"My God Rex, your father is really something....he's so fearless" Dagnet said.
"Not fearless.....foolish" I snapped
"Woa take it easy man, whats up with you?" Bami said
In reply I threw the paper at him.

They were quiet as they read the declaration of my golden fool status.

"You know what man, it doesn't matter.." Andy said "the main thing is that we got Emma, that's all that matters"

"But we don't have her yet do we? My God where is this man na!" I couldn't keep my voice from rising

In reply my dad slid into the driver's seat.
He started the car immediately and dropped a shiny object on the dashboard.
It was his dagger.

"Sorry about that boy, I just had to make sure those fools won't have air in their tyres if they decide to follow us"
I didn't reply.

My dad accelerated and sped off going well past the speed limit, whatever it was.

Every now and then I would swallow a little spit and try to force my heart back down my throat.

I prayed for my sweet innocent daughter. I prayed that she would be safe and waiting for me and wouldn't suffer further for the mistakes of her father.

Vroooooooom!!
Vrroooooooom
Vroooooom!!!!

AAAAAAArrrrrgrggggghhhhhhhhh!!!!!

It happened in slow motion.

Bigelow charged at the incoming bike with red eyes and much fury, shouting like a mad man.
Then the windscreen suddenly cracked, just a few inches above his eye level and in a milli second he realized the bastard was shooting at him.
What's more, the shadow jerked his front tire up, balancing only on the rear and reducing himself as a target.
Bigelow slid down just in time as another shot cracked his windscreen and lodged deep in his chair just inches above his head.

That was when he swung his door open and rolled out of the speeding car.
All these happened in less than three seconds, three agonizingly slow seconds and suddenly everything speeded up.

The hilux and the power bike collided with a loud crash, Bigelow hit the floor, shoulder first then rolled once, twice, thrice.....then it slowed down again. It seemed God was having fun with the remote control or maybe it was all in Bigelow's head, maybe the adrenaline level had reached the highest point that he was so supercharged everything else was slow.....
Maybe it was all in his head because the shadow was flying.
Flying like a bird.

The man or superman must have also jumped from his power bike before the impact and he was rolling on the air, doing cartwheels over the skidding truck and bike like some kind of deity.

There's a saying that the birds have learnt to fly without perching ever since the hunter learnt to shoot without reloading. But all Bigelow needed was just a bullet. Just one shot!

He brought the gun up as he rolled over, the angle and his positioning shooting an unbelievable pain through his arm but he didn't feel it, not yet. For one bloody second, time stood still. The shadow remained still in the air like a photograph or a video frozen in the frame. Or maybe really God had hit the pause button on the remote, meaning it was now or never.....Bigelow closed one eye and let out a deep breath.
The breath he had dragged deep in agony when he knelt down crying over his brother's dead body.
The breath was full of pent up rage and regret and helplessness
It was a dragon's breath...

As he released the breath, he released the .50 caliber bullet from his gun.

The sound was deafening and everything stood still for a full second, the shadow remained suspended in the air, defying gravity.

Then he dropped.
He dropped like a bird and landed in the booth space of the hilux truck.

Perfect.

The hunter didn't need to reload after all.

Everything speeded up suddenly. Bigelow rolled over two more times and he suddenly felt the pain from where he had obviously sprained his shoulder.

He got to his feet slowly and approached the truck carefully with his gun infront of him.

When he got to the back of the truck and stared down at the body, he put his gun away.

The shadow had a hole the size of a boiled egg in his face. It had shattered his helmet and totally drilled deep into his forehead.
The man was dead. No two ways about it.

He thought of searching the body but he was suddenly aware of where he was; On the road. The semi busy road of Lagos.
This is Nigeria
This is Lagos
There was always someone watching.

He looked around hastily and true enough a couple had parked their car to the side and were videoing him.

What was the problem with people? All they could think about was updating their timeline, even in the face of danger or tragedy, no common sense, no fear, no empathy.

He pointed his gun in their direction and the man and woman screamed and lay down flat immediately.

He sighed in disgust then got into the truck and reversed furiously, climbing over the power bike which had dragged under the front tyres after the impact.

Last last, engine was different from engine.
engine ya to' si engine

He suddenlt felt a chilly presence and heard the voice he loved and missed so much
'thank you bro.....'

He felt like shutting his eyes and crying. A tear did roll down his cheeks but instead he nodded and performed a 360 turn.
Finally he said "Rest in peace brother....till we meet again"
He finally had closure.

Ryan Bigelow, a counter terrorsim special agent, not specially skilled or specially dangerous in any way had killed the tallest shadow. The last shadow standing. The real shadow.

And he was driving the body to his headquaters.
The BROTA headquaters.
