Absolutely nothing wrong about It, most appropriate posture to adopt at that point in time for a couple of reasons:

(1) If he stood up, he would be blocking the view of others.

(2) if he stood up, people can read his lips

(3) if he stood up, both their voice levels will be high in order to hear each other

(4) if he stood up, he becomes a distraction to people seeking to concentrate on happenings in front
