DSSC officers can attain any rank as long as age, service year, are on your side and importantly you pass promotional courses.

Light armoured pick-up trucks are not good enough. They don't protect against anything.

If you allow the enemy get in to the close range of 300 meters where his AK is in effective firing range, then your entire defence tactics has failed.

A pick up truck like the Proforce ICV should only be used as a survelliance vehicle for Intel gathering.
You mean the one deployed by the Airforce is the NE right?

Sabotage, tribalism, unpatriotism and lack of harmony among africans makes slavery successful.
If all tribes at that time comes together to fight the invaders
I swear Europeans have no chance.
Mind u there is nothing called African bulletproof pre slavery times, Bringing of guns by the Europeans is what leads to the invention of bulletproof.

Worthy of mention is the Zulus, they defeated the British hands downs in battle, so did the Ethiopians against the Italians(they were never colonised). Even in Nigeria the Arochukwu/ekumeku warriors dealt with the British soldiers using guerilla tactics until they(Arochukwu) fell in 1904.

That's not correct. The ARA was designed to accommodate both an RWCS and a manned station.
Maybe a 7.62mm, 12.7mm or at most .50 cal but mounting a 20mm cannon will definitely unbalance the vehicle, significant remodification will have to take place.

And then there's the issue of gun depression for extreme short range engagement.

I could be wrong though.

Bro the 25mm Bush Master is not that long nw undecided

In fact, should be same length with most 50.cal and the Russian 12.

Though it is extremely heavier.

Do you know how center of gravity work?

This is a naval Oerlikon 20 mm cannon, i think we have in our inventory. So imagine it atop the Ara.

The barrel length ain't bad for the ARA.

But You right bro. It will be too heavy for the ARA.
And to even think Henry240 is talking about a miniature ARA cheesy

But then we don't even know the total weight of our ARA... So we may be wrong

Again you are wrong.

Here is the Nexter TITUS MRAP, armed with a 25mm RWCS cannon with a 7.62mm co-axial machine gun.

This is exactly what my comment is refering to.

Henry240:
I have actively followed, reported, researched and contributed to military topics for the last 10 years. This is an area i'm well versed in.

Your claim was on APC, now you have moved to AMVs. Do you know how much a standard AMV like the Patria or Boxer costs?

Let us be very realistic, i brought up the Colombian and Mexican militaries because they also heavily use Pick-up trucks. It is a matter of necessity, cost and logistic support.

The Patria or Boxer standard AMV will not go lower than 1.5 - 3 million dollars a unit. Do we have that kind of money or the defence budget to support that?

Yes, MRAPs are very important, and we need lots of them, however we cannot afford to move all the soldiers deployed in the northeast in MRAPs, only few countries in the world can deploy all armoured infantry.

Insurgents develop IEDs that can rip apart 19 ton MRAPs, we've seen multiple videos which proof this. No MRAP will protect Nigerian troops against 23mm rounds.

The best method of defeating an IED is detection and demolition.

What we should instead be focusing on is a good mix of MRAPs and Soft-skins. 6 MRAPs to 4 Hilux vehicles. We would have the right amount of protection and mobility with this.

We desperately need IFVs, that's what we are lacking. However even these like i earlier stated are not cheap, the Republic of South Africa has the struggling to procure 200+ IFVs for a good number of years now.

What we really need is not to replace the Toyota Hilux with MRAPs, what we require is a very good mix of MRAPs, Toyota Hilux armed with 14.5mm HMG or 23mm and IFVs.

As the Russians saw in Syria, pick-up trucks can be very effective in combat. Even the Turks deploy 23mm HMGs on pick-up trucks.

A standard SOP can be developed to guide the deployment of these vehicles in the Nigerian military.
How are we struggling?? besides the cost being higher than expected the actual production is on schedule.

Badger programme delayed due to money troubles at Denel
by Guy Martin, July 27, 10:07 am

The Hoefyster project, tasked with delivering a range of Badger infantry combat vehicles to the South African Army, has been delayed due to Denel's liquidity crisis.

fair enough, but this is fairly recent news so still don't get how we have been struggling for years.

Say we had a minimum of this per convoy paired with a Russian Bpm 97 and or BMP 2/Marder (German retired ifv - if they'll sell) and the hilux or Innosons military type jeep. Ied are probably inevitable but they can be managed if deployed with certain tactics. I think every hilux should have its own 12.5mm at the back rather than making it as another seating outpost for soldiers. (they easily become hit when ambushed)

If possible, soldiers should be allowed to add modifications to their vehicles if deemed necessary.

If wishes were horses, I'd have said the Israeli NAMERS as the best examples for our soldiers but...I think it'd be interesting what Proforce/army may be able to do with a BMP chassis if the funds are there.
