So I was waiting to get my official scores to ensure any info I was putting out won’t be incorrect.

I took my GRE on Aug 10th at JKK house and scored a 326 ( V167, Q159), AWA 4/6.

The following materials helped with my study;
Verbal
- Magoosh GRE flashcards ( I used this while in the bus, boring meeting, toilet, intact any free time I had)
- Manhattan 5lb. The RC is really damn good and exposes you to all the tricks you will need on tests day. The RC and TC are good too.
- Official materials. The other books focus on heavily on vocabulary but the official materials helps you learn usage of words. Keep an eye on the tips in the sentences so as to know the right word to use in that context.

Quant
- Manhattan 5lbs. Go through all the questions here. It pays to review thoroughly any question you got wrong.
- Official materials. The questions here are good too.

It will also be good to point out that I was already studying for GMAT before switching to GRE. That helped with the quant and RC in verbal.

Practice tests are quite important. I took the two powerprep tests and also bought Manhattan practice tests (has about 6 tests).

Finally I will love to say something about registration. I know it saves money to register with the guys that do it at a low price but again consider this what if you run into problems with that and your account gets blocked. Between the trouble of having your account blocked which means you might no longer realize your American dream and the extra naira you might pay for registration, which is worth it.

Let’s keep sharing our experiences so others can learn. The things I read on this thread greatly aided with my preparations.

Congrats bro. You are one of the people with highest score on verbal section. if your Quant section was like 169 or 168, menh, them go just de rush you.

Secondly, based on logic and facts... Ponpon had never had issues registering people for these kinds of exams, at least not in recent times. Also the gentle man makes himself available right on time should one have any issues.

First check for schools in USA offering your intended or a related course.
Then check for the admission requirements to know which of GRE /TOEFL/GMAT is/are required.

ok bro. thanks .just saw university of Nebraska omaha for masters in pol science. gre not required but can be submitted. then etsu and Stephen austin state university don't need gre for masters in history. I think they are cool. but ill search for more.

Search for more schools and go for the ones that best parallel your interest and profile.

I'm an undergraduate student, engineering, 400l, hopefully graduating next year. I'm on 4.7+. I'm planning to take GRE Oct, in fact I'm registering with BY Mafit today. But seriously I don't know if I'm taking steps in the right direction, like am I not being too forward? What are your advice people? I'm looking at going for a direct PhD US/Canada.

Why not wait till you graduate first, you can take the GRE during your NYSC. You can be making research on schools you would like to go to. Also, if you can try to write a paper in the course of your BEng project, that helps a lot too.
I am also looking at going for my PhD, but I'm waiting to be done with my masters first.

Anfieldboss, the thing is I don't want to explore NYSC option. I have co-written a paper with one of my lecturers, and I'm on the second one. Also, I have a poly cert and I'm currently working full-time, this I have been doing with school. I just don't want to waste anytime at all. Thanks for the swift response.

Wow thanks. I have started studying for the GRE, I am planning on doing it Oct. All the comments here gave me a head start. Also planning for TOEFL by Nov, preparing for both together though. But GRE has much intensity.

I think the biggest challenge with taking the GRE is the fact that it requires serious self-study; self-discipline and accountability. It would be nice to have a group where we can all encourage one another and the spirit of discipline can rub off on all of us!
