A body has been found under the rubble of the Abuja collapsed building in Jabi, Abuja on Friday bringing the casualty figure to three.

The corpse of Sadiq Aliu was recovered during the ongoing evacuation of debris from the site around 10 am on Monday.

Aliu’s corpse was about being evacuated to the morgue when his relatives insisted on interring him at the cemetery in accordance with Islamic rites.

Six injured persons and one dead victim were evacuated from the site hours after the structure came down, while another worker who escaped with injuries later died of internal wounds at Gwarimpa General Hospital.

The FCT Minister, Mallam Muhammad Bello, had directed the rescue team to resume operation at the site following concerns that there could still be victims under the rubble.

The Federal Capital Territory Administration and the National Emergency Management Agency had on Saturday ended the rescue operation after six injured persons and one corpse were evacuated.

But relatives of the victims had protested the decision of the government, insisting that about 18 workers were still trapped under the rubble.

The site engineer, Friday Alu, who was rescued on Friday, was said to be in the intensive care unit at Cedarcrest Hospital, Apo.

It was learnt that the FCT Emergency Management Agency officials were not allowed access to him when they called to know how they could be of assistance.

It was further gathered that the other four victims who sustained minor injuries had been discharged from Gwarimpa Hospital where they were taken to by relatives and friends.

They were too quick to call the rescue over. This is the kind of service agencies of Government perform. No thoroughness in service. Imagine if those Thai children incident had been in Nigeria. They would have said nobody is in the cave. Leah Sharibu is still out there in the cold.

The family member said someone is still trapped but police and rescue team said no thereby sending everyone away forces by teargassing them. what a con3! sad.

That collapsed building could be a result of bribing officials of FCT Development Control to look away from structural malfunctions. It is well!

When people where protesting that there are still people trapped in the rubble, the zoo's police tear gassed them. And the so call rescue team said no one is trapped again. Now see this!

The most religious people on earth, can you see their handwork..........

Your fellow human beings are trapped in a collapsed building, and there is no iota of care to ensure that everything possible is done to rescue them.....we even have to protest and shout to get them to act right......na wa ooo

We are our own worst enemies.....this is not even a case of government, its just the mentality of the people, this i don't care attitude...

Our search and rescue capabilities is still below average. So sad

When people protested about the incompetence of our wack rescue officers and that they weren't doing enough to rescue the trapped victims, our ever useless and clueless govt claimed to have evacuated all the victims.

Chai, can Nigeria ever get anything right?

Nice piece, but what happens when you submit your project for approval and somebody only wants "money-in-hand" before authorizing. In this case the agency does not even review your documents, just pay as you go

That's one factor that discourages builders from doing the right thing.
