*Few Highlights from the Awareness seminar held in Ikeja Airport Hotel, Lagos*

1. On screen marking simplify things and make possible to have exams 4 times a year.

2. Once an exam is finished the script is scanned and hosted in cloud to prevent theft and fire. Strict supervision using on screen marking.

3. The marking process is faster with on screen marking than conference marking thereby reducing the exam result releasing process .

4. Syllabus changes:

Foundation is computer based.
Business QT is removed.
Replaced with taxation

Skills.
Question 1 is 40 marks and compulsory.
The rest are 20 marks to answer 3 out of 5.
Reading time of 15 mins included.

Taxation removed from skills and dropped to foundation.

MGE changed to Corporate strategic management and ethics.

Professional.
Just like skills in mode of exam.
But no change in courses.


5. Ican holders is equivalent to ICAEW of England and Wales. 5 years post qualification proven experience is needed for that.

6. And now ICAN is made higher in level and grade than ACCA. ICAEW fact finding team made their report concerning it and are signing a *full reciprocal* arrangements with ICAN to obtain their ACA membership *without writing any exams.*

7. Immediate Past President of ican spoke of "My ican page" to help track post qualification experience for easy prove. it will be available soon.

8. ICAN soon to get its own university. In the pipeline.

9. The disciplinary measures.

10. Sequel to the new syllabus, for case study, the students would get the case 2 weeks before the exam to prepare ahead and the restriction of not more than 15 pages had been removed (i.e the question can be as much as 20 it more pages or less).

Which country does ICAN Grant you exemptions in again I don't think I can recall? Oh I remember now it's in zero counties but it does frant you exemptions for ACCA right ?

Now this answers the question of one having the audacity to compare ICAN to ACCA . iCAN is just a joke and waste of funds if you ask me

Don't get it wrong... really we have ICAN members collecting such fees and also we have ACA/FCA earning millions of Naira too. Let me tutor you are little the relevance of Accounting can NEVER fade away inasmuch as the business world exist....IT rules the world rightly but only professionals in their respective fields can key into it.

Canada is a country not countries.


ACCA is globally recognized and with it you can work in many countries

pls Mr Hopebringer, am an accounting graduate but didnt see the need for certification because I don't see myself practising as am a budding entrepreneur with my own business. I even look forward to employe an accountant very soon.
in your thinking, what certification/training should I undergo to have a balanced view about business more? am thinking about Institute of management Accountant (which I don't think functions in Nigeria) and cpa.

I have ACA. The truth is bitter. Check the numbers of Chartered Accountant ICAN and ANAN is producing besides CIMA and ACCA. The supply exceeds the demand thus making the pay low. If our universities can update themselves with up to date syllabus an average graduate would be able to perform what the CAs are doing.

My background is accounting from secondary to uni to ACA. I'm not saying don't go for ICAN or ACCA; go if you can but note that ICAN, ACCA and auditing firms are destroying the accounting profession. Every Dick and Harry is now a Chartered Accountant. Firms are looking for value you add to their organisation not just your title. I gain jobs with my knowledge of my CCNA skills together with my accounting certs before other candidates with only accounting skills.

But in all honesty people pass ACCA more than ICAN.
The limiting factor for many of us is money.

I have friends that can't even stand me; and they are all ACCA qualified
I'm not trying to say ICAN is difficult too!
I plan getting my ACCA later on
