Thanks opted for an airline that goes from Nigeria to Paris to Vancouver then Calgary. Didn't want to risk the Frankfurt Heathrow route as that leg of the journey might be a domestic flight. Thanks a lot

I don't know what you mean. But, they recognize any original valid license either new or old.
If your license is original(biometric), the date of first issue will be carried over from previous license. If not, it will carry the date they issue the new one.
Either way, the earlier the better because you would need a 12month experience on the license to be able to skip the waiting period.
One thing I am sure of is that your license that expired Feb 2018 will be useless next year.

Hi, I wouldn't use the word 'easy' I would rather just ask, how best do I get an apartment in Canada?

That being said, there have been numerous advices and experiences shared here in this forum. I would recommend you read backwards to catch up on the nuggets of wisdom that people have shared on this issue and you will be better prepared to house hunt when you land. People have been able to find accommodation without having a Canadian job or credit history. A complete lack of references might be an issue though for some landlord/building managers.

In summary, the whole process could involve the use of AirBnB, checking online vacancies, using rental magazines available here at major bus stops and shopping centres as well as word of mouth. You might be fortunate that someone here could provide a lead to you once you know where you're landing and you reach out.

I am inclined to believe that if you have the frsc biometric license and that is the license thay has expired and you are renewing it, your date of 1st issue would not change on the renewed license. So, this means that your driving experience is retained. I think that it's when the old Nigerian non-biometric license is renewed and a new biometric license is issued that the date of 1st issue changes.
Everyone I know who has renewed their expired biometric license has the date of 1st issue unchanged. If anyone has a different experience, please share. See photo attached. Looping Newmum0615

The old one would be cancelled. you cannot have two licences running in the system. So you can either request to have a reissue for your licence to continue till the date of expiry of the old one or you reissue and its starts a fresh date from the date of the reissue.

You can change from your GBP to CAN in naija. Very well. Just ask those BDC guys. I see CAN all the time

I plan to do a short landing (11 days) and return to Nigeria afterwards.

If you are going through more than one schegen country, you need a schegen visa.

The bolded is correct.

If you have the old license and intend to renew, a fresh process of a license will be done for you and the date of the first issue will be the date your new license was produced. Note that you will go through driving school and all the other process.
When requesting for Driving records, references are made from the date of the first issue.

You could also do some of these;
1. Open a Bank acccount.
2. Get a prepaid line since you won't be staying long. I got Chatr.
3. Check out areas you would want to live. Some estate mgt let you register ahead.
4. Try the driving knowledge test.
5. If you're in Ontario, try visiting the Niagara falls or Ripples aquarium
6. Get a Presto bus card. It will save you alot of money than Uber. You only have to plan your journey ahead. Google map shows the routes and departure time.
7. Take a passport photo and leave with family there just incase IRCC request for another passport photo.
8. Attend some newcomers services. You can register for most online.
9. Get a local Library card.
10. Watch TV and get some rest.
11. Do some shopping.

Enjoy your stay.

Registering a car or getting license plates are done at the registries. There is usually one within the community where you live. Google license and registry around xyz and it should pop up their contact info. Insurance companies in my experience cater to everyone. However everyone gets charged different premiums. As you wouldn't have any Canadian driving experience, you would most likely get charged slightly higher. Check out TD insurance. A phone call to get a quote should do the trick. Have your VIN number on hand though.
