Good evening everyone, So I am advising my younger sister to study further in Canada (rather than the Uk that she originally intended). She has a 2.2 in her Bachelors Degree in Pure & Applied Physics.

She currently works in Marketing/Business management in a reputable organization. I read somewhere on here that the Canadian Immigration rarely grant a visa for Postgraduate Diploma courses as it's difficult to prove that the candidate will leave at the end of their study.

How true is this, considering that she is unable to do a masters without doing a pgd due to her bachelors degree being a 2.2

I'll appreciate any/every advice I can get. Thanks

Frankrobbn1 is doing a great work here and must be commended. I had a disagreement with him/her initially but truth be told, he is well grounded in this Canadian student visa thread.
Keep it up sir.

Very true! He is well grounded in it and really needs to be commended!

Well, whether undergrad, PG, or Masters; in fact, PHD, applicants would always have to prove reasonably that they would leave Canada after their authorized stay. So, it's not a question for PGD applicants alone.

To me personally, if you can't prove or argue that you would leave Canada after completing PGD, you hardly can prove same for masters. Just get your acts together and work on any of the following as possible ways of convincing the VO.

1. Family ties (parents, spouse, siblings)

2. Job or work (if applicable)

3. Career prospect at home if 2 above isn't applicable. As in, you have to justify the huge sum you are about to expend on a PGD. Is there a booming job here in your field that you think can offset the cost?

4. Relationship (are you engaged if not married?)

5. Have you traveled and returned before? That's a good point too.

6. You've got a landed property? Get it surveyed in your name.

7. Prayer. I'm sorry I put this last; it should actually be the first. You can include all these things and the VOs would still say they aren't satisfied. And guess what? With God, you can satisfy a vo with *just* one of it.

Please take point 7 very seriously and give all your very best in gathering the appropriate documents. Once this is done, swing to action and God's grace would fill up the rest.

*Before I close; never use your 2.2 as an argument for settling for PGD.* Shalom!

Truly Number 7 is a great point. You really can satisfy a VO with just one, not all of the things stated. It’s advisable to concentrate on your strongest tie and drive it home to the VO. You can talk about your other ties that is fine because you don’t know which one would work. But find one, the one you think is the strongest, narrow your application on it and drive that point to the VO. That one tie should be theme of your application. It should be one that if a second party is reading through your application, he or she can easily pinpoint and unmissable. With God’s help it will fly. Really just one strong tie can satisfy a VO. Best wishes to everyone.

Do a google search for Gcms notes and go with the most reputable option of your choice. Or if you have someone in Canada, use this site’s approved link:

Wow! Thanks so much for your detailed explanation dedecoder! I sincerely appreciate you for taking the time to write this out. Respect! You are right about prayers. Its super important too.

In your last sentence, you mentioned to "never use 2.2. as an argument for settling for PGD. Are you saing this in regards to when filling out documentation to be submitted to the VO?

Or do you mean that with a 2.2, it's possible to apply for a masters degree?

Gurus in the house, I'm a bachelor's degree holder of electrical engineering but immediately I rounded off my NYSC, i have been teaching so I did a PGDE and came out with good grade,I want to apply for a masters in education since it's align with my work experience. Does Canadian universities grant admission to Master's program in education with a PGDE in education? Also will The VO raise any flag on visa issues. Please anyone who have an idea should let me know before I proceed.

I don't think your assertions concerning the subject matter is right. I know of an applicant who faced same problem. It was her first application and she was only promoted to pay for the visa application fee of 150CAD but weren't able to pay for her biometrics fee of 85CAD. Though, what she did was to send a CSE to the London and Lagos visa office using the attached email address. Thereby, quoting her name and her application number as the mail subject, explaining to them the issue on ground.
lagos.immigration@international.gc.ca
LDNIMMIGRATION@international.gc.ca

Later on, an email correspondence came in indicating that there was an update in her MyCiC account. When she logged in, she saw the biometrics letter and an attached link in it. She clicked on the link and was taken to a fresh page where she inputed her debit card details and was finally able to complete her biometrics payment of 85CAD.

I'll advice you do same too. Because, right now your application is pending until the receipt of your finger prints by the Visa Office.

Frank frank.....you see some people know the right thing they will not do it...instead they will keep asking questions that is clear and simply........look at this senario I was filling an online application for someone we both sat and I was reading it to her and I told her to give me answer YES or NO......and I notice like 3 to 4 last question cic asked have you done biometric for the past 10 years....and she was refused last year I told her to click yes....and she was charged 150CAD........

Please for first-timer if you asked have you taken biometric in the last 10 years click NO and 230cads will pop up....

Most Canadian Universities don't require GRE for admission. If there is no trace of GRE on their website, they probably don't require. To be sure you can shoot them an email to verify.

Please after I receivd details about my biometrics on my online status, I haven't heard from the embassy till now, I did my biometrics on the 10th of June I was expecting they should have asked me to bring my passport by now, the school which I applied for would be starting 1st September, I don't know what to do.if the school resumes, will my application still be in progress or they would cancel it because the school started? I want to know please if resumption of school can stop my Visa processing.

Thanks.....

Hello House,

I appreciate the work everyone here has been doing. I want to seek some information and I'll appreciate help:

1. I got PhD admission with full funding of over $24,000. The funding covers my tuition plus bi-weekly stipends. Do I still need to show proof of fund at the embassy? Must I have the $10,000 cost of living proof?

2. What is the estimate like for cost of visa, medicals and air flight. What should I budget to finish all the other processes.

3. I'm asking this third question for a friend. Can a public figure or leader stand as a financial sponsor?

1. International students advisors will always tell you never to rely on cash you haven’t seen so you stil need to show enough cash for the cost of living through a sponsor and additional if your going with kids.

2. I would say approx. half a million depending on on how far you have to go to get documents and which city you will be going to , Also if your booking is done of or within peak period

3. Well very yes as long as he has enough finance to cover expenses then she is good to go
I actually feel it may help the vetting process

The resuming of your school this September won't stop the processing of your application rather your application will still be in progress, the only thing is that the visa officer might request for a new admission letter from you that's for January intake if your school do have January intake , so don't worry

Thank you sir for taking time to answer my questions. I'm sorry to bother you with more but I have to ask.

1. In the case of a sponsor, what amount would be needed, in Naira terms, for a candidate like me who has funding. And do I need to have a minimum balance on my personal bank account? Can my father, who is a university Professor here in Nigeria, stand as my sponsor? (I don't think he has up to 2m in his account as of now though).

2. Thanks for this estimate, it'll help me in budgeting. Again, how much should I budget as cash at hand when going? And do I get a place from here or do so when I get there?

3. For the public figure part, would there be any need to show proof of relationship or anything of sorts? Because the sponsor is not related to the person. He's just a public leader in the Niger Delta.

Thank you once again sir for your time.
