Lots of Lagosians have taken up jogging in the early mornings, but there are hazards associated with jogging on Lagos streets. Some people have been knocked down by cars, while a few others have been kidnapped. The commander of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos State Police Command, Chief Superintendent Tunji Disu, has provided some safety tips for early morning runners, joggers and walkers. https://mobile.twitter.com/TunjiDisu1/status/1033294880255238145

Some dogs ignore people jogging, others only bark and then there are those that will come close to see if you will run. Only one dog ever dared to charge at me during morning jogging. I threw a kick at the dog and even though I missed, the breeze from the kick made the bingo retreat and it decided to mind it's business. 8 Likes |

What about the toxic Air in Nigeria? Why not recommend an air filter breathing mask? And please only jog at Schools or some Sports Training center, this is Nigeria please not some Human Inhabited Geographical area in the west, if u jog on the roads well.........,life have tire everybody here anyways 1 Like |

Jog against traffic. Wear glow trainers or bright colored sportswears. Don't use closed back headphones on roads with heavy traffic. Carry pepper spray (for women). Lots of idiots move about in the early morning looking for where to plug their chargers 9 Likes |

Some say carry your phone with you while jogging. Some say don't take your phone with you while jogging. One of the best tips for jogging in my view is to have a jogging partner or partners. 9 Likes |

Avoid busy roads. Be self conscious of your surroundings. Jog on the walkway facing on-coming traffic. If you prefer to jog in the dark, do it in pairs and alway use routes with "working" street lights. let family/friends be aware of your jogging routes. Carry I.D Always be conscious of the nearest safe, soft landing surface around you, in case any on-coming vehicle is doing lau lau. 2 Likes |

Even jogging against the traffic in Nigeria, you are not safe. We have some drivers that are suffering from schizophrenia, they need mental evaluation, they will intentionally drive behind you.
