I had my visa interview on August 11th, 2018 at US Consulate in Abuja but my application was placed on Administrative Processing so as to verify my father's bank statement. Please who else is in this condition or had this experience? How do banks verify the bank statement?
have you been issued your visa finally?

You can contact your account officer to check if your is the one delaying the process. I work as a contact center consultant with a bank in Nigeria, a particular embassy sent a SOA for us to verify, but due to backlogs no one responded to the email. The embassy decided to call, I happened to pick the call and I ensured I contacted the customers home branch and responded to the embassy within 4hours verifying the authenticity. Liaise with your bank to see if that is pending with them.

had my interview on the same day too. They took my SOA Placed me on AP. I still de wait just like you.

I am not God neither am I a VO but you will have a hard time convincing a VO that your friends will ACTUALLY sponsor you. However, do you have assistantship? Are your friends really going to pay your tuition? How do you plan to pay Tuition and fees?

Thanks for your response. No my friends will not actually sponsor me. I used their statements for my i20. I do not have any assistantship yet. I plan to pay for my tuition from personal savings.

I can actually call them my uncles just that as much as possible I really want to be transparent.

It's quite a while I've been here. I don't think you can transfer to another school or transfer your SEVIS no more. There was supposed to be an adjustment of law regarding F1 on this matter this past august 9th by uscis. Kindly check and verify it cos i didn't follow up thereafter. I'm studying here in Arkansas. Congratulations once more to you.

If I were you I'd take the SAT again. You still have about 3 years to spend in the University, who knows how difficult it'll be to get a student visa 3 years from now. If you've read visa transcripts from 2012 till now you'd have noticed the how easy it was to get a U. S student visa in 2012 compared to now. I can assure you it'll be far more difficult 3 years from now.
The most important thing is not losing focus on your ongoing studies here. I know someone that was in a similar situation that skipped a semester because he was so sure he was going to travel, he ended up having an extra year.

I would love to retake the SAT but since finance seems to be an issue at the moment. I'll focus on my studies here so as not to lose on both sides.

Thank you Sir

Oga, if you are confident of acing the SAT this time around, shoot me a PM.

I am confident for you because I believe your undergraduate experience has enhanced your knowledge since the last time you took the test.

Thank you.

Thumbs up on the great work going on here. Two years back, I was seeking help concerning undergraduate admission into U.S schools and I was advised by Walspring and Lagosismyhome at the time(i.e @ part 10 of this thread). I was 16 then and I was seeking full-time ride scholarships as my parents aren't financially buoyant. I was told I had to score high on the SAT cos my high school GPA isn't so impressive(3.38) while my waec GPA is 3.33, unfortunately I performed poorly(1150/1600). I went on to apply in an attempt to see what could happen, I got admitted into some colleges (Elmira college, University of New Hampshire,Unity college,University of Southern Mississippi, St John's College- can't remember the rest),with insufficient scholarships. The highest fund I got was from Elmira College, a $108,000 presidential scholarship but the school was too expensive as I still had $27000+ to pay per year and I didn't have a dime. I got other minor scholarships from other schools but they were all less than $20000.
I tried again last year since I learnt that SAT validity was 5 years but I kinda knew it was a futile attempt. I desire to retake the SAT but there are no funds.
I am now 18 and in a Nigerian University(200L currently studying an Engineering course) and I still have desire to go through the process once more.
Will it be better to count my losses and try again when I graduate(i.e MSC) or do I keep hoping a break-through would come somewhere and I'll be able to retake the SAT?
Thanks for your time
CC: Bigfrancis21, walspring, lagosismyhome and other well meaning nairalanders...

Not a bad attempt to rewrite SAT but please do not lose focus of your undergraduate studies. I am talking based on my experience of some friends who got carried away during our undergraduate days and they lost out when their visas were denied.

Well, mine is still on AP. Got a mail last Wednesday saying, I should submit an official cover letter authorizing my bank to release pertinent Account information to United States Embassy in Abuja to enable it conclude the process of my visa application. My sponsor’s SOA from an financial investment Company. I have done what they have asked. I contacted the investment Company but they said the embassy has not gotten to them yet. So I still de wait.

In reality, someone who has work to do would not help you in compiling a list of schools that would accept Direct PhD. If you're interested in going for a PhD then I think you should be able to put the work involved in searching for schools. That's even one of the least work self.

There are plenty of schools in USA that accept direct PhD but your GPA and GRE should be good enough. It's not hard to find. Only few requires Msc. No need looking for list, you will find many.

Does applying to only one University reduce my chances of getting visa when ask during interview?

Secondly I applied for MSC without GRE and TOEFL because the school doesn't require it will that also affect my chances of getting visa when ask?

One love house.

Applying to one school doesn't pose you as a serious student because you can predict the outcome of one school. But that doesnt stop you from getting your visa with just one school if you have gotten admission already. Have seen people that applied to one school and got their visa with it but 2 to 3school is okay. As for GRE, not all program requires that. If your program doesn't require It, you have no problem with that. Also TOEFL is waived for Nigerians in most US schools, that shouldn't be a problem at all.

Apologies for posting this long write up.
Good day to you all. Please i want you experienced people here to help me clear my doubt about an issue.
Conversion of GPA from our scale of 5.0 to the US scale of 4.0 is done in ways such as normal calculation, and by evaluating using WES .in most case the evaluated GPA is usually higher than the directly calculated GPA. In a nutshell my GPA of 3.95/5.0 gave me a 3.16/4.0 by normal calculation, but using WES IGPA evaluation, I got a 3.41/4.0.
Now these are my questions
1) When mailing faculty members for graduate positions and they ask for my GPA, can I use the 3.41/4.0 GPA to seek for supervisors or should I use the normal 3.95/5.0 that I have on my official transcript.
NB- the wes evaluation is unofficial.
2) if I were to use the normal 3.95/5.0 GPA, how will schools convert it to their own scale of 4.0.
I don't plan to apply to any school that requires evaluated transcript.
3) I know we have WES US, and WES Canada, but the igpa calculator I used is WES US, will the result be the same for that of Canada, I couldn't find any link for WES Canada igpa calculator.
4) with a good GRE score, can I get a direct PhD with the 3.41/4.0 UG GPA (animal science)

Thanks to you as I anticipate your answers

1. You can specify that you had a 3.95/5 and when you used wes, it evaluated as 3.41/4.

2. Every school that doesn't require to send an evaluated transcript have their own way of evaluating student grades.

3. I'm not too sure about this but I assume it should evaluate to approximately the same thing

4. Yes, not just with a good GRE but a great SOP, LOR and research publication.
