No response?

From what people have posted here it will be better you apply alone first before the rest of the family does, before the VO thinks you guys want to run away.

POE is usually the first place your plane touches ground in this case NYC

This is not sometimes the case, they might have drop off at NYC if you will still be using delta airline to Chicago, please check well it might be a drop off of passengers at NYC and then they proceed to final destination and POE will be at Chicago.

Again I ask, what is wrong with Chicago POE? Let's stop creating this fear for people please. As long as your intentions are genuine and story coherent/straight forward, you have nothing to fear.

Someone I know was just sent back from that POE, so it will be best people avoid that POE as much as possible.

I don't think so. What makes it more different than Houston, NYC, ATL etc.?

In recent times they are different in their own way, I honestly think people should avoid that POE for now.

Guys, hope this helps someone. A link to the US travel of state's website that clearly stipulates that notarization of letters of consent should be at US embassy.

One parent unable to appear
Please note: In certain countries, a DS-3053 must be notarized at a U.S. embassy or consulate and cannot be notarized by a local notary public. Currently, these countries are Algeria,.... Nicaragua, Nigeria, North Korea, ….., Vietnam, and Yemen.

Thanks for your response...but am thinking of letting them know that my wife is going first and myself and child to join her in two weeks later which is the truth and then to return together in 4weeks after...she's to spend 6weeks all together...both of us are tied with our work in Nigeria. She's a banker am a production engineer....could this suffice?

Is it your first time of applying for US visa or have you/your wife got a US visa in the Past?

First time for each one of us.

I (the husband ) have been out of d country before once.. I.e. to Kenya. Plz I need to know.this is the first time we are applying for US visa and shes going for child delivering and I am going for a tour with d child for a month with her. We applied for B1/B2

I doubt if it’s necessary. I just feel all you need is prayer and favour from God. Traveling outside the country especially to an African Country doesn’t give assurance that you’ll be given a visa.

Hi did you say you and your child will be tourring for 1 month.
What do you do for a living(you dont have to answer this here
What gurantee is there that you will return

I am no expert but touring for 1 month with a child.

Ponder on the above.

PS. You need prayer and grace alright....but if you dont do your homework and speak the truth 50 pastors praying for you will be useless.

Let her apply alone first, the issue is all of you appearing for the interview at once. Sometimes the job is not enough ties for them.

People who haven’t travelled ever before have gotten the US visa, and some people who have travelled very well have been denied the visa as well it all comes down to God’s favor which is all you need so I don’t think it’s necessary for them to travel, although they love travel history all the same, so if you can afford them to travel let them travel if not just pray for God’s favor.

She was pregnant, her husband and child were allowed in eventually after spending hours, she wasn’t pregnant when she had the visa, and had all her documents for child birth, what would have passed in any other POE was an issue. Her husband panicked and answered a question a little different from what she said they capitalized on that, I don’t have so much details dear.

It's true Chicago POE is tough...tougher than the average but the truth is a lot of people(naija peeps o) still pass through daily. We only get to hear about the bad experiences (especially affecting preggies) but I guess if one isn't bold enough to pass there...there are always options.

All the best to all Chicago bound mamas...

Adedoyin2108:
Good afternoon ladies

Baby girl arrived on the 3rd of January 2018 at Houston Northwest Medical Center through vaginal delivery.
Breakdown of cost:
Dr Xydas: 2000
Hospital: 2000
Induction: 200*
Stress test: 200*
Epidural: 650*
Hospital peadiatrician: 675 (the normal fee is much higher, this is the The Healthy Baby Package rate)
Pathology: 97 (after discount)
Peadiatrician(after discharge): 75
Birth certificate: 75 (plus delivery charge)
Passport: 160 (expedited)
Visa on arrival 190
*these are optional

I got baby's birth certificate 18 days after birth, 22/1; it was delayed cos of the adverse weather. It's 23 per copy but I paid 75 because I ordered it online (http://houstontx.gov/health/BirthCert/) and it was delivered to me next business day. To save time, I booked my appointment at the passport agency while waiting for the birth certificate. I booked two appointments actually, with different email addresses just in case [(https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports/apply-renew-passport/hurry.html)
When booking the appointment, it's important to indicate that you need the passport same day in order to obtain a visa. After I got the birth certificate, I went for the passport interview the next day, 23/1. My husband wasn't present for the interview, but he was around for the baby's birth so we notarised in the US. If your husband isn't coming to the US, it's best to notarise the document at the US embassy before travelling to the US, notarising at a Nigerian notary public is no longer accepted. I got the US passport same day and sent the email for visa on arrival that night, got approval on Thursday 25/1 (https://immigration.gov.ng/visa-on-arrival/) and travelled on Monday 29/1 via Lufthansa. I had called Lufthansa customer care a day earlier to book a bassinet seat.
I got to Lagos on the 30th, straight to visa on arrival office, presented the approval and other docs, filled a form, paid the fee and baby was stamped in for a month.

NB: Got the Social security number in less than 2 weeks

Thanks to everyone for sharing info on this thread, God bless you all mightily!. To God be the glory!

the visa was obtained in 2014 when my wife was not pregnant, when she became pregnant in 2015 .. we wrote to the embassy notifying them that in addition to the vacation planned for 2015, my wife will also have our baby there. and they acknowledged by mail saying the records have been updated.

OmoBendel24:

These guys seem to be doing the unexpected and abnormal daily. Oakbend has joined "bad gang" (so to speak) too? Maybe there's something else regarding your situation sha....

Was that visa gotten for birthing purposes the last time? If not, was it first used for the purpose for which it was issued before going for the birthing trip?

You all can go together just fill your forms as honestly and truthfully as you can.
Also go with every document you can think or imagine.
If your child is of school age ie 4 years and above then prepare your answer if and when you are asked why you are going with him or her ie if you will be traveling when school is in session.

Thank you so much for this reply. From the look of things. Our interview scheduled date for the family is Nov, is it possible for me to reschedule myself and daughter and leave my wife alone for that day for her own interview alone, while I choose another date for myself and daughter...?.

First time for each one of us.
Then it would have been better if your wife applied alone since none of you has ever gotten a US Visa Before,Then you and your kids will be her strong ties at home,. But nevertheless, since you people have already applied together, just arm yourself with necessary documents stated here which i am sure u must have read from here and pray for God's favor as well. US VO's are very unpredictable, You might be successful. Good luck to you and your Family.

I will advise she applies alone first, but note that alot of preggies have been denied lately, but nonetheless let her be fully prepared with enough budget for the delivery, statement showing availability of the funds etc, good reason why she needs to birth in the US

You and the kid here is enough ties for her

Its better you reschedule your appointment if you can.

Best of Luck

Alot is going on with Chicago POE

They send back both preggy and individaul or stress the living day out of you.

I even read a case of a guy that his visa was cancelled on leaving the US through Chicago POE, am sure you havent heard that before right, go search the Point of Entry thread and see for yourself.

You can search and read up people's experiences.

If in doubt, when next you travel, make your POE Chicago and come give us a feedback grin

Well, that's the reason I keep asking this question. @ your last paragraph. I flew into the US with my pregnant wife more than 3 weeks ago, we passed through and I also just got back about a week ago through same airport in Chicago. Am I missing something?

Everything depends on the individual. If you know your true purpose of travel, why have jitters and give incoherent stories when asked? Still not convinced ma'am
