J2381:
can you compare the acting in acrimony to that of any nollywood movie? Beside, October 1st isn't really a bad movie.

Sometimes, I wonder why many of you believe your personal opinions about movies are absolute facts, when it's just what it is, your personal opinion.

Lawd!

Guy, I also mentioned about the story-line in that post of mine you quoted. If you recall, I was unrelenting in my criticism of Acrimony's ending because it ended like a typical Nollywood movie which has to make a plot dumb to achieve its happy ending. Even Ishilove_ that rated the movie highly disapproved of its Nollywood-esque happy ending. See how dumb the ending played out: Taraji magically evaded the yacht guards, then sauntered her way to the couple's bedroom undetected and had the time to wear the new wife's wedding gown. Held them hostage, commanded the guards to jump off the yacht in the middle o the sea and when she later died, the new wife managed to drive back in the dead of the night on the sea and rescued the yacht guards one by one. All aimed at giving the movie a happy ending. Na so. Na Supergirl she be. angry undecided undecided

It's this same reason why I criticized Lacasa de Papel director's habit of always turning the Professor into a Clark Kent that is always having everyone and everything fall in line for him whenever he's at a crossroad. The Professor usually appears out of the blue and solve every mistake. It's tacky directing.

I'm confused here, when have I ever called my opinions facts? When you rated Acrimony 9.8 or is it 8.9, did you see me quote you to tell you you're wrong? If Acrimony is not Nollywood-esque to you, that's your opinion, as for me, it bears undeniable resemblance to a Nollywood movie. If you also enjoyed October Ist, good for you; the movie was a waste of my time and cinema money with its dull uninspiring acting and storyline.

A Knight's Tale

I had great fun watching this medieval knight-themed movie last night. Great swashbuckling fun. Heath Ledger was fantastic, and so was the rest of the cast, and also, solid action. Every movie that starts off with a Queen song is all right by me. [We will/ we will/ rock you!] Sad that Heath has passed. Put a bit of a dampener afterwards. What a talented actor he was. 8/10

You've gotten me emotional remembering that movie and Heath Ledger. That's Heath Ledger in his handsome, younger glory. Very talented actor. Brilliant acting from all the cast. That movie is in my top 5 Heath Ledger films. Good old memories. cry cry cry cry cry cry

happy ending you say? I honestly don't believe the movie ended on a happy note. She died for crying out loud. If they later reconciled and got married, then can say it ended on a happy note, not the way it ended. Nope. bearing the scars of being shot in the belly and axed on the leg by your ex can't be said to be something that ended on a happy note.

as for Taraji gaining access into the yatch, well, I believe there's bound to be security breach regarding the crew on board. Remember it was the same yatch the talked about buying. So I believe she should know her way around it. Not that they actually hired professionals as private security guards though.

Movie was terrible. I love Taraji, but she need better movies.

Tyler Perry movies tend to be reductive and moronic. Madea is one of the only movies I've noped out so hard I couldn't finish the movie. A feat also matched by Acrimony. I don't think I'm particularly unique in this viewpoint, but I have no plans to watch a Tyler Perry film ever again.

That said, I don't mind him as an actor in films that aren't his. He was solid in Gone Girl, and in Star Trek. He's decent enough actor, but a very uncreative script-writer.

Of course it's a happy ending. Didn't the villain/antagonist die? Didn't the protagonists emerge victorious at the end? I've stopped watching Nollywood movies since ages, but correct me if I'm wrong, doesn't villains in Nollywood movies die or end up on the losing side? If an antagonist in a typical Nollywood movie doesn't die in part 1, he/she will meet his/her timely death in part 2. If they made it past part 2, Grim Reaper will catch up with them in part 3 or 4 or 5 or 6, depending on how log the dumb director decided to milk his sheep. grin grin

Nollywood directors would've saved Jack in Titanic and killed STEM in Upgrade. grin grin grin

there again, perception defers.

To me, I don't see her as the antagonist in the movie, her modafucking sisters were the antagonist and they lived, while she died. There advice made her divorce him. Even when she brought the 10 mill dollar cheque, you heard what her jealous sister told her: "cash the cheque before the bastard change his mind".

STEM is a dick, just like koice. But Jack is in a class of his own. Nollywood directors believe in happy endings so much. But still, not all Nollywood movies have happy ending.

Joker portrayal was his magnum opus as an actor. Very few could portray Joker the way he did. He was born for that character.

Her sisters were too minor a character to be labelled the antagonist IMHO.

I refuse to rate this movie because it's the same old story. The U.S meddling in affairs that concern them not.

Recently I watched the movie "The Nun". I was waiting for this movie release for long time and finally watched but it didn't reach my expectations, not only me it didn't meet the most of the audiences expectations. I'm a great fan of James Wan. I watched all his written and directed movies many times. I love "The Conjuring" movie the most in his writings. Firstly after watching the trailer I felt a bit inetresting the after watching the movie it didn't meet my expectation.

Solo: A Star Wars Story 7.5/10.

Interesting action-packed movie, but to my utmost surprise, it's a box office bomb. Very shocking. How can such a nice movie with cult following bomb at the box office? Beats my imagination. Anyway, as for me, the movie was very interesting. I wish I didn't start my Star Wars journey from Star Wars: The Force Awakens. One day, I'll have to look for a Star Wars link and start from the first Star Wars movie in 1977.

try reading one of the books, you'll understand better.

I'm a star wars fan. But heck, they lost it all after Revenge Of The Sith.

I'm too lazy to read the books, especially when they're not easily accessible to me. I'll have to make out time to find the books and read them. I prefer catching up through the movies, though. I had the opportunity to watch the earlier Star Wars as a child, but I blew it. Everything and every knowledge I know about the franchise started in Force Awakens. Now I'm here wishing I'd watch them all to give me a better understanding of the movie. It's not too late, I must catch up somehow, some day.

BTW, Paul Betany's acting as Chaucer in A Knight's Tale was my favourite role in the movie. The guy made the movie too funny and interesting for me. The ending part when he bought time for William with his introduction speech was epic. grin

wow. You have a long way to go. I recommended the books so you'll truly grasp the extent of power the jedi and sith have. I never truly grasp it till I read the books.

Hope you know there are some cartoon series that go with the star wars franchise. You should also try and watch them.

THE NUN - 8/10
Loved it. Worth the hype but not a movie to watch at the cinema undecided
Better watched alone and at night. Loved it wink

Must say, I'm really impressed with the storyline and linking it way back to The Conjuring 1. Be expecting more to the story soon

"My lords! My ladies.
And everybody else here NOT sitting on a cushion:
Today, today, you find yourselves equals.
For you are all equally blessed.
For I have the pride, the privilege, nay, the pleasure
Of introducing to you a Knight, sired by Knights,
A Knight who can trace his lineage back beyond Charlemagne.
I first met him atop a mountain near Jerusalem,
Praying to God,
Asking His forgiveness,
For the Saracen blood spilt by his sword.
Next, he amazed me still further in Italy
When he saved a fatherless beauty
From the would-be ravishings
Of her dreadful Turkish uncle.
In Greece, he spent a year in silence
Just to better understand the sound of a whisper.
And so, without further gilding the lily,
And with no more ado,
I give to you the Seeker of Serenity,
The Protector of Italian Virginity,
The Enforcer of our Lord God,
The One...
The Only...
Sir Ulrich Von Lichtenstein!!!"

grin grin grin

All bullsh*t of course, but great oratory skills. grin grin

Very underwhelming. Almost no story. I think the problem lies with the fact that it tried too hard to scare us. Relied too much on jumb scares that you can see coming a mile away. Maybe I expected too much.
