Odunayaw:I’m glad that African forces are embracing tech, investing heavily in drones, all weather and night capabilities, PGMs and other high tech force multipliers. This is easily the fastest way to bridge the funding gap, get maximum amount of work done with little resources. |

"War is he'll tis good lest we get to fond of it". Please share the gory decapitation of the BH ass. Let Nigerians actually see what happens when you take up arms against the Government. |

jakeporeshenko:On a SADC tip I see. Zambia and now Tanzania. Re Zambia: still in test phase. Their UAV acquisition program ended up shortlisting 3 suppliers: China, Israel and SA. Remains to be seen what they choose. I don't think they'll choose Denel for a variety of reasons, none to do with capability. RE Tanzania: they're pissed we've pursued the larger market in Kenya (never mind these are decisions made by private companies) ever since the end of Apartheid, regardless of their sacrifices and greater support. I've always maintained it's easier for RSA as a regional hegemon in SADC than Nigeria in ECOWAS. Language similarities - Portugues-speaking Mozambique is now a member of the English Commonwealth; Angola recently proposed English as the sole language in the SADC Stand-by Brigade; and DRC will soon be forced to choose 1 from the 3 regional bodies to which they belong - and the primacy of the South African Rand as the region's unofficial currency. You guys have to deal with France and her proxy Morocco (your current administration supported Morocco's re-admission to the AU, and then were surprised when France's colonies supported Morocco joining ECOWAS And that's before both our countries have to deal with the mendacity of our politicians. |

Algerian1:As a South African, I still regret that if ATE hadn't gone bankrupt, your BMPs would've received this upgrade - same as your SuperHind choppers. By the way, do you know why the SuperHind contract went ahead whilst the SuperBMP contract was cancelled, seeing Paramount bought both the Land and Air divisions of ATE?

Further to my post on studying the enemy; more detail from our "Leasons Learned Centre" including from amongst others, the Nigerian Defence Attache in SA, STTEP, TRADOC, DARPA, open sources etc: Ambush "Hybrid threat actors, like Boko Haram, use ambushes to control the time and place of an attack to destroy or capture personnel and supplies, harass and demoralise the enemy, delay or block movement of personnel and supplies, and cannalise enemy movement by making certain routes useless for traffic. "With an increased Nigerian military counterinsurgency effort,Boko Haram has amplified its use of ambushes against a variety of targets. Following the Chibok Girls Secondary School kidnappings, the Nigerian government felt increasing pressure to find the girls. The military conducted multiple patrols throughout Borno State. Soldiers sent to the north to face Boko Haram are often demoralized, feeling they are outgunned by the insurgents, frequently not paid in full, and left without enough ammunition or food. Frequent Boko Haram ambushes have added to the psychological strain on Nigerian soldiers. "On 13 May 2014, soldiers in the Chibok area were ordered to move at night based on what some believed was faulty and unverified information from locals. Soldiers pleaded with their commander to spend the night in one of the villages to avoid moving over dangerous roads in the dark. Overruled by their commander, the soldiers’ fears were realized when Boko Haram ambushed the convoy, killing between four and twelve soldiers. The ensuing fight left an unknown number of Boko Haram fighters dead as well. The convoy was able to push through and arrived at the Maimalari Barracks in Maiduguri that night. "Evidence of the cumulative psychological effect and success of ongoing ambushes against the Nigerian military can be found in what happened when the bodies of the soldiers killed in the ambush arrived at the Maimalari Barracks. The arrival of the bodies coincided with the visit of the 7th Division commander, Major General Ahmadu Mohammed, who had come to pay his respects to the dead soldiers. When soldiers saw the general’s vehicle, some fired on it. The general was uninjured, but his bodyguards received minor wounds. In late 2014, a military court convicted 18 soldiers in the incident; 12 were sentenced to death, five were discharged from the military, and one was sentenced to 28 days with hard labor. Major General Mohammed, the target of the mutiny, was immediately reassigned after the shooting." From whom did Boko Haram learn, as they exhibited most of this tactical proficiency prior to their pledging allegiance to the more tactically aware ISIS?

Algerian1:Still doesn't make sense: the same company that did SuperHind would have done SuperHIP and SuperBMP. In fact, a few ot your MI-171 have been upgraded to SuperHIP by Paramount when they bought ATE, if memory serves. |

Odunayaw:Oga why you de talk like say no be naija u dey again. Don't you know that fat estacodes dey follow such trips? and heavy budgeting/"padding" de go on, Abi u no want make some senior brass them tidy one or two things b4 retirement? Haba uncle. Make I run b4 Oga Aliexpensive radio in ISR guys to come level my location with hell fire missile. Jokes apart we ain't gonna stop sending guys abroad soonest for SF training, though it will be cheaper to conduct such in Nigeria in the long run. Israel most especially are benefiting from this tango, not only financially(though some of the trainings are free safe for troops welfare)but also intelligence wise. I know a DSS personal that was sent for counter terrorism course in Israel, those guys made them simulate different hostage rescue mission, as a precondition for successfully completing the course, guess what? The Israelis documented all their tactics. He said those guys have different manuals for different kind of operations and some of which are gotten from the most brilliant minds of operatives that come for such trainings, they keep updating their tactics thanks to such tangos . Don't be surprised to know that they can even offer an arm of service free training to some selected Intellectuals in the military, they know what they're doing nothing goes for nothing. For me Nigeria ought to have an odoctonous for SF training by now. |
