Is there really an identity debate? I personally don't think so. It is a matter of awareness and perspective. For instance, the current Secretary General of Ohanaze Ndigbo is an Ikwerre Man. His delivery at the last Ala Igbo Development Converge in Enugu was mind-blowing and liberating. He is a proud Igbo man. The only reason Peter Odili was denied the VP spot with Yar-Adua was because he was Igbo.Edwin Clark reportedly opposed and openly mentioned no Igbo should be allowed to go that far from Rivers State and ended up throwing up GEJ. The rest they say is history. One of the pro-Igbo veterans on this forum was Ezepromoe. He never failed to remind anyone that cared he was Rivers and full blooded Igbo. Duncan Mighty flaunts his Igbo credentials at each point. Many more are here, following this thread and those who have seen the light should be encouraged. It is an open discussion. No one is claiming anyone or forcing anyone.
like the post above says, its all about perspective. Amarabae is a proud igbo girl from rivers, would u deny her her igboness? The rivers state igbos are divided 50-50 along who is igbo and who is not...we will keep the conversation going.
InyinyaAgbaOku:

You really think it's about Amaechi?
Keep deceiving yourselves, those people have totally moved on from Igboness and I believe you too should move on as well

It is often very shameful when i hear this talk of who is Igbo and who is not.

If an Ikwerre person says he is Igbo, then he is Igbo. If they say they are not Igbo, then they are not Igbo. It does not change anything.

The stupidity is when folks come here and kill themselves trying to prove that some who said he is Igbo isn't Igbo because some others from his clan said they were not Igbo.

Please, enough of this silly argument. I have noticed some monikers in the forum are ONLY active when it's about cursing people or insulting people of doing other negative activities. They NEVER contribute any positive ideas to anything. They just sit and wait for somebody to mention one state and they start posting pictures of gutters in this forum. Please let continue to ignore such empty characters here and focus on the purpose for creating this Pan-Igbo thread.

My own is that, Ikwere people dat say they are not igbo should drop the Igbo names.

I am not asking for much here.

Mtchew. If I began to list all the kingdom who migrated from akwaibom and cross river in abia state. U will see that its numerous. There are even more in akwa cross. Like isobo and co who still believes that they are igbo.... What about my kingdom nko. Who migrated from akwacross.. Igbos are xplorers. They leave their home and xplore to found good things. And if itx not favorable they go home. The Igbo character of migrating to different countries and places didn't start today. It started in ancient times. because Abiriba-Nkporo kingdom migrated from akwacross with ancestors nnachi oke and okwor eze aja made us less igbo?. They know the truth. They are jst blinded by oil politics and the so called educated folks among them who should ave used their sense to see that all this their stories are trash are the one propagating it to the younger ones....mtchew abeg make we forget this people....

Amaechi became Transport minister, he is building train to Niger republic but cannot ensure Enugu airport is operational.

Every christmas, he will close the Airport and claim maintenance, nothing get done.

Wen it comes time for concession, he made sure only Abuja, Lagos, Kano and Port Harcourt get concessioned leaving Enugu out.

Someone better remind him that Ndiigbo finished with Port Harcourt in the 1960s, we are not coming back.

Go and see the beautiful Lagos and Ibadan road Fashola is constructing.

But we answer English names and it has not caused any confusion for the English people.

Nwokem, anyone who is Igbo enough to answer Igbo name believes he is Igbo. But may claim otherwise due to economic advantages or the quest to feel different.
Biko, stop losing sleep over some Ikwerre people. In time, when they see there is no advantage whasoever to deny their heritage, they will quietly return.

It is not the samething.

In africa, one cannot be on his ancestral land and be answering other tribe names, speaking other tribe language and eating other tribe food, yet deny them like Simon Peter.

As far as i am concerned, any group that deny Igbo for economic gain are Judas.

Igbo thing cannot always be negatively different from others.

We cannot continue to tolerate the intolerable.

No person should expect that from us.

Our father may have but this generation wont.

We will confront them, look them square in the face and call dem Judas Iscariot.

How can you compare Ndoki/Asa with Ikwerre people?

Ndoki/Asa has at no point denied their Igbo origin. Be they in Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Abia.

Hmm, Ikwerre is divided like 10-90 with only 10% being vocally proud Igbo, the other 90% being those who are vocally anti Igbo, those who are undecided, those who only claim Igbo when it's expedient to do so while denying Igbo when necessary, and those who just don't care about ethnic identity.

Ogba is 100% anti Igbo. Since all my existence in the world, I'm yet to see a proud Igbo man from Ogba, don't tell me about Ogbuehi Francis Ellah, he's late, we are talking of the living. Ogba is so anti Igbo that they enacted a law that no land in Ogbaland should be sold to Ndiigbo, but the same could be sold to even a man from Niger republic.

Ndoni. I don't much about Ndoni, they are rather laid back. Not Anti Igbo, not actively pro Igbo either. But I got the feeling that Ndoni would easily identify with Ndiigbo when push comes to shove.

Ekpeye.
These ones are in the same boat as Ogba, their half brothers. They are violently anti Igbo, and would even rather become Ijaw than Igbo. Some time ago, a group of Ekpeye youths joined IYC.

Etche.
These ones are 50-50 in their Igbo denial and acceptance. The Ikwerre mainstream anti Igbo rhetorics had rubbed off on Etche people, negatively. Many Etche persons today are not pro Igbo.

That's the situation report in Rivers state.

I think ikwerre/ rivers this and that should take the back bench here. I don't see any value it will add to any of us here neither will it change anything for them. I can only agree if anyone says the new Ikwerres are not Igbos on only one condition. Which is, that all such Ikwerres should vacate all Igbo lands they are occupying, because Igbos own most lands in Rivers state. There's no debate there. Those in agreement say AIiiiiii iii ii! ?

Honestly, your rebuttal above was a complete education in itself. I for one never knew those Igboid splinters that much. My proposal was actually for those among them who realized the folly of their forebears and traced their ways back to the general Igbo family. We must as a pragmatic and noble race, accept them back when they do. I mentioned a couple of names earlier and still insist it is a matter of awareness and perspective. A logical look at the entire Igbo denials ravaging these groups will always arrive at unbridled folly and self subjugation. Again, the purpose of my view was not to promote a debate or claim anyone but to express an opinion and encourage those who are back in the fold or those about to take the noble step.
Once upon a time, the likes of Emeka Esogbue and Lurreta Onochie (prompted by fifth columnists as Ena Ofugara,Itse Sagay and Edwin Clark) held sway in Anioma and promoted a very pathological, silly and demonic version of igbophobia and historical revisionism. It took the open declaration of Igboness by the Asagba of Asaba,Omu Anioma and host of other notable figures to turn the tide. I will also mention Diokpa Osita Mordi, who is an enclopedia of Western Igbo history, to counter their lies. His page on Facebook and other pro-Igbo pages on facebook he belonged to are literal Igbo history classes. Today, more Aniomas are pro-Igbo than before. Please note that one of the most reverred historian and foremost authority in Igbo history is Professor Onwuejiogwu. He is an Anioma man. Most contemporary studies on Igbo history has his indelible marks and references. One of the most cerebral contributors here is CJrane and he is from either Ibuzo or Ogwashi.
To give further credence to my veiws on this. The only reason Odili was denied the VP slot with Yar Adua by South South Leaders was his Igbo heritage. At the height of Buhari's exclusion of Igbos in appointments and following the outcry that greeted it,Buhari himself mentioned on national TV that he gave Igbos the most juicy positions in his governement and by this he meant CBN Governor and Minister of Petroluem. Both posts were occupied by Godwin Emefiele(an Ika subgroup) and Ibe Kachikwu (Oshimili). This singular admittance by Buhari displayed the double standards and wickedness of promoting the anti-Igbo story when it suits them to divide the general Igbo body and then admitting the very opposite when it seems convenient. Let us at least discuss and brain storm on these matters even if for the purpose of education and enlightenment.

Anioma case is dfifferent, i can claim Anioma people because of the human resources God deposited in that area. That cannot be said of Ikwerres or other Rivers people. Atleast if your claiming Anioma you are looking at UBA, Zenith, Keystone, LBS, PAU, Thisday, Pat Utomi, Jay Jay Okocha , The Iwealas ...Sages like Prof Edozien Asagba of Asaba, Sylvester Monye, Sunny Odogwu, and Nuel Ojei Group.

Please if you are claiming Ikwerres, Ogbas, Ekpeyes what are you claiming ...cultists, thugs, people with neither a business, occupation nor a niche . Tell me why i should claim someone from Rivers State: people that claim to have oil but don't even have common filling stations .

My take is this, if you are an Ikwerre and said you are Igbo; i will be at peace with you. If you said you arent Igbo i will also be at peace with you because head or tail i'm not expecpeting to benefit anything from anybody.
