Why should they keep them? How would they survive?are they feeding them? Who even knows The type of food they eat ?it's better they release them and let them get back to their natural habitat, they would die within few days if they don't release them

These animals are aquatic. I guess they shouldn't be out of water for too long.
Re: Two Manatees Caught In River Benue. Boys Charge N100 Per View (Photos) by Obi1kenobi(m): 9:55pm On Sep 25, 2018
Those are aquatic creatures and there is not enough water there. Leaving them lying around in that mud is basically torturing the poor creatures. If you can't provide an enabling environment, let them go. They belong in the water.

Ignorance which breeds cruelty, it almost better to put them out of their misery than keep them in such conditions. Or they could show some humanity and release them? Disgusting people.

For those who don't know what manatees are:

https://www.savethemanatee.org/manatees/facts/

"Manatees are gentle and slow-moving animals. Most of their time is spent eating, resting, and traveling. Manatee are mostly herbivorous, however small fish and invertebrates can sometimes be ingested along with a manatee’s normal vegetation diet. They eat aquatic plants and can consume floating, emergent, and submerged vegetation from freshwater, brackish, and saltwater environments. Because they are mammals, they must surface to breathe air. They may rest submerged at the bottom or just below the surface of the water, coming up to breathe on an average of every three to five minutes. When manatees are using a great deal of energy, they may surface to breathe as often as every 30 seconds. When resting, manatees have been known to stay submerged for up to 20 minutes. Manatees can swim up to 20 miles per hour in short bursts, but they usually only swim about three to five miles per hour."

None of the two recommendations is good!

Manatees are bigger than living in the stream.

Releasing them to Nigerian zoos are not a good idea either, cos that is like signing their death warrant by starving.
'stream' in the context in which the person you mentioned used it, I believe means the river Benue, the natural habitat from where the animals were caught in the first. The source tells us this happened in a community along the River Benue and you can see how healthy the Manatees look. So...

Re: Two Manatees Caught In River Benue. Boys Charge N100 Per View (Photos) by RedboneSmith(m): 6:34am On Sep 26, 2018
These animals will soon die. They aren't built to live on land. And they are already so rare, probably critically endangered sef. People who care about conservation would release them back into the water.

Uncommon sense, because this kinda sense isn't common in this land of hunger. Now the Manatee can feed them for several weeks or months depending on how long they can manage to keep it, instead of making pepper soup that will feed them in a day out of it.

Jukun youths have caught two manatees along the banks of River Benue.

However, rather than butcher the animals for meat, the boys have chosen to keep the rare animals in a pit at home, charging people between N50 to N100 per view.

They won't last long in that kind of place
Cos, it's different from their natural environment

Na wa o.
I surprise as everybody dey praise their business sense.
It`s commendable that they didn`t kill the animals though.

And I know private unregistered zoos are about to explode in Nigeria because of this money anglegrin
