You guys are doing a great job.

I am a novice just trying to be in the know, will be buying my first car soon, don't want to regret the choice I am going to make so need to seek people's opinions and advice.

I once seek people's opinions on nairaland about 2002 - 2007 mercedes benz c class and 2007 - 2011 Toyota camry. Though I like benz but I chose 2010/2011 Toyota Camry V6 SE because of its sporty look.

After making my choice then with what I have learnt from this tread and recent research please I need a comparison/recommendation between 2010/2011 Toyota Camry V6 SE and 2008 - 2010 Lexus ES350 V6.

Thanks in anticipation.

Umm, the Lexus ES is literally an upscale Camry V6. Anything the Camry does, the ES will do better.

It's a bit like comparing Kovacic to Modric, if you watch football.

You shouldn't compare a Lexus and a Camry. The Lexus is built on the Camry platform but far more loaded... Than the Camry.

I feel your pain. Only good thing is that the MDX is just a nice cozy place to be in. Really comfortable. You could almost forgive the atrocious MPG.

Cc: Greenhulk, what's your TL's gas mileage like?

I haven't gone to the highway for a while now, just city driving with ac and I'm getting 20L/100km (my model is the canadian model) which is 11.7mpg. Without Ac around lagos traffic I get around 13.5 mpg. But when I travel on the highway I get 10L/100km which is 23mpg. pretty low but I have come to live with it, the Acura of those years are required to run on premium fuel for optimum performance and mpg and we don't have premium fuel here in Nigeria. The newer models don't require premium fuel though so they get better mpg even with our fuel here.

Sigh, Acuras of that era have horrible gas mileage. I guess smiles per gallon are more important, though. 23mpg on highway is superb, tbh.

U enjoy them when u take them to the highway. But city driving especially with AC on, mhen ur gonna visit the gas station frequently. I think if we have high octane fuel that can add 3-5 more mpg. The 3rd and 4th gen Acura TL and corresponding MDX require premium fuel while the 2015 TLX only says premium fuel recommended and not required. Plus Honda improved their engine in those newer models they now get way better mpg.

Bosses, what are the things to be done during a car servicing?
Cc Nurey, HeavenlyBang, RadAutoWorks

Depends on the car and mileage. Could be as simple as oil change or go all the way to replacing air filter, cabin air filter, fuel filter, pcv valve, spark plugs, spark plugs wires, belts, hoses, rotor and/or distributor cap and O2 sensors.

It's really determined by manufacturer schedule for your car, mileage and need.

3 series is nice to drive but Beemers have terrible reliability. If you're willing to put up with any issues the BMW throws at you, buy it. It's a much better car than the Corolla, reliability aside.

Or you can get a Mercedes W203 C Class. More reliable than the Beemer and still a considerably better car than the Corolla.

Forgive me HeavenlyBang, I will draw you back a little. After seeing this your comment I did a little study on 'W203' basically Wikipedia, lol. Can you state a particular model or year as reliable as the King of reliability (Corolla), I don't mind downgrading from my former choice of Mercedes

Thanks

Reliability availability of parts and utility are my major considerations.

The 2006 Nissan pathfinder has a flaw which is corrected by radiator bypass without doing this you can damage your transmission early. With the bypass done the pathfinder is a very rugged car and reliable too, the V6 or V8 ensures you have power and the acceleration is top notch. The LE or SE has well built interior with necessary gizmo to keep you company during on road and off road usage.

The Volvo XC90 is a versatile well built SUV with its 5seater or 7 seater variant you will enjoy enough room and cargo space. The well built safety features ensure you and your family are safe in any mild crash or roll over. Its an SUV you would enjoy.

luxury finish Volvo wins
Reliability Pathfinder
off road ability Draw
fuel economy Pathfinder
power Pathfinder
maintenance Pathfinder

The volvo is not a loser but needs care and parts most times can be scarce to source. The T5 is the most basic engine fitted but still gives kazeem headache.

The pathfinder is an all round reliable vehicle as reliable as Toyota 4runner yet cheaper to procure.

Thanks a lot.
Vehicle will be mainly for not too frequent weekend interstate trips.
Both are similarly priced ( the Pathfinder has a lower mileage and has been used very sparingly by a close relative who has a fleet of cars, whom I'm trying to convince to let it go)
Please how is the bypass done.
Heard of it before but I don't know the level of expertise needed to effect it

A Google search should point you to the right direction. It has to do with redirecting the radiator hose feeding the transmission to somewhere else. Just a lay man's definition of what to do.
It was a design flaw in the pathfinder and xterra after that fire your vehicle and enjoy peace of mind

Wow... thanks for the enlightenment Sir.

So if only I can stick to the right and approved maintenance procedures, oil, filters and ensure I avoid unqualified service personnel, the Beemer would serve me well.
This is fantastic.

Please kindly look into the fuel efficiency of the 3 series when compared to the Corolla.
It's quite important too Sir.

Regards.
The corola usually comes in 1.8 liter engine as well as the beamer. The corolla edges it in terms of real life mpg. People ho drive beamers don't help themselves too as they are often tempted to rev the engine which doesn't help their mpg. Its a beamer after all. grin

you are supposed to compare the scion to the civic coupe.

scion 2.4L engine 20/27
city 1.3/1.5/1.8L 26/34

The scion is a sports performance vehicle and a 2 door coupe.

The city is a reliable point A to B vehicle

both vehicles are reliable, the scion has a more upscale interior and sound system.
interior wise they are both well built and the scion though a coupe has enough leg room and boot space.

The scion is for a single individual who likes good things.

The city is a family vehicle and good for city runs.

Which do you prefer and recommend please?

Which do you prefer and recommend please?

What I prefer or recommend doesn't make one better than the other besides my opinion would always be an opinion the decision is and should always be yours to take.

I don't think a family man driving a scion TC is ok as the front passengers would come down before rear passengers can. Also imagine the stress you have to go to just to adjust the seat for rear exit passengers as your wife or whoever is sitting in front cannot operate the seat. But with all that a car that sends signals to babes (could be positive or negative depending on your relationship status).

The city derives it's name from its function, a city car with good mpg, able to take the day to day drop off and pickup and reliable too.

so the choice is yours a babe magnet (TC) or a family sedan (city)
