Is a pity that at age of 81 when Bill Cosby should be in his retirement home, he will be now in prison. One lesson I learnt from his sentence is to take care of your today in order to enjoy your tomorrow.

How come trump hasn't been convicted for hush money payment that he was indicted of by his ex attorney.

Investigation is still ongoing. His attorney pleased guilty. He hasn't been indicted.

So I have a question
One thing that has always put me off the US is natural disasters.
Quakes, Hurricanes Tornadoes etc

Anyone hear ever experienced such?
Has it affected where you chose to live or
Do natural disaster prone areas have insurance packages to cover for such?

Umm.. we have them in Nigeria too. We just don't call them that. There is insurance available if one wants it. I'm in Houston notified for flooding and lived through the last three major ones. Didn't really affect my decision on where to live because pretty much the whole city underwater when it happens.

So like flooded basements or flooded streets so you cant move.

Floods in Nigeria yeah but the idea of a full earthquake or hurricane....its not something I want to experience. Or maybe its tv images making it seem worse.

Hows Houston? I hope to visit soon.

It's a process. Here is an article for you.

How hurricanes get their names
By
Sep 6, 2017, 3:32 PM ET

WATCH: Tropical storms and hurricanes are given short, distinctive names to avoid confusion and to streamline communications, according to the NOAA.
As Hurricane Irma, a Category 5 storm, begins battering the Caribbean, you may wonder how hurricanes get their names.

Storm naming is actually maintained by an international group of meteorologists known as the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).

This image obtained from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration shows Hurricane Irma, Sept. 2, 2017, at 1130 UTC. Irma picked up strength and has become an "extremely dangerous" Category Five hurricane as it approached the Caribbean on Sept. 5, 2017, the Miami-based National Hurricane Center reported.

The organization's experts meet annually to discuss hurricanes. They also decide when to retire the names of the costliest and deadliest hurricanes, such as Katrina, Rita and Matthew.

A list of the retired names dating back to 1954 is listed here.

And if more than 21 storms strike in a season, names are pulled from the Greek alphabet

Homes knocked off their foundations following the storm surge produced by Hurricane Sandy, Nov. 3, 2012, Brick Beach, N.J.
Retiring names "is based on the strength and how destructive the storms were," Susan Buchanan, a spokeswoman at the National Weather Service, a party to the WMO, told ABC News. "No one will forget Katrina or Sandy because they associate those names with a particular storm."

But it's too early to know if Harvey will join these historic hurricanes.

"I don't want to speculate whether the WMO will retire Harvey," she said.

She emphasized that the current naming system minimizes the difficulty in tracking multiple storms at once.

"They named storms to avoid confusion and it's easier to put in the history books," Buchanan explained.

Hundreds of years ago, hurricanes were named after saints, according to NOAA. The hurricane that struck Puerto Rico in 1825 was named Santa Ana, for example.

By the end of the 19th century, an Australian forecaster named Clement Wragge pioneered the practice of naming storms after the Greek alphabet. He then began applying women's names to tropical storms before the end of the 19th century, according to the NOAA website.

NOAA said a group of American soldiers in 1944 named a series of tropical storms in Saipan after their wives.

A year later, according to NOAA, the armed services adopted the practice of naming typhoons in the western Pacific after women.

By 1953, the military scrapped its storm-naming method, which worked off a phonetic alphabet, and started attributing female names to storms, according to NOAA.

Male names have only been included on the U.S. National Hurricane Center (NHC) storm lists since 1979.

Today, meteorologists alternate male and female names for storms and rotate them out by using six lists that run through the year 2022.

"The lists are reused unless one [storm name] is retired and is substituted with a new name that is selected by the WMO," Buchanan said.

The process, however, has been controversial. In 2014 a study published by the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) contended that female-named hurricanes led to more destruction.

Critics, including scientists from the same agency, debunked the suggestion that storms do more damage simply because they're masculine or feminine.

Buchanan agrees.

"There's no scientific correlation between the size and strength of storms and whether they have male or female names,"

It depends on the part of the country. West Coast experiences more earthquakes. Midwest which is more flat experiences tornadoes. Areas near large bodies of water experience hurricanes. But flooding is usually a result of the hurricane bc of the large amounts of rainfall. Northern areas experience blizzards (large amounts ofvsnow) in the winter time
Most of the time only major natural disasters make major news.
I've been thru one small earthquake which happened on an area that it doesn't ever happen in. And a couple of tornadoes.

I don't know about separate insurance policies for natural disasters. I don't live in disaster prone area. But, there is renters and homeowners insurance that protects your property and belongings in the event of damage whether fire, burglary, weather, etc. You can add what is called clauses to the package for issues like flooding which will make the premium go up in price.

I'm not sure what details you expected to hear but fact of the matter is I don't owe anyone the details especially since it's my husband's business and not mine. I don't know about the other guy but I do know it happened for my husband.
My husband is Jamaican. Dad emigrated, lost touch, son went to USA on a Visa, while there dad in an attempt to mend fences filed for him. That's as much detail of his story as you're going to get. I already regret sharing so much detail about his life on this forum and he'll probably be mad at me.

Moving on. Been a while since anyone had something positive to contribute on this thread. Time to unfollow or close?
Your really not providing much detail as far the actual immigration process. But whatever , it’s your personal choice. The process is not as simple as filling out a form. Nigerians are not straight forward people. When I read other immigration stories from other nationalities , they detail it which turn educate people, they just don’t make blanket statements and expect people to run with it.

Then why are you responding ? The texts don’t provide any information of how he went from f1 sent to citizenship. Legal residents does not mean they are citizens they could be green card holders.

Every case is different and this is not even my story to tell. What worked for one may not work for the other. Case in point, I got my green card through marriage but divorced before I got it which should have instantly disqualified me. But guess what? It was denied and i appealed and got it. So there are no hard and fast rules and it doesn't matter what worked for him as it may or may not work for you. But to simply dismiss or question people simply because your "research" says it's not possible, is simply rude. Again, this is not about the other guy but about second guessing when I said it happened for my husband.

At the end if the day, I couldn't care less if I was believed or more because he had been a citizen for decades, I have mine and the recipient of the information can do whatever they want with that.

I'm still not understanding why you feel anyone is obligated to explain that ESPECIALLY when they don't know what went into the decision-making of the immigration officer? So if it was a case of a sympathetic officer, a fluke or mistake, they are supposed to call attention to their case by others trying to follow the same path with their status retroactively being revoked like some currently are?
