Hmmmm
This is a really educative thread.

I'm in a similar position as the op.

Please permit me to seek for sincere advice as well.

I am a registered nurse, midwife, public health nurse. I have PGDE, BNSc as well as MSc Nursing. I'm almost done with my Ph.D (Nursing). I'm a lecturer in a federal university in the south.
I'm 33years old, married with 2kids (7 and 2 years old).
My husband is a medical doctor and 42years old working with the state government.

We are planning to relocate to either USA, Canada or Australia.
MAJORLY because of our children's future.

Is it advisable?
I guess your family is a bit comfortable in Nigeria so I suggest you save up money and send your kids abroad to study as well as probably start up their lives there. As for you and your husband, believe me, if you guys migrate to the US without green card or citizenship, y'all will start afresh. Several Nigerian doctors are already stranded here, no immigrant documentation, no license and no jobs and they've been here for years now. Another way, get Niger or Cameroon citizenship and keep on trying US Visa Lottery. If you guys win it, I'll even advise you leave Naija the same day lol but coming here undocumented, my sister, you will one day remember this my comment and shout.

how did you migrate with your family to finland or rather how did you get your Finland visa. please share more information on this? you mean the only jobs migrants do over there is cleaning jobs?

I came as a student, so I followed the due process of admission etc...truth is this society is racist somewhat but if you can prove your competence in your art, you will thrive...but a large chunk of immigrants here are the cleaners, if you can learn something back home like crane driving or you are a mad programmer, you will thrive here Allah

Hello?! What of when I run my MSc Postgraduate in a relatively cheap Canadian pharmacy school.

Will I have satisfied the Canadian experience demand and have my chances of good employment in my career boosted?

Pharmacy undergraduate degree is from Nigeria.
No. Msc or phd in pharmacy from Canada or anywhere in the world does not give you the entrance to practice. Entrance to practice is via a pharm degree from a Canadian university or pass the qualifying exams if your degree is foreign ( takes around 3 years for that).

It could also be more than 3years depending on how long it takes the candidate to pass all exams/OSCE and internship. Some also never pass and get struck out after 3 attempts.
If you are very very very lucky, you could get a pharm assistant job which is more like o'level job, else na survival/menial jobs to pay bills till exams are passed.

He is saying the TRUTH but in Naira.
It’s in NEW YORK, that you find many million Dollar Guys. Out of every 3 New Yorker u see on the way, 1 of them is usually a million dollar owner.
U also find such in San Francisco, LA but more in the New York.

No matter how useless your Job is, u should make at least 800k in Naira every month as the poorest person with papers after Tax deductions.
House Rent should take at least 700USD monthly for the cheapest axis.
However FOOD is very very very very very very CHEAP

TRUCK DRIVERS are paid 30USD every hour. Some are paid as high as 50USD.
No be small money oooo even as a tipper driver.
Clean And well Fed Guys oooo

Are you spending the money in naira or dollars? What is your standard/class in the American society?

You are wise. They fall out of track in high school because of exposure to hard drugs and other vices.

I am definitely birthing all of my kids in the US or Canada for their citizenship (they will thank me later), then they will head back to Nigeria to be raised according to our culture and traditions. At 16th birthday after secondary school you will learn you are actually an American. After SS3 you can fly into amelika for university education and quality lifestyle.
That is if one amebo aunty doesn't tell them they have citizenship before they're 16.

"Ahn Ahn, Americana, you're now big oh. Is your daddy at home? Greet him for me".

Hmmmm......I thought it was only me some ask for help when stuck. The bad thing...these people do not share their experiences here in the forum....they go silent.

Or they paint a fake picture. America no easy at all, every man for himself or herself. Most these posters on here are still living in Nigeria and they’re advising somebody on how to travel out. You must plan your self very well especially if you are older and have a family .There are loads of people stuck abroad. Canada is looking for young and skilled workers. Op needs to be realistic and think about what jobs he will have access too with his degree and job experience.

Oga OP, I can't advice you to relocate sir, because the hustle no be here. Let your kids go to universities abroad if you can afford it but primary & secondary school here is better to give them sense.

well different strokes for different folks

As for me, I am not raising my kids FOR A SINGLE DAY in Nigeria

Nigeria has a special way of f**king up one's mentality

My parents tried their best to keep me away from it, but I still got few stains of it...

I can't have my kids seeing the world via a "Nigerian worldview"
God forbid bad thing

but as I said

different strokes for different folks

Guy, since you've been abroad you never get another citizenship, what's up with that bro? Back to the matter, bro u can still make your kids what you want them to be here, if you can't they will teach him sense outside if he misbehave. You can still see many humble shorties here, they still acknowledge you as their senior, Naija sweet for that one. Send them to good schools here and they go get sense = focus, respect, teachable, abroad is harder.

Me I disagree, if I am able too , I would like my child or children to spend time in Nigeria. I and others like myself who were sent back home, really apppreciate the experience now that we are adults.

Maybe in other parts of America...but not NY as far as I know. Which neighbourhood is that?.....there are neighbourhoods that make you feel like you're in certain countries.....e.g Washington Heights where you can easily believe you're in the Dominican Republic....Spanish is the language spoken in that area...go in a store...more likely they will have to go get the English speaker to attend to you! There are little pockets of Africans ...Africans ....in various parts of the city....but no community where you may question if you are in Nigeria period. If you just come to NY and want to feel at home...if you're Russian...go to Sheephead Bay, Brooklyn. .....from China...go to China Town....if you're West Indian...go to Flatbush ...if you're Mexican..oh well...they are everywhere!...but if you're Nigerian...there's no neighbourhood where you can spit pidgin 24/7.

Hasidic 'Jew' from Israel? ......Crown Heights

Some parts of ny are rough especially in Brooklyn. We may have a difference in opinion on what we consider rough. I like the diversity of NY, one of the most diverse places in America , people from different background , but that’s all I like. Ny is not for me at all.

I hear you. Everything is relative.... One man's rough neighbourhood is another man's paradise!. Brownsville....one of Brooklyn s roughest and hottest hoods.....but one wouldn't know if not told!

I work in a group home assisting clients with developmental disabilities. Please note that these clients are able people and do not have physical disabilities which are two separate things

Don’t worry I know the difference, I work in the healthcare field too but in the U.S. Just curious about what type of job you got that’s all.

there is no career enhancement without learning. Whilst academic qualification does not equal great learning in some situations, they are very important. For instance there are jobs that are exclusively for masters holders, some for PhD. If you do not have MBA or professsional certifications in some cases, one is not considered. You should know all this. If you are all about business Nigeria remains your best and only option considering your background and the resource you got. 10 million is about 32,000 dollars. This might not even be enough for you to settle down as a family man talk more starting an enterprise abroad.

Thank you for mentioning this. Alot of people think that opening business here is easy. That why I asked in previous posts what common businesses are Nigerians known for having here? Asians are known for having nail salons , beauty supply stores and restaurants. Middle eastern known for having gas stations and liquor stores . Indians known for having 7 eleven.

You can say that again. Some people like to like to suffer themselves and live somewhere just because they think it’s paradise.

the question is....

What is stopping the African migrants from opening their own businesses?

the answer is complex and not straightforwardly, but lazinesss, myopia and lack of vision has a huge role to play

imagine if we had a sizeable number of African run successful business chains......

We would have been hiring ourselves the way the Asians do, and be moving ahead

But as I said, Myopia, PhD syndrome amongst others is to blame undecided

It not just African but black people in general . A lot of us do not know how to run or own a business. Looking at some of the posters on here, it’s not hard to tell why we do not hire some of our own .

tjsts why I intend changing the narratives myself in my own small way, running my own business and growing it from the scratch to top

I'm living up to my instincts as an Igbo man. grin (na joke o)
But then, if I can run a business and employ 10 Nigerians And another ioens one that hired 7 and another 8, you aee how we are slowly deleting the poverty chain

And we can hire exclusively ourselves, other ethnic groups do it, but black man will want to look good and hire randomly

Let us empower our people

True that

But building businesses is key to poverty alleviation

Our parents generation and the education that they formed for us plus the mindset is what killed Nigeria

The mindset of go to the uni, and be trained to be a bureaucrat /civil servant /job seeker ruined Nigeria
if it was a case of opening your mind towards possibilities things would have been better...

But it's all past tense tho
