A day to exam, you are reading and you didn't understand. Your lecturer and colleagues couldn't explain it better to you.....boy, you just have to cram to pass the course.

After the exam, you can go back to the library or check internet to read and understand that particular topic/course
how sure did you know that you can go back and study the material again cuz it is clear that once you pour it out it's all gone

I hear alot of people here say cramming is bad but trust me cramming is one of the most effective way to study but not just cramming alone, first you cram, you try to understand what you're cramming and next you ask yourself questions and you try and answer them,if you fail then you cram again, cramming is only meant for intelligent people who have a long memory to remember things because it is useless when you understand something and cannot put it in writing thats when cramming comes in,but if you understand a topic and you cram it and put it in writing thats makes you a Genius...all what i have cram 5yrs ago are still in my head!

We call it memorization not cramming. If you internalize what you memorize it becomes part of you. It is quite integral part of learning in Sciences, Engineering, Medicine and even Humanities.
Thank you oh. Everyone crams depending on the course; there are certain concepts, formulas, definitions, laws, theories etc. that require memorisation and there's nothing wrong with doing so.

Nigeria's problem is the non-application of what we learnt into real life if not we don't cram more than Singaporeans Japanese, Chinese, Indians etc.

I think it depends on the course of study. It may be possible to cram in Law. Not engineering courses or statistics

Political science
Cram and you are sure if getting a very bright E for your effort on any course Ken Nwoye teaches.

This are lecturers who promote intellectuals, and scores you on the level of solid Arguments you make outside the box.

I don't cram, in fact it's hard for me to cram.
I summarize details like it's Quantum physics, very small reading materials followed by large amounts of Google research.

Although I have a second class upper in political science
Many got higher grades by just cramming.

Trust me, when it comes to any arguments on any topic, they take the back stage and allow raw talents compete.

I do, some of my friends used to do. Especially if you are the type people come to for tutorials.

There are some courses you ll have better understanding days/months after written the exam and you probably want to teach others

I studied Physics and the only way to pass quantum mechanics courses in my school was to completely cram the lecturer's materials. If you try to read wide and explain in your own terms, you'll be on your way to an F because the lecturers don't even understand the concepts. All they do is to download other people's work and give it to us to photocopy and cram.

90% of nigerian first class are crammers. Zero understanding grin
This is the very first reason most Nigeria graduates can not perform excellently, I think one should take learning as a life time hobby whereby you read more books outside academics, such as leadership, financial management, marriage, motivation's, public speaking and the rest, our University assumes we are well prepared for career and when we step outside the University environment, we see that life is bigger and wider than just getting a degree, until we adopt practicality to all our tertiary institutions curriculum, we still have a long way to go,craming can make you have good grade's but the intelligence quotient can still be very low, brilliancy cut's across majorly paper work's but intelligence is about solving day to day challenges at every facet of life.

When you have a bad teacher who can't help you understand concepts and apply them to real life, you will definitely cram to pass. That is why British and American curricular excel over Nigerian curriculum. They test understanding and ability to creatively apply learnt concepts while Nigerian curriculum test for knowledge and ability to clone what you have been taught

. Are u for real? Everybody crammed something before you became psychologically matured. No one understood the principles of ABC but you crammed it all the same. You however grew into understanding the concept and it's relativity to sentence construction.
It is only bad to cram to pass when the concepts are not understood.

what's the essence of understanding a course that u cannot easily relate ur understanding to what happens in real-life?

I crammed all the past questions in Acc301 so good, that I didn't bother checking for figures and items while amswering 2 questions that was repeated word for word.

Cramming is a widely used study skill performed in preparation for an examination or other performance-based assessment. Most common among high school and college-aged students, cramming is often used as a means of memorizing large amounts of information in a short amount of time.
Buh to some, this approach is bad as sometimes this technique can lead to physomotor failure, an thence leading to unexpected information delivery.
Let me know your take about this.
That's the most foolish thing to do in school. Cramming is NOT learning! You better use your time in school learning than cramming!

You can't forget what you learned but you can easily forget what you crammed.

Additionally, you answer exam questions better when you learn, and you also defend your answers better!

it's called memorizing....intelligent people are good at it. Watch 'Child Genius U.S.A.' and you would understand how important it is...15 images of different colours were flashed on tv screen for 5 seconds for a 9 yr old to note and study the images. After which questions were asked; what colour was image no. 4? what image was no. 7? The child got it right.
The medical sciences memorize a lot.
Acronyms and mnemonics are useful techniques.

Cramming works hand in hand with understanding, for example you need to understand how to prove a formula before cramming it. Despite understanding, there are still things you've to cram.

"Cramming" is a nonstandard word to use for a person aspiring to become a scholar. It is even more alarming since foreigners have access to this platform, and might be wondering what the heck "cramming" means. The standard word that denotes the act of temporarily storing vital information briefly in the brain should be "memorising," not "cramming".

The right question should be “ARE CRAMMERS INTELLIGENT PEOPLE”
They might be intelligent, but definitely not brilliant. Memorising when learning is required is a huge disservice to education.

In your own words, what would you say is the difference between an intelligent and brilliant person.
