We had a case of a White Police Officer Van Dyke that shot a 17 year old Blackboy in Chicago 16 times when the boy was moving away from him. They try to cover it up but the outrage of the Video from the squad car set the whole city into fury. Who shot someone in the back 16 times and smoke was coming out of Laquan McDonald body. Yesterday , the jury found the White Officer guilty of 2nd degree murder. That's what we deal in here with Klans and Nazis infiltrating police units all over the country to murder minorities under the cover of the badge. Here we have people who don't know what life entails in America telling us that lives here all our life that they know what's better for us. So sad but I am not surprised.
Yea but you never worry about the killings going on in chicago. Blacks killing blacks..

Did you read what I said at all? I said teen parties in the 80s were wild. Boys get drunk and do all sorts of things with girls. Even the girls were not innocent.

I said pinning girls to a wall and kissing her or even grabbing some sensitive parts were not considered sexual assault then. It was all a game then, girls play hard to get and guys try to show machoness. Except the girls were raped they didn't make any issue of out it.

Lots of popular teenage movies then showed wild teenage parties featuring drinks, drugs and what will be considered today as sexual assault. Popular groups such as 2 live crew sang lyrics that would be considered as promoting sexual assault of women then.

Attitude towards sex and even unwanted touching of women only started to change in the 2010s.

It was only recently that any unpermitted touching of any part of a woman is considered sexual assault. Now you can be accused of raping your wife.

I am certain that even Dr. Ford did not see it as a big deal then, as I am sure she too must have drank some alcohol and attended a few wild parties where guys "sexually assaulted" her. She did not mention it for years. I am sure she is bringing it up now probably because of promptings from Democrats to scuttle Brett Kavanaugh's confirmation. She did not bring up the case all these years as Kavanaugh climbed up the judicial ladder.

I remember a few wild parties my friends and I organized then.
You are simply repeating the same lines all over. Does the fact that so many movies in the 80 saw teens participating in some few wild parties indicates that everyone participated? No. And for the fact that some of those that participated pinned girls to the walls and kissed, does it mean all of them did the same thing? Your logic doesn't hold water, friend. Anyway, the man is on his way to confirmation now, cementing a Trump's promise to get a conservative to the Supreme Court. Well, he just did it. Even CNN couldn't help but admire his success. Trump may not be the best but he is certainly winning.

I am happy that Brett Kavanaugh won because legal due process and ethics weren't swept under the carpet. Any allegation without concrete evidence should have no bearing in the scheme of things and everyone should be assumed innocent until proven guilty in the court of law. demonBRATS Democrats have no shame, they shamelessly turned the whole proceedings to a circus in the view of the whole world. Shame on them.

Democrats are cruel, selfish and hypocritical. They are full of double standards.
They remind me of the Godforsaken polithiefcians we have here in Nigeria. It's so pathetic how they are behaving these days since the general election loss.

Without taking sides, insult throwers are weak people with low intelligence. If they weren't, they would state their points intelligently and argue their position wisely, and even if the person they were responding to did not get it, they would understand that there are many more people reading what they have written who might have gotten it.

Insult throwers pander to their fellow insulters, an ignorant immature lot who argue their points sentimentality and get offended when their often silly position is not adopted. The wise and more mature would not stoop down into the muck with them, but would intelligently allow the insulter to bath in muck alone.

If one does not jump into the muck with insulters and stink like them, the insulter is more likely to notice they themselves are covered in stinky muck, and on seeing your unmucked person, detest their own muckiness sometimes, as happened to a person who recently decided insulting buda was the best way to put their point across. (I am still considering his case, but would appreciate if you like his apology to encourage him to behave unmuckily in the future please.)

As Americans would say, "be the change you want to see", if you can, I beg you all please. Those of us who come here have a lot to gain by being here but our gain is significantly reduced if we cannot see through the muck.
Well said... cool

The only political fallout from this event is that Republicans will keep both their Senate and house majority intact in November. I daresay they will even increase their senate majority because with this vote, five senate democrats are already toast

Justice Kavanaugh is now seated on the Supreme court. Democrats can cry me a river, that won't still stop them from getting the spanking that is coming their way in November

That turn coat need to be primaried, Heitkamp is in more precarious situation than him, she is still voting no.
He can't be primaried because the primaries are already over and done with. And At the moment, that his act of voting for Kavanaugh is what will keep his seat in the democrats column, if he made the mistake of voting against Kavanaugh, he would have been kicked out by voters in his home state. The only reason heitkamp voted as she did was because she is already 12 points down in her race because right leaning voters in North Dakota have already aligned with her opponent. If she voted yes, she would also lose left leaning voters too. Either way, she is doomed, only a miracle of monumental proportions will save her from defeat in November

Unlike you who is obsessed about something that will not add a dime to your life, couldn't give a hoot about who sits on the Supreme court. I am waiting for Nov 6 to take my pound of flesh and you can't say that in your wildest dreams. Less than a month from now Americans of note will cast their votes while you will still be wailing like a hungry dog on Nairaland. That's the difference between the two of us. YOU DON'T VOTE, YOU DON'T COUNT.
Re: American Politics Thread: Trump Is The 47th President! by Abbeybailey(m):
Listening to all the rabid racist a*s lickers Here, you will think Nigeria is a paradise and nothing is needed to add to her value. Charity begins at home but America is what gets their mojo kicking. PDP honchos are distributing money in Port Harcourt to buy votes and APC are having their National Convetion in Abuja just to continue to pauperize the country while most of their citizens are living in abject poverty. You don't see our cousins from the other side of the Atlantic worry about the Thieflicians destroying and mortgaging their future and children's future but the Supreme Court that has no effect on them is what gets their juice flowing. There's American Embassy in Abuja and Consulate in Lagos. If the people bastardizing Nigeria doesn t get your umbrage, go to the Embassy or Consulate to do the needful and maybe you will count and make a difference in America. Meanwhile, Nov 6 is on my mind.

That is true, their system is atleast far better than ours compared to the fact that votes count and you have a lot of career politicians, something we still do not have here in Nigeria.

But there is one particular aspect a lot of people simply do not consider when discussing American politics; the Electoral process. The US electoral system is so fundamentally flawed as such that it rubbishes the cardinal norm of the term '' democracy ". The truth is the United States is not a" true democracy" in the real sense of the term. The fact that a presidential candidate can win the popular vote and still lose the elections shows how undemocratic the system is. Notwithstanding whatsoever excuses they might put up to support it, the US electoral college system is the most devissive of all electoral systems in the world. It is a sham of unprecedented proportion, a system that breeds and entrenched inequality, segregation and class-based voting.

It is laughable when people describe the US as a democracy. The electoral College system effectively destroy that tag. The fact that the US is the only developed (and perhaps the only one) Country practicing this wantom aberration further bespoke the unpopularity and illegitimacy of the system.

In the real sense, democracy per elections in America is a sham.

I agree with you. The electoral system is a mockery of democracy, even Trump said it himself many years back. BTW, if Hillary Clinton had won by losing the popular vote and winning the electoral vote, people won't be complaining but that doesn't change the fact that the electoral college is a mockery of democracy.

America is more of a Constitutional Republic rather than an outright democracy. If the popular vote is to be utilised as practised in most other countries, You will find out that only two or three states (The Coastal States) will be deciding the Presidency: California and New York. These were the states that gave Hillary Clinton the popular vote. You can do the math and see. Every electoral system has it's own flaws but I think that their founding fathers designed it in such a way that no states would be neglected. Each Candidate will have to go to the nook and cranny of each States to campaign for votes. And that is why they have the Electoral College. Democracy itself can be mishandled with its attendant demerits and that is why most folks see it as nothing but MOB RULE. You may see it from a different point of view - I understand, but that's just my assessment.

When the democrat Obama won, did you see republicans going to the streets chanting "not my president"? ; setting things on fire and attacking Obama supporters? ; did you see republicans spreading fake news like CNN and calling for the impeachment of Obama? Before Hillary and The Donald wink started their campaign, they both knew that they were both subject to the electoral system over which Hillary never complained and she said(and her fans supported her on that) that Donald Trump must agree to accept the result of the election no matter who wins. Why are they now complaining that Trump won? Is it not double standard for them not to accept the result of the election?

In 2008, the republicans never burnt properties on the streets, they didn't call the impeachment of Obama and they patiently endured for the eight years of Obama's reign; they didn't protest and try to block people from attending Obama's inauguration, they never started a mini war like the democrats are doing today etc.

I do not seem to share your view about what Obama went through. There was so much fake news about Obama, it bordered on the absurd, and I'd go as far as claiming only Trump, in my lifetime, was more vilified than him. And Obama won the majority vote twice, I think. (Can I please be corrected if wrong, anyone?)

In fact, are you fakenewsing me, Martinez? I do not know of anyone attacking Trump supporters on any streets! I don't even think anyone would dare even! Trump supporters just don't sound like wimps who could easily be bullied!
