@Cassyrooy, your attention is needed.
Baby'm Cramming has never been the way I learnt things.

In secondary school I know must of my works by heart, and volume was never the issue.

Now in the University, for a field like Sociology (being one in University of Ibadan), there are few courses you could cram.

I've always prioritized understanding over cramming, because we're expected to finish the last leaflet of the answer sheets and probably get extra. If you cram, you can only get maybe 6pages but with understanding, you could elaborate more into 11-13pages and score full marks.

I go for understanding cos it gets stuck in my head than cramming. Sometimes I don't define concepts/terms but explaining to the simplest gets me more marks. On the other hand, the lecturer determines that as well, some will tell you ‘give me just as I've given you'.

So, just develop yourself while in school, application of knowledge comes later.

For me, I understand and cram...And yes, cramming is effective as long as you don't forget....There are times you need to cram and at other times, understand. And it also depends on the course. For example, being a medical student, I offered Pharmacology..and God help you if you don't know how to cram, you'll just fail (we had to cram a lot of drugs and their mechanism of action)....To cut the long story short, all I'm saying is that to be on a safer side just do both

I hear alot of people here say cramming is bad but trust me cramming is one of the most effective way to study but not just cramming alone, first you cram, you try to understand what you're cramming and next you ask yourself questions and you try and answer them,if you fail then you cram again, cramming is only meant for intelligent people who have a long memory to remember things because it is useless when you understand something and cannot put it in writing thats when cramming comes in,but if you understand a topic and you cram it and put it in writing thats makes you a Genius...all what i have cram 5yrs ago are still in my head!
#teamcram
you've said it all

Nnamdi Azikiwe University
Political science
Cram and you are sure if getting a very bright E for your effort on any course Ken Nwoye teaches.

This are lecturers who promote intellectuals, and scores you on the level of solid Arguments you make outside the box.

I don't cram, in fact it's hard for me to cram.
I summarize details like it's Quantum physics, very small reading materials followed by large amounts of Google research.

Although I have a second class upper in political science
Many got higher grades by just cramming.

Trust me, when it comes to any arguments on any topic, they take the back stage and allow raw talents compete.
very true

I studied Physics and the only way to pass quantum mechanics courses in my school was to completely cram the lecturer's materials. If you try to read wide and explain in your own terms, you'll be on your way to an F because the lecturers don't even understand the concepts. All they do is to download other people's work and give it to us to photocopy and cram.
lol very true esp your last sentence

My sweet English scholar, did you just say 11-13 pageshuh?? I weak abeg....

Anyway, I think understanding what's read trumps cramming. The former sticks longer. But there's also a place for cramming. For instance, someone who's prepping for, say Bible recitation, will likely do well cramming. Don't you think so?

Although cramming can really embarrass you if care is not taken. Lol

I'll do very bad at cramming. I've never liked it and haven't tried it. Last semester, of course you know I was sick but my books never stayed away. That's how bad I can't cram. For those that scale through using cramming, that's a special talent to have honestly, the best I do is to ‘code' my answers. cheesy

Coding is done by writing out the answer in a structured way and using the initials to form a phrase or something that's easy to remember.

It's simpler to recollect and easy to work out cos you just need to remember the outline, and you're good to go.
