Lol, are you serious?

Sienna is a pair for $340.
BMW is a single strut for £144, or $190. That's $380 for a pair.

How is the BMW cheaper?

Leave the guy, comparing pounds against dollars. Moreover different sellers have different prices on eBay. The same oem struts for the sienna is sold for $190 by other sellers.

All I'm trying to say is
On the long run
European cars are more reliable
And you don't have to replace parts on a regular
I can't vouch for BMWs cos I don't own one
But my sis does
She owns an e90 330i and she's not complaining
Agreed BMWs are unreliable
That doesn't make all European cars unreliable
My first point again
I'm in Abuja and BMWs are not going extinct
I seee them on a daily
Though mercs are the most used cars here

What do you expect from a car that requires premium unleaded fuel only and you use the lowest octane rating available? That's why the cars are no longer visible on the road. They are parked safely in the workshop or in the house of the owner. King406, were you using Castrol engine oil when you had the BMW? Have you ever asked if BMW uses engine oil that is for petrol and diesel or for gasoline engine only. Not all Castrol are Castrol especially the ones sold locally that is api sn and ilsac 4. The cars are still on the road, especially the new ones and if we ask, where is the vboot, regular Benz that every roadside mechanic can relate to, The Passats, the Bora and the acura? They have all Gone with the wind.
Stay on your lane. Quit asking ridiculous questions.

I had a 2011 E92 335i, bought directly from a US car dealer (not auction). It had about 55k miles on it, car was nice and quick. It bothered me with its heating issues which i was well aware of that bmw’s from 1998-2012 usually had. First incident happened on my way to kaduna where the car overheated, i took it to my mechanic and we didnt find anything wrong. Car was ok for about a month before the same experience occured again on the same road. At this time i was starting to get fed up because i consider myself a car enthusiast and i must confess i drive fast on that abj-kd road. after overtaking so many people who think their cars are fast, my car now breaks down and i watch the same people pass me by from the side of the road, i felt embarrassed. I decided to replace the entire cooling system, nothing happened for the next 2 months and note that i had another car, a 2006 c230 sport so the bmw wasnt a daily driver. My brother borrowed the car before calling me that the car has broke down with smoke coming out of the bonnet, it overheated again and he didnt notice fast enough until the head gasket blew. At this point i have had enough, i didnt trust the car again but still i decided to fix it and i read somewhere online that i should buy a headgasket that is thicker than the stock gasket. I really wasnt looking forward to experimenting anything without guarantee and so i sold the car together with my c230 and bought myself a 2011 E350 sport which i have been using for 1year 2months now without any incident. It is my daily driver and also what i use to travel. I must say that car may look all flashy and all but it is actually a tank grin. That is my story.

BMW will not just overheat on its own except the cooling system is not very active. Some use water while some use Abro coolant and the oil too is a coolant and if you use the right oil for the BMW, unless the car suffers coolant loss regularly, there is no way it will overheat when all factors are in order. The brand is good but I happen to know that the ones bought locally are prone to reliability issues than the US specs. There is hardly anyone bringing in European specs of these cars anymore. it is US all the way and maybe you should adapt to the oils for these cars especially that your sweet e350. Use the US spec of the mobil 1. The benz too, if properly scanned will be showing from time to time, cylinder misfire. Be warned, na so them dey start. Dont go about changing plugs, low octane fuel is doing ts job. It is not only turbo charged that requires premium, the turbo require a higher premium that is why Benz will write on your fuel tank 91 RON minimum. AMGs uses 93 RON and it is a factor why these cars dont last on our roads

obviously the cooling system had issues like i clearly stated, i replaced the entire system and yet the same issue repeated itself. I am not used to a car breaking down often without warning especially for a person that travels every week, sometimes very late in the evening. I lost trust in the car and didnt want to risk it which is why i let go of the car. I used coolant. I am aware of all the engine oil wahala, i appreciate your advice though, good looking out.

Spot on! In fact you are indulging these guys a lot. They always raise the issue of oil, 'Kazeem' and bad fuel. That does not apply. These comparisons are carried out in Europe and the US where cars are well cared for. The Japanese cars especially Lexus/Toyota and Honda always beat European cars in reliability. And European cars here include Mercedes Benz. BMW has never been marketed on reliability or no frills ownership. It is marketed purely on driving Dynamics and a lot of compromises are made on reliability to achieve this. Most European cars are over-engineered which means something is more likely to break than in an average Japanese with simpler manufacturing process. Truth is, old BMW's are money pits. In fact at the bottom of reliability ratings in Europe are still European vehicles like Rover(LR4, Range Rover) and Alfa Romeo.

So somebody should carry wahala and put for head just because he wants to enjoy driving. Abeegi, if Nigerians are brainwashed then Americans are also brainwashed because Toyota will sell 20 cars before BMW sell 1 car in the US. As at 2017 bmw has 1.77% market share in the us while Toyota has 12.35% market share.

BMW make solid cars, with top class luxury and performance features, but u are better off buying them when new before parts start falling apart because those things are expensive to fix and bmw are not known for their reliability. Most cars that come into nigeria are used cars, some 10-15 and even 20 yrs old. So u cannot expect someone save to buy a used car to now come and go and buy a used bmw that will send him back to the village. If u are rich enough buy them and enjoy life, if ur a hustler better buy something that is more reliable and easier to fix.
Wrong, BMWs are expenssive than toyota, besides you are talking USA, come to the EU the reverse is teh case, even American Cars cant compet.the UK alone makes more car brand than Japan.Toyota does what we call mass production.

Toyota makes cars no parking aid lol. Maybe a Yaris because even the new Corolla hatch back had parking aid. Toyota might make features standard in other cars as options for affordability, but it's high time u people stop comparing luxury cars with some basic Toyota cars. Imagine a friend of mine that drives LR4 and he happened to get inside a Toyota Highlander and he used that as a yardstick to bash Toyota. As in how does a Highlander and LR 4 compare, why not Land cruiser or Lexus LX.

You are missing the point. We are not talking tech, neither are we talking gear or car parts or even car engine. We are looking at a whole car..Every test conducted has rated the Japanese cars as more reliable than the European vehicles. The fact that Europeans produce jet engines is not material to this argument.

Here we go again. So the Highlander and LR4 are in tbr same class? Lol. How many SUVs do landrover make? The discovery which is the cheapest most practical SUV they have starts at around $50,000. So if I don't have that much I cannot own an SUV. While a Rav 4 starts at $29k or still get a Highlander for $35k, and not to mention the discovery is more likely to break down than the Highlander or Rav 4 (yes landrovers are one of the least reliable brands, we know how many of their range Rover and LR end up abandoned at mechanic workshop) while some sell theirs off at ridiculously cheap prices just to get the burden off them.

The same Toyota that made the Rav 4 and Highlander made the lexus RX 350 F sport which is better than the landrover Discovery in my opinion. The se model doesn't have leather seat and no reverse camera (yes, it doesn't have a reverse camera, u have to upgrade pay additional £7,500 to get that feature).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LvArN_3qSIg

Meanwhile how can someone in his right mind compare a Toyota Highlander with landrover LR4. Very soon u people will compare a range Rover autobiography with Toyota Corolla. The same Toyota that made the $15,000 Yaris also made the Lexus LS which gives the Mercedes s class a run for it's money.

Range Rover autobiography might look more posh and luxurious than the LX 570 (I will still choose the range if it was me anyway), but there's a reason expantriates prefer the Lexus or land cruiser because they know they are less likely to break down on them while also providing considerable degrees of luxury and comfort.

On the contrary, the more tech in a car, the more likely something is going to break. More tech means more complication. It affords more luxury and comfort but not necessarily reliability. This is a basic truth about cars. Read more about cars, their comparisons and reviews both by real owners and journalists...you may begin to understand the relationship between tech and reliability..

All these are plenty grammer no need going i nto all these, keep it simple, name one tech in toyota that makes it reliable over a BMW or an Audo, for each I will give you two tech that makes the BMW and Audi more relaible with facts and figures.

You're being obnoxious, erico2k2, and I'm not sure if it's on purpose.

Ever heard of The Toyota Way? If you haven't, read about it. It's the reason why Toyota cars are the most reliable on the planet. Toyota quality control is unparalleled.

Amount of technology in a car is inversely proportional to how reliable the car is. More tech equals more stuff likely to break down.

Toyota has gain an indubitable reputation for reliability by finding the perfect balance between tried technology and untried ones. Sometimes it means their cars a few years behind the curve, but that's a fine enough tradeoff if it ensures the cars last for much longer than something from the average marque. The fact that Toyota outsells every other car brand, pretty much in all markets of the world, is proof that that ideology is shared by millions of car buyers.
