How is everyone going? Who has questions; I can assist as much as I am sure of. If you are feeling stressed on the process; Verbalise it someone might have the information. If you need a sample of SOP; I can help with that as well. Ask questions, do not rely totally on your agents. They only care about commissions from affiliated schools.

I wish all expectants VISA GRANT!!!

@Amy3090,

Thanks for this post, i just got my unconditional offer from Victoria Univ melbourne and i really need the best way to answer questions in my background check

*Why do you wish to study in Australia? Please list reasons that helped you make your decision.
*Why did you choose Victoria University? Please list reasons that helped you make your decision.
*What other study destinations (countries and cities, and including your home country) and institutions have you investigated? Why did you not choose any of them?

Hello, fam,

You have been doing a great job here. God bless you all. I am a new applicant. I have three uncles in Australia, and they are all ready to take care of all the expenses. I was told to send my transcript, birth certificate, original waec result, and Toefl score. My transcript is the only thing delaying me now. Here are my questions fam:

1. I studied geology please which course is lucrative if I want to do my masters. (I am thinking of built environment like building and construction)
2. Is it wise for me to start a Bsc again?
3. Is diploma advisable?
4 what is the assurance of getting admission in an Australian University?
5. How can you rate my chance of gaining admission or entry?

I would also appreciate any advise or comment. Thank you.

Long epistle alert!

It all started around January last year when I made up my mind to enroll for PhD program in Australia. Those who have passed through this stage will perfectly understand how tedious the process is- starting from putting in place a novel research proposal, getting a professor to supervise your project and finally, securing funding for your program. To be honest, one needs to be highly motivated and dedicated to survive these hurdles.

I must confess, my dedication and perseverance really paid off after series of rejections as I was able to get the consent of three supervisors from different universities who were willing to support my applications. Between July and December 2017, I had completed the application process for admission and funding. To God be the glory, the results started coming out in April 2018. Two of the Universities offered me admission with full funding (stipend + tuition+ family insurance cover) while the third University offered only admission without funding.

Sorry, i forgot to mention that one of the Universities is in G8 (equivalent of ivy league) What a great news! Without waisting time, I quickly accepted the offer from this Universty for obvious reasons. Apart from the fact that the University is consistently ranked among the top 50 in the world, my department is also ranked among the top 10 in the world. In view of this, I had to reject other offers.

As soon as my COE was issued, I quickly submitted my Visa application on June 26, 2018. To avoid unnecessary issue, every document was submitted with my application. To my surprise, I got no response from DIBP on my application after three months. Then, I decided to send a polite email to DIBP on 6th October 2018 on progress of my application as my enrollment deadline was 14th October 2018. Alas, I got a refusal notice on 9th October 2018.

In the refusal notice, the visa officer submitted that she was not convinced that I met the genuine entry requirement as I do not have strong ties to return to my country despite the fact that I didn't not apply together with my family. She further posited that she was not convinced that PhD is beneficial to my career goal as a tutor. What an insult again!

The refusal notice was quickly sent to the graduate school and my supervisor. This unfair decision did not meet my supervisor well as she quickly sought the intervention of the University. In her email to the graduate school, she clearly mentioned that this is the most disgusting reason for visa refusal she has ever heard. While she has hoped for the intervention of the University, I understand that the University might not be able to reverse the decision of DIBP as there is no option for appeal.

Given this dilemma, it will be appreciated if any useful advice could be given.

Accept my heartfelt sympathy for the heartbreaking denial after investing so much energy. However, I think if you were explicit with details as regards your application then we will be able to see what might have triggered or informed the VO's decision on your application. Sometimes, the things that lmseem so little could mean alit because this visa application process is subjective to an extent. Kindly start by stating the school and your intended course of study , your previous study and possibly your current type of job. Then, your home ties. From there we could share ideas on way forward. Never give up, a denial is not the end of the vision. Your goal is still very potent. Cheers.

Your school/Uni may waive your English proficiency test but it's unlikely the current immigration would.

IELTS or PTE will do the trick although PTE is much easier.
Academics is much harder than General Training as you will need Academics level when you are aspiring on becoming a teacher/lecturer etc.

Thank you very much for your response. I am 27years of age. I don't really have a reason to go for BSc again. I just want to look at the different options available. I want a postgraduate course that won't take much of my time.

I would appreciate if any selling field can be suggested. A field related to geology.

Thank you!

I think you should appeal the visa refusal. Write to them stating why the PhD scholarship which is a life time opportunity will help you solve developmental problems in Nigeria. I believe you intend to return to Nigeria to continue your teaching profession, right?

Make this known to them.

All the best

What a shame! I do feel your plight. Unfortunately at this juncture you won't be able to do much as off shore applicants are not ligible for appeal.

The goodnews is that you can reapply yourself but make sure your circumstances has changed or your could used a registered MARA immigration agent.

Am not sure what documents you included in your application, but if you decide to do it youself make sure you include:

* A strong letter of recommendation(s) from your Head of Department and others (Headteacher) etc

* Ask for a contract of emploment which will commence at the end of your PhD program.

* Check your statement of purpose to see if you have written something that must have raised an eyebrow.

* Include your payslips and previous offer of emploment as well as bankstatement (salary account)

* Ietls is also important

* Make sure you have some funds in your account even thoj you are on scholarship

* If you have funds to support your family while not include them in your application?

Thanks a lot for leaving the substance in my post and pursuing the shadow. IELTS is not a free Ticket to Australia , I wonder why you made it your topic. My advice, remain calm and learn from everyone here. I learnt a lot here, someone told me my SOP was rubbish from this thread , I took it as a challenge and then he assisted me. See, getting a visa is one thing, then making it over here is another thing. Your credentials and packaging can bring you here but if you lack the right attitude to learn and relearn, hmm , you may just be surviving here. Within my 3 months here I can tell you how being teachable has helped me. This is just my one cent.
