Bishop Oyedepo declares Covenant University Sporting Complex Open

Today was the Formal opening by the Chancellor, Covenant University, Rt Rev (Dr) David Oyedepo of the awesome Covenant University (CU) Stadium and sporting complex. The 20th of October 2018 is the Founders Day and 16th Anniversary of CU and as such the opening and dedication was done in celebration. Other activities that took place at the opening were a novelty football match between male students and male Alumni which ended 2-2 as well as tug of war between female students and female staff of the university.

CU was recently rated the best University in West Africa as well as one of the best 5 in Africa by the Times Higher Education. It also broke into the top 1000 Universities in the world along with the University of Ibadan.

You are right. Abuad with even more school fees now has debt over N10 billion - though it is an AfdB loan with very little interest. CU by policy does not take loan yet they have great infrastructure.
I just wish the church can stop building more universities so that the ones they currently have can be better.

According to Highered this CU stadium cost approximately 500 million naira. Onikan is being renovated for 1.7 billion naira grin

Akure township i think cost 5 billion naira.

Beyond the fact that ppl must 'chop' down the chain for govt projects which inflates cost massively, another factor is that Oyedepo does not use foreign contractors which makes his budget lower. In 1999 when Faith Tabernacle was going to be built, Julius Berger requested for some billions and 3 years duration to complete the project, that didn't sit down well with him - he simply called all church members who are architects, civil engnrs etc after a particular service. Many of them came, they did a quick interview, sent some home and put the rest to work. After one year they had their church completed with just 100 million naira spent.

...congratulations to CU and most especially Mr. Oyedepo for the growth of the institution within such a short span of time. I remember a thread where he was quoted to say "Covenant University will be amongst the top 1000 globally before the end of the decade", I doubted the statement as it would mean leapfrogging UI and few SA schools to enter the top 1000 globally from Africa - just like that? shocked

No be every person I suppose dey doubt his/her utterances, I have learnt my lessons.

On the flip side, he looks good.
