paxonel: Lol, calm down and put your thoughts together. All I see here is hate and lack of logic. But I would address some poorly thought out points you raised. You spoke about the stadium and how sporting facilities affect a the intellectual development of the students and Nigeria. Every sane individual knows that one has to balance the physical body with the mental to be a total person. I don't see why you're stressing this. All the top universities in the world are regarded not just for intellect but sporting facilities. These colleges end up producing some of the best athletes in the world. Little wonder why countries like the USA perform well at the Olympics. Also not that ivy leauge schools are called that, cause of the ivy leauge sporting event that takes place amongst those private universities in America. This is the standard CU is modeling. Why are you refusing it? Hate? How does it affect Nigeria? Are you not sad that we have no good stadium to host sporting activities in Nigeria other than the one in Uyo. This opportunity from that structural edifice is endless. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.forbes.com/sites/ccap/2016/08/09/sports-and-university-academic-reputation/amp/ That's just a source to back information I have provided to you. Cause unlike you, some people don't rely on beer palour gists. You spoke about the webometic ranking and how sad you are about it. Yet you are sad about the significant achievement of the university to reach such heights. Are you not contradicting your self. Now about the webometic ranking, CU had done exceedingly great when you look at how far they have come and how old they are. In conclusion, you based your whole baseless argument on the stadium which in my view is a plus and shooting your self in the leg. But it would interest you to know that like Havard alumni and other great institutions around the world, CU has produced great achievers, the likes of : Ayokunle Adeniran, a US-based Nigerian mechanical engineer, invented an iron that works without electricity, Odunayo Eweniyi, Co-founder/COO at Piggyback, CEO of softcom Yomi Adedeji, even entertainment, the likes of simi. Even here on nairaland, the likes of darkid1 that was 2018 CODET (An engineering competition for all best projects and best graduating students in engineering, all universities in a Nigeria offering engineering are represented) winner and awarded by COREN. This is a university that is just 15 years old. They are doing just fine and deserve the spot, by merit and achievement. 6 Likes 3 Shares |

amazingspiderma:you should have started by telling me what i did not understand rather than saying i should ask question. Ask question of what? What the op clearly posted and celebrated which everyone have seen and commented? Look, there is decedence in intellectual development of nigerian students and building infrastructures only cannot solve that problem. |

PrecisionFx: https://www.timeshighereducation.com/world-university-rankings/covenant-university What you should be concerned with is methodologies used in ranking not saying no Nigerian university can be ranked in the top 1000 globally. If it's the ARWU, then I'm quite certain that no Nigerian university will make top 1000. P.S. The Times Higher Education, QS and ARWU are the most recognised ranking agencies of higher education globally. |

Excallibur: https://www.nairaland.com/1488315/oyedepo-covenant-university-among-worlds It's actually top ten globally, my bad. Top ten ain't possible, top 100 is. But for the school to attract world class talent (researchers, lecturers and students) to enable them actualise their lofty dreams, they would have to change their religious laws and be more secular. Top ten universities are not religiously inclined. 1 Like |

FrostyButter:i didnt say they affect the intellectual development of students negatively. Infact building facilities should be commended, but i am only saying these pastors have set up good universities yet the students are brain washed and not intelligent enough to see currently, how do see the perception of the international community to nigeria inspite our universities? one of the reason why i am speaking. If our universities were doing as expected, intelligent leaders and politicians should come out from them and do the needful. are these opportunities of national benefit or only rich nigerians who can afford sending their childen to covenant university will benefit from them? wrong!! I am happy about it and i will be more happy if the school have been graduating intelligent nigerians over the years who can question the pranks of oyedepo check all the universities above covenant and other nigerian universities, there are no pastors in their country who distort money from ignorant poor citizens to build universities the poor could not afford. is it not because these people went to havard that makes them to become achievers? There are graduates of other nigerian universities who have gone to havard and achieve more, not only CU. so shield your sentiment. my friend, even africa have been using charcoal to iron starting from the pre-colonial period stop deceiving yourself that this is achievement |

paxonel: So sad that the international community would applaud this and the black man wouldn't. Do you know the engineering principles that went into that? I can't even begin to deal. People are moving forward, you're talking about coal iron. It's a massive contribution to science and his name is well recognized and marked in the sand of time in engineering. Be that as it may, it's good to know you share some positive views about the future of Nigerian education. About pastors using poor people's money bla Bla Bla, that's something we hammered on over and over. 1) it would be very ignorant to say the universities are built with poor peoples money. So members of living faith are poor and it's their 10 naira offering that built the church? How would poor people give what they don't have? Is there sense in that? Or did you see where anyone was forced to give offering? Infact, living faith is the first church I would visit that collect just one offering, you tithe and everything as one. And after offering time that's It.no one begs you to bring your money. 2) there are so many very very very wealthy people in winners 3) those that cannot afford the fees of CU, and are members are open to a lot of scholarship opportunities. 4) even those that are not member, as a student you are open to the David Oyedepo foundation scholarship. I know over 50 people personally that benefitted from it. 5) would you rather have the rich people travel abroad to avoid the public school system or put the money back into the economy and industrialized areas like Ogun state that have benefitted greatly from having Covenant University close by 6) CU has been highly subsidized cause it is managed by a genius. Compare to any private university in Nigeria or abroad. Many are even packing up. 7) finally, let me tell you what inspired CU initially. A student with drug problems from the US where he was schooling was brought to cananland for prayer and rehab. The bishop was very sad that about the lack of discipline in universities, the perversion as well as waste of huge amounts to send a child abroad when we can do it here. The bishop is already a teacher, and teaches in a Bible school as well as as an architect in his spare time. If it were you, wouldn't you go for that? It's sad the way we Nigerians antagonize people trying to make a difference. Also, most of the things you see the man enjoying are gifts. When you have wisdom and you solve problems, one way or another, the consequence is wealth. Shalom. 3 Likes |

FrostyButter:before nko? Multiply 10 naira times the number of poor people in winners lets see how much it is forced? They all give willingly we all know that. But obviously they do it ignorantly because, these same poor people many of them did not go to school. Now, can oyedepo extract a population from the uk or america to ask them to give money continually every sunday? Its not possible, because most of the citizens in uk and america are learned people. yes! Tithing. Infact this is the biggest scam. If church members were paying offering, that is understandable. Now the church had the responsibility to educate church members about tithing but they are not, perhaps because they are benefiting from the faulty scheme. you can say that again. But are they intelligent people? These are the questions you should ask. Because as far the international community is concern they are still the same nigerians i know about this, winners chapel have been trying a lot on scholarships, they should keep it up, God bless oyedepo for this. this is very good the only industries i see in ogun state are church university and ota farms thats too bad Ok, the bishop i believe have travelled elsewhere and saw the good idea of building a university, why cant he also import the good values of those foreign education and inculcate them to his students in africa so that there will be no need to travel abroad to get good values? Must he rely on church teachings? Because the church teachings have been infilterated by faulty african values and no matter the facility, he will keep breeding the same kind of nigerians with low mentality and corrupt thinking even though they may be financially successful. drug problems are everywhere, infact we still have graduates from the same CU who are still into drugs, and i think the fundermental issue still remain educating the church especially of scriptures(which includes parents) which our pastors are not doing, because the african society is lacking the family upbringing too, infact it is even worst in africa inspite our conservative tradition our society is very deceptive, they will only praise you and give you gifts when you preach what suit their tradition even when the tradition is faulty unknown to them, and if you are not careful you will think it is God that is blessing you |

And CU has come to distrup the system positively, and its nice that you acknowledge that. Tithe is not a scam by the way, but if we drag that one and I start quoting Bible we would just derail this thread. Nice conversation. |

Times Higher, the most pronounced accessor of universities in the world and recognised by government and industry rated Covenant as top 700 weeks ago, ahead of 97% of American varsities. And no, America has 5,200 higher institutions of which only 200 make the top 1000 list. Universities like Regeant uni, Liberty uni, Oral Roberts uni don't even make top 1000 1 Like

barojana:the total Universities in Nigeria can not admit the jambites, every year about 1.5m secondary school graduates do write Jamb and the whole University can only admit 500000 so a spill over of a million every year,as long as NUC did right it home work, let Churches keeps building more University, when government failed,Church came in for rescue, not until a former Head of state took schools from the missionaries in 80's and converted it to government own, education was still so solid then, the then govt. took over primary and Secondary schools. |
