I am facing the same challenges as you but what i'm trying to do is to replicate what this Benjamin guy did https://magoosh.com/gre/2013/gre-student-post-ben-perfect-verbal-score/ - he got a perfect GRE verbal score.

Soluadebayo:
Guys, please help me out. I'm having troubles with my verbal. I have consistently hit 150+ and 160+ on Quant through practice tests, but my verbal has been consistently poor, the highest I have done is 147.

Please any advise?

I must begin by saying that I pride myself on being a very pragmatic person, I am the kind of "if I pass I pass and if I fail life goes on" person. But Gre got me extra Mawkish. I wrote my exam last week Thursday and it wasn't a good experience. The verbal was like the most abstruse passage I have ever read in my life, none of the vocab I read came out, thank God for American movies and novels in my life. The quant was bitter, oh so bitter, I had to stand up at a point l, went to the bathroom and cried, I asked God why he has forsaken me. But to the Glory of God he didn't forsake me. I ended up having 154V 156Q, 3.5 AWA.
I feel I deserve better in AWA tho.

I'm applying for PhD pharmaceutical science,
My research is limited to my undergraduate project, my cgpa is 4.50 and I sent my scores to the Following schools
University of Kentucky
University of Houston
Washington State University
University of Oklahoma.
I sincerely hope my minor research experience wouldnt be a deterrent to me getting an admit.

Now my greatest headache is the SOP. Any pointers from the Veterans would be much appreciated.

The book jumybecks intends to upload to a Dropbox or Google drive will be invaluable for writing a good SOP

That response shouldn't deter you. Firstly, Michigan Tech is cray. Since you don't have a publication at the moment, attach you last thesis as a writing sample. Then sell your ideas, professors often like people with brilliant ideas. Clearly expressed ideas can sway a professor in your favor. It shows your ability to produce independent research ideas in future, hence, your career trajectory.
4gunners:
Just received rejection mail from Michigan Tech citing low GP as the reason for the rejection. Though I applied for the spring admission as a litmust test as I av my eyes set on fall admission. I applied for direct PHd civil engineering.

My profile
My GP is 4.26/5.0
GRE 313(Q154, V159)

Should I drop the idea of direct PHD admission based on my GP and concentrate more on MSc. If otherwise, Pls suggest a school that is safe for me. I've applied to UW and UArK. I'm about to apply to USF but kept it on hold due to the outcome of Michigan Tech.

I am using Barron, Official GRE guide and Magoosh videos.

But if you have a short period for preparation, use Barron. Very effective.

I'd like some assistance with regard to choosing Universities in the US or Canada for admission and funding. I am not shooting for the stars and have modest and realist expectations as I've spent over $1000 already - exams, transcripts, and evaluation cry without even starting any applications. Looking to add another $1000 for application fees and official documents posting Lord! cry

Where do I start? I want to go for a PhD in Medicinal Chemistry / Pharmaceutical Science but it seems quite competitive from what I see on admission rates. I'm interested in Drug discovery and synthesis areas. Anyone with Uni suggestions, please.

My Profile:

Biochemistry 3.25/4 (WES)
Masters Organic Chemistry 3.42/4 (WES)
Tests: IELTS 7.5;
GRE General (Nov 14th; Manhattan first attempt V156 Q151)
Research Experience: +2years uni thesis projects + research internship abroad that led to a conference publication and international poster
Work Experience: QC Chemist + here and there med lab experiences. Unrelated work experience afterwards.

Unis I'm looking at:

SUNY Buffalo, NY
Washington State
Northeastern, MA

hey guys whats up?
i just retook the gre yesterday and i actually improved .
q=161
v=152
0verall=313
wanted a 160+ for my quant and i got it. gotta say tho,i have never been the guy to stress over an exam. i have always been that nonchalant guy when it comes to tests but GRE man that gets to you BIG TIME. NEVER HAVE I EVER CAME ACROSS A MORE STRESSFUL TEST THAN GRE.
could be mainly cause i made it a big deal in my head or maybe it is. most people say it was the same for them too so thats that. cheesy

so yeah i got QVQVQ and i did not study vocabulary or anything this time around.
advice for all the math/engineering applicants- focus on the quant section since ,i believe, thats the admission committee would look for(most schools). i wish i scored 170 on than but it is what it is and i am happy regardless.
one thing i noticed your score does not reflect how many questions you got wrong ,some questions weigh more so getting them wrong means a lower score so practice hard questions to increase your chance of answering them correctly with the time you have.
as for study prep , nova(very helpful for the math section!!! specially for remainder questions which i got two of them yesterday) ,Manhattan all series and official ETS prep guide is enough.i think anything else would be an overkill.
and one last thing practice trumps reading/studying. evenif you are not familiar with the subject practice questions on that would go along way than to contemplate on the topic for days.
if yall have questions about gre ,i am here to share my two cents.
thanks.
on to the next headace.....SOP and THEM grin

Good day, pls can u send me the ETS prep guide enefoaria@gmail.com thank you

1. Lucky you, most USA school careless about class of degree. And from the look of things 3.2/5.0 would be 3.0+ on a 4.0 scale, which is what most schools request as the minimum. So just google "wes igpa converter" to know you CGPA on a 4.0 scale equivalent.

2. Admission is on a holistic basis in most schools. Provided you meet the minimum requirement of the dept. in GPA,GRE, Toefl...you stand a chance to get your application reviewed. Funding is dependent on a lot of factors, the most important being availability of funding in your research interest. Just note that PhD are more funded than Msc. However, Msc admission is easier than PhD. So your take!

3. The cost is usually on the university web page. An estimate for US schools is usually between $20 - 40k could be higher or less depending on school. (I assume you meant only tuition)

My take!
Thanks a lot man

Please can i get practice materials for GRE exam? I intend to write the exam later this month and i intend to study myself for the next two weeks before writing it. Do you think two weeks is enough time to prepare for the GRE exam?

hey guys ,how are y'all coping up ?
so last week I was writing my SOP and a friend of mine a suggested we donate blood on the weekend and so we did.
only to find out I am HVB positive (hepatitis B ).
funny thing Is I pride myself in being we'll informed on stuff , yet I didn't know about hepatitis and stuff. hearing this kinda news in the midst of my study abroad preparation is both painful and motivating in a way .
my original plans were to apply to Canada ( I like Canada way more the the USA) but due to this unfortunate circumstance I have to apply to usa schools instead .
there is no medical test for f1 visa so I guess its a good thing .
anyway I just wanted to let y'all know this and be a support to anybody who can relate.
peace!

This would depend on what you're scoring in your practice test vs your target score and since i don't know either of that, i cannot really give you an answer. But on average, people use 2-3 months to prepare for the exam
