King James
New King James
Revised Standard
Amplified
Catholic
New Jerusalem
And many others.
Which version do you use.

I use King James. I think it's the first version
I plan to read the books in the Catholic bible also

I like NIV because of the notes that tell us which verses are not so clear in meaning or have different versions in the original manuscripts.

I like NASB too because it’s more literal, but unlike the KJV it is a modern translation based on the best available manuscripts that we have.

I think the KJV is a very inaccurate version of the bible because the creators didn’t have the resources available to modern translators.

These days it is mostly it's to back up my points when I engage in discussions about religion. A good understanding of the bible is very useful.

But that is very wrong. It would be better for you to read it in order to know the truth than for the sake of argument.

Read and compare it with the Quran with an open mind , that will save you from falling into the trap of the devil.

The Bible still remains the same 66 books, 39 we're written before the coming of Christ and 27 after His ascension to heaven. About 40 writers were employed by the Author who made them write information that's beyond their understanding!
After the last book was written, Bible scholars decided to compile all these little books in a single volume, that's why we're having the Bible as a book today. But sadly translating has caused a lot of problems because during the translation of these books misinformed persons included the ideology they believe in the Bible making it difficult for later readers to get the message as initially presented by the writers.
One instance is the title "God" while the writers made no distinction between one God or the other, the interpreters decided to render other Gods starting with small letters "god" making it seem like the title God becomes a name when it's written in capital! Moreover the inspired writers used names to distinguish between Gods but the translators uses title Lord or God in capital in replacement of the name of the Almighty God. Therefore names of other Gods appear in the Bible but the Author's name disappeared!
So it's critically important to first read about the translators and their translations from the opening words of each translation before completely relying on it!

Seun and my mother share surname but they are from different states, his my blood oh grin
Meanwhile @Seun, KJV is the first and other gotten their manuscript from it.
That the writers didn't have sufficient tools makes it even better.
The original Qu’ran too is in Arabic and many Moslems reject other translations cause of fear of distortion.

Enilove like Seun, I'm currently reading the Bible from start, I'm rounding up Job. I'm reading to understand arguments, get facts straight and know the truth. If Jesus did not know scripture Satan would have defeated Him at his temptation. If Paul didn't know scriptures those wise and learned Greeks and even Jews would have ridiculed Him and won arguments against him.
Read about Thomas Aquinas and others, knowledge of God's Word gives strength and acknowledging the power therein brings salvation.

Let's read the Bible for knowledge, discussions and edification

I prefer KJV and NKJV. Other versions are too edited and do not buttress the main points.

KJV is not the first translation, there are other translations before it. For example, the Bishop bible was heavily used in making the.KJV.

Also, you are wrong about using the KJV as a manuscript for newer versions. The Greek, Hebrew and Latin manuscripts used for translating the KJV are still available and older manuscripts are still been discovered.

What do you mean by ‘edited’? The KJV you have today has also been edited many times. The idea is to arrive at the best possible translation of the Greek and Hebrew manuscripts. That’s not to say that there are no junk translations.

I prefer the Catholic Version.
It makes use of the Choicest and most suitable words.

Take a look at Psalm 42 vs 1-2
[KJV]

As the hart Panteth after the water brooks,
so panteth my soul after thee, O God.
My Soul thirsteth for God, for the Living God:
When shall i come and appear before God?

NIV says
As the deer pants for streams of water,
so my soul pants for you my God.
My Soul thirsts before God, for the living God.
When can i go and meet with God?

The Catholic Version (NRSVCE) says

As a deer longs for flowing streams,
so my soul longs for you, O God.

My soul thirsts for God,
for the living God.
When shall I come and behold
the face
of God?

on a clear examination of the keywords in verse 1 and 2,
One can see that the Catholic version used the most suitable word.

unfortunately is used with respect to this thread. As for me, it was the best decision ever. Also, i made a mistake of saying that I stopped reading the bible in 2018. It was actually since 2016 and my life has not remained the same again.

The catholic version use to be my preferred version, until in 2017 when I prayed for the truth in the Bible to be explained, lò and behold I got the naked truth and I've long burnt the book. Yippee

Like I said, they do not buttress the main points and some verses are being removed. They try to translate it to a simpler form but it ends up being too "simple".

An Antichrist like you will love the NIV which is a corrupted Bible. It is missing about 27 key verses of the word of God. It even boldly states that Jesus is Satan. I have a thread on it, but your mods would prefer to move Tonto Dikeh threads to front page instead of educative ones. See thread below.

No wonder you are quick to condemn the King James Version which is most accurate and was heavily used by the early churches until modern versions came with perversions.

There's also the Geneva Bible. Both the Geneva and Bishops bibles are the predecessors of the King James Version. They all come from the same source.

The so-called older manuscripts are frauds. God would not allow his word to be buried for long only for them to be found now. The ones being found now contain distortions meant to confuse believers today.

They are what are being used for today's versions. Satan is behind it.
