Below is a Press statement from the Nigerian army made available to PoliticsNGR on the recent clash between Nigerian Soldiers and members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN);
Troops of Army Headquarters Garrison on official duty escorting ammunitions and missiles from Abuja to Army Central Ammunition Depot in Kaduna State were attacked by some members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) sect at Zuba bridge, of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) at about 3.00pm on Saturday 27th October 2018.
The sect who were supposedly in a procession, established an illegal road block denying motorists free passage. When the troops’ convoy attempted to clear the road block, they met stiff opposition from the sect. Members of the sect used various objects to barricade the road and also pelted the troops with stones and other dangerous items. They smashed both military and civilian vehicles’ windscreens and windows.
They also attempted to overrun the escorts to cart away the ammunition and missiles the troops were escorting.

Five members of the Shiite Islamic sect were allegedly killed yesterday during a clash with the military in Zuba, Gwagwalada Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). According to eyewitness accounts, a cortège of Shiite members was marching from Suleja, Niger State, to Abuja when they clashed with soldiers.

The group, in their hundreds, were protesting the continued detention of their spiritual leader, Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky, who has been held by the Department of State Services (DSS) since December 2015.

Sources said the Army shot and killed five members of the sect during the clash, which occurred at the Dan Kogi checkpoint at Zuba.

The sect members, clad in black outfits, were said to have rejected the entreaties of the soldiers stationed in Dei Dei, Dakwa and Zuba to back off and, instead, resorted to lobbing stones and other projectiles at the soldiers.

Despite their losses, as the lifeless bodies of their members laid on the road, the Shiite, allegedly, remained defiant as they challenged the military. They barricaded the road, causing a long traffic build up.

As the commotion broke out, pedestrians, traders and other people ran for their life, with many drivers abandoning their vehicles. Many people were also stranded, as commercial drivers refused to ply the road for several hours.

When THISDAY sought the reaction of the Director of Army Public Relations, Brig-Gen Texas Chukwu, on the development, he said he was unaware of the clash as he was out of town.

Shiite protests have become rampant and daring in Abuja since El-Zakzaky and his wife were put behind bars by federal government, after clashes between the sect and the military in Zaria, Kaduna State, in December 2015 led to the massacre of more than 500 members of the sect.

The Nigerian Army has been ordered by a Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt on Friday ordered the to pay the sum of N1.25million to Nollywood actress Ebere Ohakwe as compensation after she was beaten up by men of the Nigerian Army in February 2017.

They were also ordered to publish a written apology in at least two national dailies to the actress, Punch Metro reports.

Ohakwe, popularly known as Jewel Infinity, was travelling in a public bus from Port Harcourt, Rivers State to Onitsha, Anambra State when operatives of the Nigerian Army stationed at Omagwa axis of the Port Harcourt Airport Road stopped the vehicle for a routine stop-and-search and, in the process, physically assaulted her.

The Federal High Court presided over by Justice Adamu Mohammed had earlier ruled on the matter in March 2018.

Mohammed had ordered the defendants (Nigerian Army) to pay the sum of N1m to the plaintiff as compensation for infringing on her fundamental human rights.

But the Nigerian Army through its counsel filed an application to the court to set aside the judgment and resume fresh hearing.

Counsel for the plaintiff, Chime Chime, in a counter-application, urged the court to dismiss the defendant’s submission.

Mohammed, however, struck out the application of the Nigerian Army, stating that it lacked merit.

The judge awarded N250,000 against the defendants in addition to N1m the security outfit was expected to pay to the victim, as well as a written apology to her to be published in at least two national dailies.

Is the soldier attached to your earlier post responsible for beating up this lady? If not, why put up his pic there if he wasn't responsible.
And soldiers stopped a bus full of people and they just assaulted her? There has to be more to that, you just don't get singled out by soldiers and beat up. And no, not saying anyone deserve such assault, and the fact that it happens shows how backwards most people in that country still are.
And as for your threat to kill, tone is down, that won't solve anything. This jungle justice mentality is part of why we are labeled savages .

Army jails soldier for assaulting Nollywood actress

Port Harcourt – The Nigerian Army has jailed one Pvt. Suleiman Olamilekan to 28 days with hard labour for allegedly assaulting a Nollywood actress, Ebere Ohakwe.

Col. Aminu Iliyasu, the Army’s spokesman, 6 Division in Port Harcourt said on Thursday that the soldier would also forfeit his one month salary to the Federal Government.

Ebere Ohakwe and the soldier
He said the unprofessional conduct of the soldier contravened the army’s uncompromising stance to indiscipline and disobedience to both civilian and military laws.

“The 6 Division Nigerian Army has charged, tried and found Private Suleiman Olamilekan of 6 Division Garrison, Port Harcourt guilty of the maltreatment of Miss Ebere Ohakwe.

“Olamilekan was accordingly sentenced to 28 days imprisonment with hard labour and the forfeiture of his salary for the same number of days to the Federal Government.

“Investigation commenced after the General Office Commanding 6 Division, Maj.-Gen. Enobong Udoh ordered the immediate arrest of the soldier and his Guard Commander for investigation and disciplinary action.

“We wish to assure the general public that proactive measure have been put in place to forestall a reoccurrence of such misconduct in the future,” he assured.

Iliyasu urged residents of Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Delta and Rivers states to report any such misconduct from its personnel to the 6 Division headquarters in Port Harcourt.

Iliyasu urged members of the public to report to the Division of any such misconduct from its personnel in Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Delta and Rivers states.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that Olamilekan on Jan. 30 allegedly assaulted Ohakwe at Omagwa checkpoint along Port Harcourt-Owerri road in Rivers.

Ohakwe, who was on transit from Port Harcourt to Onitsha, claimed that she was beaten with wooden object by Olamilekan, after he accused her of insulting him while inspecting the vehicle.

The victim, who reportedly sustained bruises and admitted to a hospital after the assault, accused the soldier of infringing on her fundamental human rights. (NAN)

No Chief, i didn't hear about it when it happened lol, I left home 17yrs ago oga lol. So i have no idea who she is or what happened.
But yea, abuse do happen at the hand of some soldiers, not denying that.
Anyways, if that's the case, the army should dismiss the dude, and he should even be jailed, money settlement sounds like a civil lawsuit, but it should be criminal one, not civil, after that then she can sue for damages and harm done to her.
All good,at least she got a little justice, though not enough

Don't doubt it Sir, some soldiers can be very stupid. My friends have suffered before my very eyes for trivial things like "wearing ear piece"(N.B we were in a 14-seat bus), " walking slowly ", " dressing inappropriately "(N.B His singlet was longer than his shirt that's all)

NAF AIRCRAFT PROVIDE SUPPORT TO REPEL BOKO HARAM TERRORISTS ATTACK AT GASHIGAR

The Air Task Force (ATF) of Operation LAFIYA DOLE has provided air support for ground forces to repel a Boko Haram Terrorist (BHT) attack at Gashigar. The operation was carried out over the night of 27 and early morning of 28 October 2018, following a report from troops at Gashigar that their location was under attack. Accordingly, a Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) platform that was on a mission at another location was immediately redirected to Gashigar. In addition, a pair of Mi-35 helicopter gunships were scrambled to the location.

Overhead Gashigar, the NAF ISR platform was joined by another from the Nigerien Air Force and they both were able to identify the location of the BHTs, in 13 Gun Trucks, as they advanced towards the camp from 2 different directions. They subsequently directed the fire of the helicopter gunships and own ground troops support weapons towards the terrorists. The combined fire forced the BHTs to retreat from the camp. However, the BHTs attempted to regroup at a location outside the camp but were again engaged by the helicopter gunships and sent scampering in different directions, with several of them killed or injured in the process. The ISR platform and helicopters remained within the location providing necessary air support for the troops until the situation was stabilized and threats neutralized.

The NAF, working in concert with surface forces, will sustain the tempo of operations with a view to destroying all remnants of the terrorists on the fringes of Lake Chad and other areas in Northern Borno.
