The requirements for Uber driving in Canada can be found at this link, https://www.uber.com/ca/en/drive/

Forklift driving is a respectable means of livelihood for those interested in blue collar careers here. The training requirements vary from province to province in Canada. You can research the different requirements at this link, http://forkliftlicenseguide.com/canada

Forklift operator is a very good job with good opportunities available in all provinces. It is also a bit immune to seasonal job fluctuations that occur in the technical job sector in Canada. You can use the link posted to identify the requirements for your province of interest. Labour is expensive here. So all jobs requiring manual labour and skill pay well. I've seen unskilled labourer jobs for 28 dollars per hour. Just research well.

Took these photos yesterday, dont worry they arent so heavy, I have compressed them. It is called Notre Dame Basilica, Montreal, was built in the 18th century. Its a National Heritage Site, though they still hold daily masses in it. I paid $6 for an entry ticket.

God bless you real good for this piece. We hope to join una soon

We Landed in St.John's International Airport Newfoundland and went through immigration before heading to our final destination (Halifax, Nova Scotia). Going through immigration was straight forward, it took less than 30 minutes. We already had a temporary accommodation arranged so we gave the information for our PR cards to be sent there.

You are required by law to declare any currency valued at 10,000 Canadian dollars or more. It is not illegal to carry more than that, you are just required to declare it. Checkout Canada border agency for more details: https://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/travel-voyage/ttd-vdd-eng.html. Some banks in Canada provide the option to open an account before you land in Canada if you are worried about travelling with a lot of cash. Scotia Bank: https://startright.scotiabank.com/international-application.html and RBC royal bank: http://www.rbc.com/newcomers/moving-to-canada-resident.html offer these options. You can contact them for more details.

We Settled in Halifax, Nova Scotia. We came in through the Nova Scotia Provincial Nomination Program, we choose Halifax as it was the capital and most developed.

I love Halifax because it is not to small or too big. There are 2 african grocery stores there, so finding food stuff was not a problem. Also most supermarkets sell alternatives which can be substituted in place Nigerian food ingredients. I wrote about this on my blog: https://9jaincanada.com/. We stayed in a temporary accommodation for a month, this gave us a chance to get to know the city before committing to signing a rental lease for a year. We choose to rent in the Clayton park neighbourhood where most people with families live, it also had access to local amenties such as shopping, supermarkets, public transportation etc. This was important to us as to we were not driving at that point. Point2homes is a good place to start if you want to have an idea of how much it costs to rent or buy a home in your chosen city: https://www.point2homes.com/CA/Rental-Properties-Listings.html

We choose to rent for a while, however if you are sure you will be permanently located where you land there are mortgage plans for newcomers with no credit history. You can be a home owner with as little as 5% down payment. You can buy a decent 2 bedroom home for about $250,000, this is affordable compared to house prices in Vancouver and Toronto.

Settling in was tough as our little one was under a year old. My husband was the first to go to work, I followed after finding a suitable daycare for my little one. I called around and went for tours before finally choosing a daycare. Children start elementary school at the age of five except in Ontario where they start at the age of 4. There are english and french-immersion schools available, no fees are charged. French immersion schools teach kids mostly in French with some english. Teaching in french reduces as they advance classes. This gives your child the opportunity to be bilingual which also opens creates more opportunities for them in the job market. If you get the chance to enrol them there, take it.

If you are coming to Canada without your significant other, it is possible to combine work and taking care of kids. It will be challenging, but planning ahead will help a lot. You can enrol kids who have started school in an after school program, childcare fees are subsidized if you earn below a certain amount annually. Also have backup for when kids are sick and sent home from daycare or school. Talk to people in the Nigerian community and babysitters in advance so you can compile a backup list for unplanned emergencies.

There wasn't really much of a culture shock for me, people in Halifax are nice and were always understanding and ready to help. Take it all in your stride and don't worry too much, you will be fine.

The trick to surviving winter period is investing in proper winter clothing and keeping up to date on the weather forecast. I will be writing about this in full details in my blog this sunday: https://9jaincanada.com/.

There is currently no Nigerian food restaurant in Halifax, however i have visited some in Toronto and Calgary. Food is quite expensive if you are comparing it to how much you would buy it in Nigeria. For Canadian standards, it is affordable.

Yes, you can start any business you want, there are numerous programs to support newcomers looking to start businesses in Canada. Your local immigrant serving organization can help you with this. ISANS is the one available in Halifax: http://www.isans.ca/ . They run training programs for people looking to start businesses in Canada.

Cost of living in a month is a personal decision to be made individually as preferences vary.

If you cannot do without to the hustle and bustle of Lagos, then Halifax might not be for you. Calgary has a huge Nigerian community after Toronto, it is also more affordable in terms of house prices and cost of living when compared to Toronto and Vancouver. This might be the place for you. Don't be dismayed if you also don't like the city you land in, gather some experience while you're there, then package yourself and research where to eventually call home.

I am not sure if this is helpful or relates to what we discuss here, but I hope to show guys a side to Living in Canada they may not expect.

Yesterday, while shopping at Walmart, I decided to grab burger and coke at the McDonald's corner of it. Not long had I sat down, did a lady sitting adjacent to me say hello to me. It was very unusual cos here people rarely talk to strangers. I replied hello with the fake oyibo smile everybody here wears. Next thing she asked you are from Nigeria right? I just thought to myself, well we are the most populous black nation so its an easy guess, I forgot there are way more francophone africans than Nigerians in Montreal. Before I could reply, she quizzed "You dont look Igbo, yoruba or Bini and you dont have Iyanya's people face either, what part of Nigeria are you from?" At this point I was startled. I told her she is right, told her my hometown. She admitted she has never heard of the place. She went on to say I must have landed recently, I was like this one no dey use jazz so? Before I could ask how she knew, she said my paying for another cup of coke gave me away. I didnt know when you buy a cup of coke at McDonald's, you can simply go take more coke for free with the same cup, I have been paying for extra cup of coke like everyday since I landed o, money wey i no get o embarassed ...

She and her friend engaged me in a lengthy fun chat, she was even speaking small pidgin at some point of the convo. The more we talked, the more it dawned on me that she was only Caucasian in skin, at heart na almost Nigerian. I asked how she knew so much about Nigeria, "I have been dating Nigerian men for years" said she. Her friend chipped in "they keep breaking her heart but she cant help it cos they are always so gorgeous". Told me of how they selfishly keep demanding money from her and make her get in debt just so they could send money home.

According to her, she has been with men from other west african countries, but those were just sex, its only nigerian men she dated/married, at this point my ear stand like local dog own. She made some remarks about a particular nigerian ethnic group and their habbit of having pussies everywhere (thats exactly how she put it o). She sounded like she has been at both the sweet and bitter side of that habbit of theirs.
At this junction, I remembered I have been told some white ladies have a fetish for black guys. Before I remember my papa name, she don ask wetin I dey do tomoro, say she go come show me around town tomoro. I com just rizin am say based on one thing, one thing, I dey relocate from Montreal tomoro. Her countenance changed, she just sad one kain like pikin wey go make pet out of christmas chicken when watch night don reach.

Her friend helped her out, told me she has taken a liken to me and asked if I was married or had a girl in Nigeria. I was perplexed, shuu na just barely 30mins we don know o! time wey no go reach naija babe decide which of her wrong number she go give you. I was like na now I understand how G boys take dey do am! No be juju, no be smart up anything grin... Anyways, we took the metro together and chatted even more, getting off the subway, we realised our buses were different but sister say she go like join me in mine to see me off before she goes home. Ibaboo! even if na night dem born me, no mean say na last night na, this format no go work. I sha just use style persuade am say make I see am off to her bus instead. As I waved her goodbye, she kept asking if I was sure I didnt want to join her. Well I sure pass roll on, so I just smiled calmly and said goodnight. Na so my fuse take survive the direct voltage o. Aside the obvious card she was trying to throw, I enjoyed the time with her, i think she is a sweet soul. She says she has helped a couple of nigerian refugees in the past, according to her they easily find work as caregivers and are known to be so polite always saying "ma and sir" to the old folks they look after.

So, guys here is one of the culture shock you may experience. Firstly it takes nothing here for some ladies to clear you their mind. As much as it is possible that she could have been genuinely attracted to me, I think it falls into the category of white ladies who just fancy black guys. I hear some of them feel y'all are horses in bed and know how to make a woman feel loved lol. So if you dont mind the risk of being a sexual experiment; your race rather than your personality being your selling point, then you go enjoy tire be that.

Seriously, i use to feel someway about interracial relationship until i made a deep research and found some very disturbing things. Most white people who are in relationships with blacks, do so just to achieve their disgusting fetish. The men who come to africa to pick a wife or marry any black lady, often have this thing they call "jungle festish". Its a kind of fetish where they crave to satisfy themselves with a jungle negra just like it was during the slavery era. When you get to see how these white people feel about blacks, you would be beyond shocked. Nice writing by the way

Baba pick race here. lol grin grin grin

Ah na so your montreal adventure for just take a different dimension

You are gifted bro. I think you should just put your stories together in a blog. I enjoyed reading this and the other one.

By the way, your assertions are right. Those girls feel every black guy is a horse. Good stuff you ran away.

That's quite a generalization isn't it? Same as saying every Nigerian is into 419...

Hahaha very funny experienceSeriously, i use to feel someway about interracial relationship until i made a deep research and found some very disturbing things. Those white people who are in relationship with blacks, do so just to achieve their disgusting fetish.
