A bird known as the Western Osprey (Pandion Haliaetus), was recently caught in Jigawa. The bird which is rare in Nigeria, was reportedly caught on Thursday, October 25th at Malam Madori, Jigawa State.

According to the persons who caught it, the bird also known as sea hawk or fish hawk is purportedly owned by the University of Helsinki, Finland, as a ring bearing the information was spotted on one of its legs.

After much celebration for the rare bird, it was released and allowed to fly at the Baturiya Wetland Reserve in Jigawa.

A Facebook user Abubakar S. Ringim and a graduate of Zoology, took to the platform to write;

Osprey Pandion halietus caught on 25/10/2018 at Malam Madori, Jigawa State. The bird came from University of Helsinki, Finland. Available records from the University revealed that the bird was ringed 106 days prior to its caught in Jigawa, and covered 5808 kilometers during it's migration to winter in Africa, in particular, Nigeria. The bird were celebrated and successfully released today at the Baturiya Wetland Reserve in Jigawa.

This bird should be allowed to fly away, it’s part of an ongoing academic research and has probably been injected with something.

in the south. Some one would have given testimony on Facebook how the bird was sent by her grandmother in the village to spoil her destiny

That it was ringed by someone in the university of Helsinki doesn't mean it is owned by them.
This is called Tagging..
Banding is a type of tagging
There is also telemetry, a small electronic device attached to animals to track their migratory pattern.

Naaaah it wont have been eaten. It would have been burnt as a witch that 'missed' road

You just had to contribute nonsense to the discussion
