I do not buy into the absolute theory that nothing good can come out of certain set ups.
If someone with good judgement spots a good talent in non league, the very least we could do is xray him ourselves and not just dismiss him with the wave of a hand

That is not what is being said.

He needs to step up and prove it. Ofcourse, there are talents in lower leagues but the test of how good they are is when they step up.

Obafemi is already playing games in the EPL. He is not among the 100s in academies. He has made the step up to the first team

He is playing in Southampton a team in the relegation zone, a mere shadow of its former self. Getting too play a few games for Southampton is not a sign of outstanding quality just good potential. Even at 18 you don't just make the team you lay claim by performance.

It's possible he may come good but as a call up for the SE not yet maybe U20 yes.

Has he been on loan and been outstanding, how many professional games has he played❓

What I am saying there are many boys of Nigerian origin who are in academies, some are good some are not exceptional.

I know too many who played a few games to make it easier market them to lower clubs. Jerome Sinclair a teenager came from West Bromwich for the sum of £1million. He played a game or two for Liverpool, possibly one of the youngest to play for Liverpool.

As a result Watford bought him for £5 million but he struggled, then went to Birmingham and struggled more. He is now at Sunderland and is way behind Josh Maja.

Ike Igbo plays for Chelsea has gone to league one after a few other loan moves he is far from impressive.

I was talking to the head of an academy in the EPL and we agreed that 80% of academy players would be lost in non league.

What I am staying you need to be proven quality irrespective or the level not just assumption of quality.

many assumed that Sadiq Umar was outstanding quality. I was not convinced, now he can not make the bench at Glasgow Rangers.

so you are okay with losing a potential diamond in the rough, because the opportunity to step up missed him..
You may be, and it's fine but I don't buy it.

I think Moses should get that Rooney treatment. He needs to bow out in a more ceremonial way. How about playing his last game for Nigeria against Seychelles after we have sealed qualification. Then it would be Moses&TeamNigeriaUK VS Seychelles? Of course I don’t expect most of you to agree grin

Or better yet, finish where he started — Another AFCON.

Meanwhile Michael Uchebo (remember him grin) is on the verge of joining Enugu Rangers according to reports...

Usumi to Rangers again? He didn't do that well the first time before he left for greener pastures in Europe. I was drenched in the rain watching him play for Rangers at the national stadium enugu in 2007 against the defunct JUTH of Jos. Every hommie in Achara layout then was raving about him as a hood guy playing for the antelopes then

Aneke needs to prove himself on a higher level. You can not invite him based on his league 2 performance, it does not tell us how good he is.

Sorry he waa outstanding in league one infact from AM and SS he had over 10 goals and 10 assists. He waa the stand out numerous one player in league one. Yet his club got relegated that not withstanding multiple clubs wanted to sign him.

Wanted by multiple clubs in the Championship But MK Dons refused to sell.

Don't forget Ademola Lookman, Gomez, Dele Alli, etc were outstanding in lower league and went straight to the EPL.

So that proposition doesn't hold as proven.

Is he outstanding is he the top player in his league, Resounding YES.

Like I always say better a Lion from a lower league than a mouse from the EPL.

Chucks Aneke isn't the first and neither will he b the last English player of Nigerian origin to perform well in the English lower division and its academy...we have had them plenty in the past...but how many of them lived up to their potentials? The quality of football in the league two is far too low to use as a basis for qualification to the SE..maybe for the age grade teams....

Talent doesn't hide.. If he is good enough,in a few years,he will be playing at a better team..and if that happens and we lost him,no problem...heaven won't fall..

But for now,its a no! we have better players out there . Chuks can try out for the age grade teams...

English football is intrinsically corrupt.

It's not as easy the best player club administrators, recruitment are looking mostly for the best DEAL AND not necessarily the best player.

The stories I could tell.

That's why the FA Cup is such an eye opener, you see non league clubs beating league clubs.

'Make your chance count' – Ike Shorunmu advises Nigeria goalkeepers ahead of South Africa showdown
Taiye Taiwo
15:54 13/11/2018

One of the trio is expected to start in goal at the FNB Stadium on Saturday as the Super Eagles will be without their first-choice shot-stopper

Former Nigeria goalkeeper Ike Shorunmu has charged Ikechwuku Ezenwa, Theophilus Afelokhai and Daniel Akpeyi to maximise their opportunity when called to be in goal for the Super Eagles’ game against South Africa.
Nigeria, Group E leaders, will take on Bafana Bafana in their penultimate 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers at the FNB Stadium on Saturday without Francis Uzoho.

The Elche goalkeeper was replaced in the 23-man squad by Enyimba’s Theophilus Afelokhai for the crucial outing after suffering a fracture in his rib during an encounter in the Spanish second-tier.

And Shorunmu who represented the Super Eagles at the 2002 Fifa World Cup has advised the trio to give their best for the team and also lauded the inclusion of two goalkeepers from the Nigeria Professional Football League in Gernot Rohr's squad.

“Their invitation to the national team is a good development for the NPFL," Shorunmu told Goal.

"I remember I said it sometimes ago that we will get to a time when goalkeepers in the domestic league will compete for the no. 1 position in the Super Eagles.

“The decision[for who will be in goal] is left for the goalkeeping department to make because what we see might be different from what they see and what they want. I believe the three goalkeepers are ready to play when called upon but the decision is left for the coaching crew to make.

“In the case of Uzoho, he's having a good momentum but we just need to be patient with him and some other goalkeepers that will come around to give him pressure that the place is not for him. For me, the No. 1 spot is still opened but the thing is that when you get the chance you make it count.

“The department is sensitive and there is no policy but my belief is that they should just continue with their impressive displays because the longer they stay in the team, the more experience they acquire.

"I remember when Enyeama came to the national team, I told him I'm leaving the team and you have a good quality as a goalkeeper, and thank God at the end of the day, we can see the number 1 in him."

Nigeria will aim to avenge their 2-0 defeat to the Staurt Baxter’s men in the first-leg of the Afcon qualifiers at Godswill Akpabio Stadium back in June 2017.
But the former Besiktas and Zurich goalkeeper has warned them to avoid unnecessary pressure and errors as they target to secure their place in next year's continental showpiece in Cameroon with a win.

“They should not give themselves unnecessary pressure and let the spirit of the day take care of the game, when you look back that we lost at home, definitely we made mistakes and there is always mistakes in every game but they should minimise their mistakes,” he concluded.

I don't expect to drag this argument on for too long, this will my last contribution.

It's not like the recommender is concluding after watching him for two games or so, or even this season.
He seems to know the player inside out and has watched him deliver in the championship before.

Calling out his eye for talent surely is better than the rubbutal I see here tbh.

In the end three points for the super eagles against SA is the immediate concern. Anything else is derailing, to a degree

I think we should treat every game with seriousness and use spare games to try out players knocking on the door of the Super Eagles and those in the squad who have not gotten a good run of games. It could use to test new tactics of the current team. Better than wasting it on players who will not contribute to the near future of the Super Eagles.

things are not always black and white in football, everyone should know that.
Nobody is saying invite him, make him the main stay and try to force him to deliver.
It will hurt no one to take a closer look to see if there is anything there or even take a small gamble, that can be quickly ended if it doesn't work out

So is that the reason why we played a friendly in Port-harcourt? Should we sacrifice simple logic as regards the inferior quality of the pitch in question just because we want to satisfy our culture of rotation? Did Pinnick give a reason why he insisted on PH and now Asaba? Mind you, I’m from Delta State.

The world cup that was played on worldclass pitch, he had nothing to show for it. The southies won us in a good pitch,

So pitches shouldn't be the sole consideration in awarding our match venues.
