This follows the 2019 University Rankings which placed Covenant and UI as the only two top 1000 Nigerian universities.

Uni of Ibadan should be given special funding. But nepotism and tribalism wouldn't let Naija be great.

Apparently, UCH stands out amongst others. UCH is the research hub for medicine in Nigeria and is being funded specially by the government. It's good to know yet again that we have schools that can compete favourable with others around the globe.

Because I tend to agree with more funding but don't understand your other angle knowing fully well that UI gets the highest renumeration from the FG,except ABU.

Well, most of Nigeria's Nature publications emanate from UI which is evidence of top notch faculty in that specialty. It is however not evidence of top notch facility or good funding as most of UI's reputable publications are co-authored with foreign varsities. However, if UI is made a flagship university with increased funding then it would be able to localise its research which would bode well for the Nigerian public. So while UI has great academics like Gureje Oye, there is real dearth in funding than can allow them explore the full breadth of their intellect.
UI, UNN, ABU hover about 11-15 billion naira per annum in FG allocation. However, in light of UI's excellent track records we(UI academics and enlightened members of the public) are requesting 30 billion naira/annum in funding for UI. If this is done it would cause a ripple effect in the NUS as UI is the leading provider of PG graduates into the NUS. But this call has repeatedly fallen on deaf ears as the people in Govt are guided by nepotism and tribalism when formulating policies...

Yea but the funding is still poor. I imagine what UI could do if given more funding in Medical sciences.

Good. They should consider their computer science department. CS is one of the cheapest courses to practice in Nigeria and I expect the department to be re adapted.

Continue doing the work CU and Living Faith paid you to do.
Nigeria-trained doctors are performing well globally and our institutions need no validation from any organisation the way your Covenant needs it badly to survive.

What are their criteria for the ranking?
Based on lecturing abi research and development abi na based on performance if their students or quality of studies.

Top 400? I guess it's an achievement, maybe 10 years from now we might see top 200.

If this shithole nation is ever to make something of itself, then we in the South, Yorubas, Igbos, Efiks, Ijaws, Itsekiris etc must start dominating politics in the same way that we dominate the intellectual and cognitive public space. Ab-okis can form their own country where all the schools will be madrassas and every female student will wear the full face veil and hijab.

That's the nepotism he's talking about with the skewed system that favours the North. In developed countries, the top universities attract the highest funding but can you explain the rationale behind ABU getting more funded than the likes of UI and UNN when ABU is nowhere to be found in any of these global rankings.
