Restructuring has to do with the corporate management term for the act of reorganizing the legal, ownership, operational, or other structures of a company for the purpose of making it more profitable, or better organized for its present needs.

With the recent ongoing cry for the restructuring of Nigeria, here are top ten things that would happen if Nigeria is restructured.

1. No More Federal Allocation: The normal trend of states waiting to receive allocation/ "oil money" from the federal treasury will become a thing of the past.

2. States Will Control Their Resources: The various states in Nigeria, will be in full control of their resources. Take for instance, Enugu; the coal producing state will be in full control of how coal is mined, transported and exported without the interference of the federal government. The federal government will play it's role by ensuring the coal mining follows due procedure.

3. Less Power in Abuja: Currently, Nigeria runs a very a expensive government because of the centralized power in Abuja. If Nigeria is restructured, power no longer rests solely in Abuja, but is shared equally among states. This implies that states can have their own separate laws guiding them.

4. State Policing Will be Made Possible: Imagine a Nigeria with a police force bearing the name "KAPD" standing as Kano State Police Department. The various states in Nigeria will be able to be in full control of their military; with Abuja overseeing them all.

5. Government Workers will be more serious: Restructuring this country, is sure to make civil servants serious in carrying out their responsibilities as there would be competition among states to have the best output.

6. Unemployment Reduction: Restructuring Nigeria will reduce the rate of unemployment; because the 36 states with mineral resources will begin to explore and harness their resources leading to a new era of utilization of these human and mineral resources.

7. Increase in Healthy Competition: Nigerian states without good healthcare, schools and public infrastructure will begin to work hard to provide such, so that they can be seen as good among their counterparts. For instance, if a state is not doing well in providing quality education; and sees people leaving the state for other states that state can decide to work hard to improve the education infrastructure to see that it competes with states with the best education.

8. Less dependence on Oil: Due to the fact, that states now control their resources, crude oil will no longer be the main source of revenue for the country; leading to the increase in diversity in revenue generation. Some states could go into manufacturing, some into real large scale Textile making, some into full time agriculture.

9. General Development: The country will generally develop. Each state will be responsible for the improving a key sector of the economy leading to massive development.

10. Nigerian crude oil could lose value: With the dwindling price of oil, and the growing concern about carbon poisoning caused by crude oil, the world is moving toward a green environment. Hence, revenue generated by oil in the south south of Nigeria will make little or no sense in the international markets in the nearest future. By 2020, many countries in Europe will begin the use of electric vehicles.

Well, first all, you should realize that every single politician and their lackeys, beginning from the president, every staff in the presidency, the senators, permanent secretaries, ministers, every top official in all ministries, governors, commissioners and every state house of assembly staffers, down to local government chairmen......none of them wants a restructured political system.

None of them wants anything that would require them to actually work for their money, or actively compete for their services to remain relevant.

Restructure is the masses language. It strikes fear into the heart of the political leeches all over Nigeria.

What allocation would go into taking care of all the bogus projects in Abuja? grin. The FCT will almost instantly shrink to ¼ it's present size in a truly restructured setting.

I support restructuring. Like I have always said the major problems of Nigeria are ethnicity, religion, illiteracy, and poverty. But the main problem among others enumerated is ethnicity.
Nigeria as a country has numerous ethnic groups with enormous disparities in thinking and ideologies. Countries like these find it hard to implement policies that benefit the sovereignty. Instead, ethnic agenda supersedes the sovereignty.
Recently, I had a discussion with a former corper(NYSC) colleague of mine over implementing a tough policy to curb Nigeria population explosion. I outrightly suggested every couple with only two children should be supported educationally to make Nigeria's focus on job creation instead of procreation. The response I got really astonished me. He blankly tagged the idea a southern agenda. I politely asked him why? His response was more shocking. He said the numerical strength of northern Nigeria will be tempered with.
Whether we like it or not every policy invented in this country whether good or bad will be scrutinized base on the ethnic benefit first, before the national benefit.

Lie.only by rigging. Buhari is no longer popular in the North. North is divided. Northern leaders also refuse to endorse neither candidates

1. Your list has given a defination of your perspective of restructuring, and I love it.

2. We need good laws and policies to make it work.

3 is Buhari on nairaland?? Because he need to see this list.

My fear is that some state mostly in core north can stand alone in all sense with restructuring, which is why some people are against it

how can Abuja 'fact,' occupy a total of 7k land size/area, while big countries like USA had just about 177h land area as their capital. in a true federal state a capital is not ought to be larger than regional states.. they should restructure. Abuja is not supposed to be developed at the expense of other cities/states where you can find population.

take example of Washington DC. economically, both in infrastructure, there are other states and cities that are more developed, populous than her as US capital.

Let us change our system fully, if we truly emulate USA as a federal State

No!!!!!

1) states like bayelsa that receive over 800% more grant than most populous kano have NOTHING to of development, why? The leaders are stealing the money
2)enormous corruption and looting
3)excessive tribalism and nepotism
4)uneven development across the country
5)poor leadership in each state
6)long period of time before states get their acts together
7)most states have NOTHING to depend on
8. )no federal grant means states like jigawa, nasarawa, kwara etc cannot afford to pay their civil servants
9)it takes decades to build an economy which means all the states must go back to the 19th century
10) there will be war and chaos
11) with the current living hardship no state can bear economic building
12) states controlling their resources means enormous theft, all the thieves in each state will have access to state treasury and they'll surely empty

Blame the white people that amalgamated this country
Don't be a parasite and a pessimist.

What you said won't still solve the kaduna crisis

Some local government would still be feeding some non viable ones within the same state

So the people is not really solved

most likely, a state like Kaduna will be divided into South and North...

Washington DC was developed that way...dont try regionalism.....nigeria is not ready for that....

travel around nigeria and see for yourself....regionalism cant work....regions deal with problems alone....??...thats dangerous thinkin....

with a effective goverment in all regions you could try it....but surely not with a country like nigeria were each is thinkin different....

give regionalism to south east and they will kick you in the balls.....
Re: Top Ten Things That Will Happen When Nigeria Is Restructured by Nobody: 4:11pm On Nov 20, 2018
Why don’t we divide into regions instead. Each region will control their resources, have their region police etc etc, instead of state police, state control resources etc. We also have a region governor instead of state governor, 6 region governors, not 36 state governors.

Even with restructuring the fg will still have a lot of oil by way of offshore fields like agbami and co. Only onshore oil will belong to the states
