No!!!!!

1) states like bayelsa that receive over 800% more grant than most populous kano have NOTHING to of development, why? The leaders are stealing the money
2)enormous corruption and looting
3)excessive tribalism and nepotism
4)uneven development across the country
5)poor leadership in each state
6)long period of time before states get their acts together
7)most states have NOTHING to depend on
8. )no federal grant means states like jigawa, nasarawa, kwara etc cannot afford to pay their civil servants
9)it takes decades to build an economy which means all the states must go back to the 19th century
10) there will be war and chaos
11) with the current living hardship no state can bear economic building
12) states controlling their resources means enormous theft, all the thieves in each state will have access to state treasury and they'll surely empty

Blame the white people that amalgamated this country
that's why their governor's need to think out of the box to create jobs and pay salaries , because the current system encourages lazy and dft governors

But what are the disadvantages of restructuring

The disadvantages are enormous...

Restructuring is doable...but it will take decades before we start to benefit....

Some states like Lagos, kano, kaduna, kebbi, rivers, akwa ibom , anambra, ogun, oyo, ondo, plateau, will develop faster...

Washington DC was developed that way...dont try regionalism.....nigeria is not ready for that....

travel around nigeria and see for yourself....regionalism cant work....regions deal with problems alone....??...thats dangerous thinkin....

with a effective goverment in all regions you could try it....but surely not with a country like nigeria were each is thinkin different....

give regionalism to south east and they will kick you in the balls.....
I am for Federalism. let all states mind their business and hold their destiny in their hands.

And a state should be created out from Abuja, to be added to north central. 7k as a Nations capital is too huge and expensive to build and maintain, because its the region state that need the money mostly not the capital
Re: Top Ten Things That Will Happen When Nigeria Is Restructured by Nobody: 4:17pm On Nov 20, 2018
You folks are not seeing the other side of restructuring.. I had no idea about it abinitio buh from your advantages/benefits up there i was able to deduce some other effects which would be bad..

Like imagine if a state can control it's forces, it'd be totally bad for oppositions, looting, many states will suffer, over population will surely affect some states as many people which their states would end up with nothing will end up migrating to others with something, there'd be over tribalism, there will surely be too many crisis which will arise from insults and all. States with nothing, how do you expect them to pay civil servants? Alot of bad side effects i can bring from your point there op buh lemme stop here.

These south south states you because of them want this restructuring are their own enemy not the federal govt. They are always treated well as the power house of the country that they are. Bayelsa, Delta, Rivers, Akwa Ibom always earn more than any other states in Nigeria monthly. Corruption is too much in these places which can even be easily seen in their citizens. They embezzle these funds, Ekiti and co gets little buh they are managing their resources.

From your points up there i don't see Restructuring as the answer my brother. And by the way, in Osun state, individuals control gold minning without govt interfrence but just supervision. Agriculture in Nigeria too is only supervised by govt buh they don't interfere. I don't know much about this oil of a thing buh i think it's private companies (Like Shell, Mobil and all) that control this thing?

1. No More Federal Allocation: The normal trend of states waiting to receive allocation/ "oil money" from the federal treasury will become a thing of the past.

If that happens, MOST STATES, except Imo,Abia, Bayelsa,Rivers,Akwa Ibom, CrossRiver, Delta and Ondo....WOULD GO BROKE OVERNIGHT.

2. States Will Control Their Resources: The various states in Nigeria, will be in full control of their resources. Take for instance, Enugu; the coal producing state will be in full control of how coal is mined, transported and exported without the interference of the federal government. The federal government will play it's role by ensuring the coal mining follows due procedure.

A) Apart from oil and cocoa, what else are we producing IN COMMERCIAL QUANTITIY?
B)Agricultue ? With less than 10 % of farms being large scale.? You think this is the 1960's when the UK was there to buy allour crops...think again!

3. Less Power in Abuja: Currently, Nigeria runs a very a expensive government because of the centralized power in Abuja. If Nigeria is restructured, power no longer rests solely in Abuja, but is shared equally among states. This implies that states can have their own separate laws guiding them.
grin grin grin grin

There is a good reason why Ironsi gave us unitary government...and it was because of the first republic stuff.
Plus....the small power states have...how many of them use it?
Plus...when GEJ is blamed for not providing potable water in Otuoeke when there is a whole LGA chariman or Buhari is blamed for no good hotels in Daura when there is a whole LG chairman and state governor....
Abuja will become powerful again because....NIGERIANS!

4. State Policing Will be Made Possible: Imagine a Nigeria with a police force bearing the name "KAPD" standing as Kano State Police Department. The various states in Nigeria will be able to be in full control of their military; with Abuja overseeing them all.

With which money? When you have rendered almost all the states broke? Plus...it costs more than ten states combined budget to set up an effective police force. Also, na broke state wey go build police academy, forensic labs, buy police car, buy ammo....on a shoestring budget. Do you want your state police force to look like glorifed maiguard?

Shey you know that in America where state police dey...they pay HEAVY taxes for the purpose. And knowing how Nigerians are towards anything called raised taxes?

And we never start about the tribalisim, and the regionalism sef. It was because the police and the army were regionalised to some extent that the pogroms of 1966 were easy to carry out!

5. Government Workers will be more serious: Restructuring this country, is sure to make civil servants serious in carrying out their responsibilities as there would be competition among states to have the best output.

Can a leopard change its spots? No be the same people that were leading you before restructuing....na the same person wey go come lead you after.

6. Unemployment Reduction: Restructuring Nigeria will reduce the rate of unemployment; because the 36 states with mineral resources will begin to explore and harness their resources leading to a new era of utilization of these human and mineral resources.

Bros....jobs are created in today'sworld via innovation drivien manufacturing. Not via sell raw materials, chop the revenue. We are not in the 1960's.
Plus we know the kind jobs you Nigerians want....na office job. With air condtioner.

7. Increase in Healthy Competition: Nigerian states without good healthcare, schools and public infrastructure will begin to work hard to provide such, so that they can be seen as good among their counterparts. For instance, if a state is not doing well in providing quality education; and sees people leaving the state for other states that state can decide to work hard to improve the education infrastructure to see that it competes with states with the best education.

Healthy competiton menene? Ok....when most of the states can not be revenue viable under the current system....

8. Less dependence on Oil: Due to the fact, that states now control their resources, crude oil will no longer be the main source of revenue for the country; leading to the increase in diversity in revenue generation. Some states could go into manufacturing, some into real large scale Textile making, some into full time agriculture

As they are doing now?

Plus.....ALL STATES....including the oil ones...should go into manufacturing. Fullstop.

Textile? China has made textiles so unprofitable....what with its worker ant factories..

9. General Development: The country will generally develop. Each state will be responsible for the improving a key sector of the economy leading to massive development.

Nigeria will develop when each and every state wakes up and starts taking steps to be manufacturers. And when we get rid of corruption, and greed.

10. Nigerian crude oil could lose value: With the dwindling price of oil, and the growing concern about carbon poisoning caused by crude oil, the world is moving toward a green environment. Hence, revenue generated by oil in the south south of Nigeria will make little or no sense in the international markets in the nearest future. By 2020, many countries in Europe will begin the use of electric vehicles.

All the morereason why relying on selling raw materials won't help us.

With our religious and ethnocentric dispositions, powerful states controlling their resources and state police will become xenophobic towards others. You can bet your horse on this.

Imagine the governors of kaduna, Taraba, Plateau, and Benue having so much power to make laws and enforce these laws.

Imagine Lagos, with its sentiments against Igbos, having the power to make and amend sequestration laws, segregation laws, property ownership laws, and worst of all...indigeneship laws.

as some one said above it will take like 10 years for state like Taraba to develop their tourism industry or state like Ebonyi to develop their salt industry ie 10 years of bearly affording to paid salary talk less of infrastructure during this 10 years crime and poverty rate will increase thus massive migration out of the state ( brain drain) thus they will not have people to develop their state

But are we going to blame them forever. Is it not time we woke up as a people. I agree that Restructuring won't be all sweet in the short term but believe you me it is the best solution for this country in the long term. Nothing good comes easy. In the immediate aftermath of restructuring, the regions controlling the oil resources will have more money at hand and will have to grapple with things such as high corruption levels (corruption and the oil and gas industry go hand in hand, check every country worldwide), however it is the regions that invest in Human Capital; World class learning institutions, infrastructure, healthcare and so on, those are th regions that will reap the rewards in the not too distant future. If the oil controlling regions do this, great but if they let themselves be deceived by the myopia that comes with oil then it will be the same story.

Overall restructuring is a good thing and should be encouraged by the common man on the streets from Maiduguri to Calabar. The only people afraid of restructuring are the ill informed few and people who are benefiting from the rotten status quo.
